Soul Calibur 6 Discussion

The amount of salt over a Facebook poll lol people are acting like every single SC fan voted in it and it's the worldwide consensus for every demographic.

But I guess it's been so long that I'd forgotten that 8wayrun runs on salt for the most part.
Salt is all we've had for the past four years or so.

I don't blame him for the story/character design decisions. I direct the hate at him specifically FOR the gameplay and balance decisions that he personally admitted to making. (i.e. removing entire stances, making backstep unsafe) and yes I'm glad he's gone. It's the only reason I have any hope that SC6 might be good.

yeah. and that My Hero Academia game is also skipping Xbox.

but see. I can understand these more "niche" anime titles skipping Xbox.

but Soul Calibur?

Tekken is more popular than Soulcalibur, so how Tekken 7 performed on Xbox would be a good indicator. I'm sure it'll sell more on Switch.

I remember when Future Press sent me a Mitsurugi combo video to upload and people flipped out because one stance was removed. One. Majority of whom probably never used Mitsurugi in their life.

The gameplay changes aren't my favorite, but they're not for me. The gameplay changes were to attract new players to the game which they succeeded on. The game wouldn't have grown just sticking to doing the same old things. The problem is that they rushed the game and never expanded upon them.

As for SC6, we have no idea, but if the leaks are true about the game being in development hell, then that's a huge concern.

I'm going to just come out and say this since I've heard it from two sources now and have been given the clearance to say so, and that's that Talim is slated to be in the game.

Based on research and surveys, Talim is very popular with people that only play single player content and did not purchase or have actually even played many Soul Calibur games since II, and some rarely play fighting games. But they really love the character, and a character that has a strong following can't be overlooked, and was another one of the main factors of criticism towards SCV's roster.
Her return in Soul Calibur VI is due to a combination of these factors, most notably and obviously having topped that character survey back in 2015.
When you want to win back the casuals and get them interested in your game, even if it's something like a character, logic would normally dictate that you listen to it. And they did.

In my own experience, I have noticed that most Talim fans are kind of very specific and have their different sectors, but the commonality is her being very popular with casual fans. I've personally met a great deal of people who like and played Soul Calibur throughout the years that, for various reasons, be they male or female, just really liked Talim. So bringing her back is a great move all around, whether people like her or not, or question her inclusion due to past viability.

However, it's what they decide to do with her that's the most curious to me....

Speaking solely about Soul Calibur V, I recall that there was quite a lot of fan curiosity regarding Talim aging 17 years for that back then (being 31 years old on there, had she been on it) but that obviously didn't happen as she wasn't on the game at all, which was still to the day an odd move due to her age being only 16 prior to SCV, so that would not have been an "issue." I will come out and say I don't know why they didn't use her on V.
Maybe they were afraid to age her? I'm not sure.
Maybe they had thought aging her would somehow kill her appeal?
Which isn't the case at all because people were very engaged and curious trying to imagine what she'd look like as an adult and a full blown wind priestess, which her design could have reflected.
I am personally intrigued how they will go with her. If they will feel they have to retain her "image" as being the "kid" of the series still, or just make her a short adult.

I'll tell you right now that I was not told anything in regards to her age yet, and how they will be handling that, hence why I'm discussing this, and likely to create a discussion because of that for people analyze and talk about until I, or we find out.
But I personally hope they take the shot and don't fall back on some kind of excuse like "wind magic" or some kind of time travely Astral Chaos stuff or whatever to explain why she looks the same as she did on IV, and is still only 16 years old.
I feel like that would be regressive and stunted, as the character needs forward evolution at this point to make a more triumphant return because it would be even more emotionally impactful for her fans to see her return and have changed, to some meaningful extent. One that doesn't lose fans, but makes more.
Like I have said, I don't know if they will be doing that yet, but I would approve of that more than keeping her as she was.
So I will take the personal stance of saying that it would be far more interesting to see her mature into her role as a wind priestess.... and be better tier wise to placate her fans and help create new ones for the character, and additionally have some moveset tweaks to express the character development and age.

I will furthermore state that I would be genuinely surprised if they bring her back after winning that character poll, and don't decide to get her some serious spotlight in the happenings of the story to sustain her fans by making her quite important in the game's story to some extent.

I was waiting for the opportunity to post this.

Can we please stop the "the character is better/more loved/has the biggest boobs"? It's getting annoying to see every other message that A is better than B... Please focus on the rumors and your hopes WITHOUT rubbing your preferences in everyone's face trying to convince people that you are right...

If Sophitia, Talim and Xianghua are back, that means that probably other characters are back too. Give it some time before the reveal, I'm sure that everyone will be satisfied.

There won't be anything during TGA, so nothing before the 9th.
I find a TGA announcement to be more likely than a PSX announcement at this point.

wow. did Tekken 7 really sell that badly on Xbox?

If this site that I've found is to be believed, or is actually accurate, then they sold 1 million so far on PS4 and only 210,000 on Xbox.

And, according to this site, there around around '371,807 ± 18,404' people on Steam who have bought Tekken 7, which means that even PC outsold Xbox.
Using Tekken as an example doesn't seem very fair, considering that historically SC has done well on the Xbox platforms they were released on (Hell, SCIV on X360 actually outsold the PS3 version). Tekken built its following on the PS brand, so that's why they sell so well.

I was replying to Soul Knight as he asked 'did Tekken really did sell that badly on the Xbox?' which of course means I have to talk about Tekken...

But if you want the comparison, Tekken 7 has already outsold Soulcalibur V in its first 6 months of being available, as Soulcalibur V sold 1.35 million units (updated as of October this year) and if the above numbers are to be believed then Tekken 7 has sold around 1.6 million.

I know VGChartz is lolworthy, but if the margin between the two consoles really is anywhere near that wide, then I don't think skipping X1 is all that unrealistic.

It's gonna be so nice to get actual news lol like just imagine a trailer with Sophitia vs Cassandra, or Ivy vs Taki since they had that rivalry in the SC2 opening. Also, I'm so excited to see how beautiful everything will look, from the models to the stages.

One thing I hope they keep are some of the new moves from Lost Swords. Sophie had that lunging mid kick 44K that tech crouched that was pretty cool.

Definitely good to see Talim back. It'll make so many people happy. My personal wish is for her to age a bit. Maybe not 17 years ( even tho i honestly wouldn't mind it), but a bit. She was never a favorite of mine, but i did miss her presence and i do think she has so much potential with her unique fighting style.
