Yeah that weapon switch seemed to be a great idea, i can see how it would work for some characters, but hard to imagine how it's gonna work other. Make sens that they end up opting for a mechanics similar to V-Trigger, which i wonder how they'll name that mechanic btw, like maybe: "Soul Unleash"?

Dont even think it was a good idea. Its just over the top, you dont need style switch in a 3d game with 80-150 moves per character. If every character can do it, ivy and the new guy arent special anymore.
If you want to make good fighting games MK isnt exactly the best rolemodel Kappa

I just wonder if that really is Nightmare. If he is, I'd be impressed. He looks so different yet can still be recognized at a glance. The idea they'd change him that much makes me wonder what they're planning.

Thoughts: SC2 is still the most fun to watch game, while SC4 is definitely the most boring.

Wonder since when exactly SC6 started being work in progress, i really hope they took notes on every aspects from all past Soul Calibur games to make SC6 as the best possible Soul Calibur Game.

I just hope this weapon/style switch mechanic doesn't end up becoming similar to the fighter variations in MKX. After all, that ended up becoming a mess in that game.

I have another question for @Vergeben. We all know Nightmare is going to be in the game because he's the icon of the franchise, but if the Passion Republic artworks are for real, is his style going to switch? Here's what the artwork depicts him as:

As you can see, he's not using the one-handed zweihander we all know him for. Instead, he has a weapon on his wrist with spikes, and I think that he would be able to retract and extend the four spikes in combat. I'll admit this is a pretty badass concept, but it's kind of surprising if he's that different, seeing as how he's the mascot of the franchise I would've thought they'd keep him roughly the same. It's especially notable in that his appearance takes on a lovecraftian horror aesthetic, a far cry from what one would normally expect.

Of course, this could go back to the weapon switching thing that some characters have, because beta art (before this one was finalized) does portray him with the zweihander.

While it's easy to imagine Natsu getting changed to allow Taki to return with her old style, this seems like a completely new beast altogether. Another theory I have is that the Nu Nightmare above isn't actually Nightmare, but rather another manifestation of Soul Edge and is a separate character. Whatever it is, I'm curious.

Got any thoughts on this?

I hope to god this isn't the case, these concepts are awful, the only one that looks decent is the white haired one

You don't need big things like this to make a character perform well.
A few frames here or there is enough to make a strong combo, a great punish, a good mix-up, etc.

Most fighting game characters are 1 frame away from an infinite somewhere in their move list.
I agree, but my point was more towards supporting the idea of character development that's reflected in her moveset. So by giving Talim some wind properties, that could help her out in more ways than one since, for a character obsessed with and based heavily around wind, she barely ever has anything that references it ability-wise, which I feel is the better time than ever to finally "evolve" her to that extent.

At the moment, I have no information regarding what exactly they are doing with Nightmare other than he's in the game, doing Nightmare things.

This is just my personal opinion, but I don't think it was a bad idea, but Netherrealm isn't exactly the most competent developer. So, when you have certain concepts that have a lot of potential and can be great, having a far less talented developer realizing them can sour people on the idea.
In short, I would have far more faith in someone like Project Soul doing it to much better success because they have more talent.
Also, their animations don't look like clowns juggling stale loaves of bread when they hit people.

Its not about that. I konw namco is good at making fighting games. But people already disliked meter and jg in sc5. They shouldnt try to make the game more and more complex but try to stick what makes it great. And ruining characters by giving them several movesets for no reason isnt exactly a smart thought. I mean i dont know how that whole style switch stuff was meant to work out but it didnt sound great.

It doesn't really matter because they largely abandoned the idea anyway.

I guess. But im still curious to see the new guy. As i said im not 100% against it , I think it works great if its just one character.
Id like to hear more about the idea in general after the game is officially announced, if you have any information regarding that.

Aeon has already started the trend of incorporating guest character's moves into his own moveset with Kratos and I think even some of Spawn's. His lore has something about him gaining all the memories and powers of people he's killed and eaten. It makes a lot of sense to give him those moves, its becoming his trademark... well hopefully at least.
Tbh i wouldnt mind if they recycled it into cervs moveset. Maybe he's finally fun to play then Kappa

As long as we dont get crossbow rolling around aeon :D that would be kinda weird.

I feel like i may like that new character /kilik rival. His weapon seems exciting, and he's Chinese (he seems to be, but this aspect doesn't matter much), if he is designed in more like Old school Hong Kong movies characters rather than some anime weebo designed character, of course no character can reach the level of the goddess Ivy, but he may really be too sick.

I can imagine this character having long hair, something similar to Tekken Feng's hairstyle, he would be really too sick.

I really hope that when we get an extended reveal trailer it is hype af. Like the lost swords one where. Sophie’s reveal comes after as black screen “you cannot win with strengh alone”
