I don't see any reason for Algol not to return.
Cassie and Sophie are both the chosen of the god Hephaestus. So they certainly have that mystical link. Anyone in contact with a SE shard would qualify for that too I'd assume.

Um, there's plenty of ways to bring her back. Time travel, back from the dead, was "missing" instead of deceased. It's not hard. Also, it's pretty obvious who needs to go (*cough* Patroklos *cough*) so it's not a difficult decision.

I don't get why people wanna get rid of Cassandra. She's as different from Sophitia as Patroklos is. She's just not as annoying as he is.
I'd like to see Sophitia and Cassandra return. Pat & Pyrrha can rot for all i care.
Also, i can't believe some of you are still discussing whether or not Elysium, Omega Pyrrha, and A Pat are returning lol. The story was never a reason to cut or include a character. If it was, they wouldn't come up with stupid reasons to include some of the characters, like Ivy in SCV.

I am suspecting that the game will have a much smaller roster the more I hear about this "Style" rumor - the mechanic they were trying to introduce that wasn't working that caused the delay. In this case, you should expect every character then to fill in for two characters, sort of like a dark and light style they can swap between.
The simplest example for this would be Siegfried being able to play as Siegfried or Nightmare between rounds or even in mid combat. How the mechanic was supposed to work is up in the air, but I think we are going to see a more in depth version of the MK X system.
I would not be surprised of some weird new character taking the place of Mitsurugi and Yoshimitsu as one while others like Ivy and voldo return but with an alternate weird new style. If I am on to something, I would also expect alpha and Omega variations to return but under one character. If this is true, I'd expect patrok and pyrrah to return with more.refined styles, and setsuka, Sophie, and cassie gone still.

I don't think MKX had a smaller roster because each character had three styles. Also, LOL for seriously think Mitsu and Yoshi are getting replaced while veterans are gone still. Daishi is gone, have you heard?

Tales of Soul Mode (SCIII) is best story mode. Unfortunately we will never see this mode again in new SC games.
Agree with you. Instead of new characters they made boring clones even worse than original characters.
Instead of multiple movesets developers could make 3 on 3 tag battles where you can select 3 different characters (for example Zasalamel, Sophitia and Cassandra) and can switch between them. It is better than boring 3 rounds 1 on 1 battles in SC5

I was actually thinking the same thing but working differently:

* Pyrrah turning into her Omega form for more violent attacks
* Siegfried using the Soul Calibur remnants power within him for more powerful attacks
* Raphael turning into vampire mode
* Tira switching personnality as in previous episodes
* Natsu unleashing her Arahabaki power
* Nightmare unleashing the full power of Soul Edge
and so on.....
if you read the constant complaints about the SCV roster and the leaks that state switching styles and V-Triggers like mechanism, it actually makes a lot of sense. If those leaks happen to be false, then I'll have to say this is one the most clever trolls I've seen.

MK X flaunted the smaller initial roster (pre dlc) with new characters. Milleena adopted Jade's moves as an alternative. "Tri Borg" in place of the three robots. I think we are going to see a similar approach here, but on a duality. Soul Calibur had a lot of spin off / clone characters that eventually evolved into new movesets in future iterations.
All I am saying is, if you can logically smash two.characters together, anticipate it. I saw someone say Viola with rapier or orb, but I would expect her to use the orb or have a phantom, filling in for zwei instead, swapping between the orb or an ethereal.

MKX had 29 characters, MK9 had 28. So that argument doesn't even hold weight. It would be absolutely mind-bogglingly stupid to replace even more characters after the backlash SCV got for doing that. The leaker specifically said the new characters are truly new, and they've made retcons presumably to allow the old replaced characters back. I mean seriously, replace Mitsu and Yoshi? Keep out Setsuka, Cass, and Sophie? What the absolute fuck? You want this series to die?

I think you are missing the bigger picture. SCV had a lot of characters removed that I expect to actually return - Talim and Zasalamel will return for example along with Kilik, Kilik will return with a classic staff movesets along with an alternate style absorbing the unique features of xiba/seung Mina. I anticipate xiangua to return as well. The one character I would suspect would get replaced/merged would be mitsurugi and yoshimitsu, possibly Yoshi absorbs mitsus moveset.
Look below, if the characters on the left represent the one in, but could mutate partially or.fully to the + movesets, not much to complain about. I'm on cell phone right now so editing this is a bit hard.

I'd expect most of the cut characters to return, Hoshino knows full well that they're more popular than the replacements. You can't seriously think that Hoshino is going to keep out veterans and cut even more of them when it's a known fact he prefers the old over the new. I seriously can't believe you think he's going to cut Mitsu and Yoshi for a replacement that would already be widely reviled.

You seem to be focusing on that one example really hard to the point where you are missing the rest. Maybe Yoshi adopts Mitsus movesets, maybe Mitsu adopts Yoshi, or both of them adopt another katana character movesets each. The point is - I think we are going to see the return of a few favorites with the MK X multi style.

Yeah, no. It's a known fact that Hoshino prefers the old over the new, and we'll likely see as many old characters as they can fit. Also, having Mitsu and Yoshi adopt each other's styles makes absolutely no sense. They uses katanas but that's all they have in common. I can't imagine either of them using their moves. It would be a square peg in a round hole. Making a new character to replace both would be even worse.
