Soul Calibur 6 Discussion

But, in my opinion, the three Souls games that debuted in arcades eventually got console ports featuring polished gameplay and lots of single-player content.
SoulCalibur III Arcade Edition was released in 2006 after console release in 2005. Updated SoulCalibur III Arcade Edition has no console release. Capcom constantly updated SF with new content but Namco loves abandon their SC games SC3AE (no release), SC4 (no fixes), SC5 (no return of veteran characters even as dlc), SCLS (was just failure). I hate dlc and super arcade last round shit but it makes game improved and complete. If Namco could update SC4 instead of SC5 release then SC4 would be best SC in series. They decided abandon SC4 so now we have two incomplete, unfinished trash games SC4 and SC5.

wel

Soulcalibur is only a casual game because all the games after 2 have been shitty. The thing is there is a huge base of people who want to get into this game competitively, but that will only happen if they start making good Soulcalibur games again. the thing is even 5 had a big player base at the start but then everyone dropped it because the game shit on everything that made Soulcalibur unique. If this game ends up being good i could see this game having a pretty decent tournament scene. remember when SC3 came out the Soulcalibur series was much bigger then Tekken.

Soulcalibur was always a casual game. Soulcalibur 1 on the Dreamcast was a massive success that sold they system for a lot of people, which is kinda funny considering how lukewarm the arcade game was. And SoulBlade on PS1 before that was a success. You also have to understand that Soulcalibur II is also a lightning-in-a-bottle where the insane expectations the game had were not only matched, but exceeded. The fact that a game as experimental as that still holds up with a bug a broken as 2G and guard-cancelling certain moves on whiff is nothing short of a miracle.

While I still think Soulcalibur II has the best gameplay in the entire series, I also think it's bad do dismiss all the other games as being shit.

I'm not saying that a new tournament scene is impossible, but the simple fact of the matter is that designing a fighting game as a balanced tournament game first is suicide if you don't have the brand name of Street Fighter (and even then, SFV scorned so many people that it put a huge dent in the install base and put a black mark on Capcom's name). It's short-term profit vs. long-term gain, and I can't expect Namco to go the latter route with Soulcalibur because Namco already has Tekken for that, and they don't want Scoulcalibur to compete with Tekken (which is retarded because they were never competing in the first place).

I have no real worth in saying this, but I personally believe it's because Soulcalibur isn't as big as a priority for Namco than Tekken. Having a game be released on console only means that you can just release the game and get your profits immediately as opposed to the constant upkeep of arcade machines and yearly revisions. You can just put the game out, maybe patch out some of the more egregious broken shit and you're pretty much done. Given what I've read about Project Soul repeatedly getting disbanded to work on Tekken games, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the reason Soulcalibur games are console exclusive is to funnel more money into Tekken's expensive arcade cycle.

I believe the other reason can be found in this very thread. Like it or not, Soulcalibur is mainly a casual fighting series game. SC3 was so unbalanced that it (combined with a very late, very limited release of SC3:AE during the final death throes of the US arcade market) killed the US tournament scene. SCIV had the Doom Combo, SCV has Viola, and SCII HD is a shitty port job. It also doesn't help that the games to address these problems (SC3:AE, SC:DB, and LS) were not updated version of the main games, but weird (and suspiciously inexpensive) side-projects. There are more people here that would rather have the game come out the gate sooner than better, and I can't blame them, but money talks. And the money cares more about the shiny extras than the game itself.

look the fact is there are a lot more people who would love to see this series go back to playing like it did in the second game then there are that want this game to stay how it is.

People that haven't played a single game in the series since before and after SC2 don't matter. They don't buy anything and they poison the community needlessly.

Why? that's ridiculous, if they didn't like the games that shouldn't invalidate there opinion. I mean if you are going to say things like that then you can goodbuy to this series. this game is this series' last shot, if this dosent sell we are not getting another soulcalibur game.
Your hazy notions of what's good and bad doesn't actually drive the market.

so your telling me that anyone who did not like the direction the series went after 2 did not play any of the games after 2?
I haven't really seen them do anything other than complain from the sidelines for 15 years straight. Oh and talk about how great SC2 tournaments would be again and then not show up offline.

so you want them to get heavily involved in games they don't like? rather then move on and try not to hold there breath that the series will return to form in the next game. just because you don't like certain games in the series dose not mean you hate the series.
If you only like one game out of 5 games, then you do in fact hate the series.

It 100% does. Why would their opinion matter if they haven't played other games? I could shit Guilty Gear but it wouldn't matter cuz I never played it.

For those who are wishing SCVI to be in arcades. Let me tell you this... It's not because BAMCO thinks little of arcades (Tekken 7 was released in the arcades first). It's the fact that most Japanese gamers are not interested in the SC series. Thus, it doesn't make any sense (business wise) for the company to release it in arcades to begin with.
When I asked a Japanese friend of mine the reason why most Japanese are not interested in SC while lots of players calls Tekken KUSOGE (Shitty Game) and yet play it, he answered, SC doesn't have flashy combos like how Tekken does.
Japanes gamers value hard execution over methodical tactics. Beside that, SC sells way better in Europe and the US than in Japan.

SC 6 might not just be a reboot of SC1, it might be a reboot of the whole series. By that I mean, if 6 does well we might get SC7 which could be a reboot/retelling of SC2 and so on. I wouldn't mind that too much, I'd love for 3 to get a second chance. They could really fix the issues that plagued it the first time round with the tech they have available now. Just a thought

um two games. i don't think anybody sais that Soulcalibur 1 sucks. most people say that 3 on do. and the fact that there hasnt been a viable tournament scene for any of the games after 2 shows that.
The fact you claim there was no tournament scene after 2 just demonstrates you haven't been paying attention and just see what you want to see.

Also please learn how to use the edit button rather than triple posting.

look im just worried that if this game dose not end up fixing the problems of 5 at least, then this game is not going to sell and we are never going to get another solclaibur game. this game is the solcalibur series's last shot, if this game dose not do well then the series is dead. so this game needs to be amazing, or its just going to be the next DOA. which mind you did have a small but dedicated community and still died.

And from what I am hearing it sounds like they are trying to make this game fell like the old ones. from rebooting the story, making the game have the speed of SC2 and putting a bigger emphasis on high damage pokes over long combos.

Can't speak for 4, but Soul Calibur 5's tournament scene was strong for all 5 years. The last tournament was literally last weekend lol

DOA is not dead lol like at all. The series had a ludicrous amount of support from developers its entire life, and the tournament scene, even more so than SC5, thrived for all 5 years. With the amount of DLC that got milked out of it there's no way there won't be a DO6.

And also idk what you mean when you say fix what's wrong with 5, besides for the lack of legacy characters, which they're fixing. Sorry it wasn't Soul Calibur 2 part II to cater to players from over a decade ago who are now inactive.

Given the only problem you've stated is... Uh... Oh yeah "Viola"

I think they have that covered.

Probably there's gonna be nothing :(

When I was saying about snow on the stage, that reacts to everything I had something like this in mind:

I think too much about the game because I had a dream this night in which I saw Kilik and Cervantes fight. My brain is suffering from no new info and no new characters reveal.

I went back to SCV tonight just for shits and giggles and the more I think about Viola as a character the more I begin to believe that shes not Amy.

Their in game dialogue just doesnt explain why Ralph doesnt recognize Amy if she was truly Viola in the future. I dont know if anyone remembers Viola's gameplay reveal 7 years ago, but she was announced with Astaroth, which isnt a coincidence if you consider Viola may have something to do with Fygul Cestemus.

What if Amy was created in the image of Viola?
