Soulcalibur VI DLC Discussion Thread

This "yell" is really throwin me for a loop. Cant place it. I cant even think of a guest who would fit that but it has to be that or Bangoo.

I was gonna say Kratos but can they really put him on Xbox?

Hoooooo!!

More women, don’t want a sausage fest. And Kayane put them on the spot about more female representation. And Hilde is supposed to be that other female iconic embodiment of the series because she doesn’t have to be naked to be famous.
“RAISE THE FLAG!” HILDE FOR YELL

Definitely want Hilde to be Yell-- maybe they didn't choose Wolf because they might want to use that for Zwei later?

But still, they could've used something more obvious... like "Queen" or "Red" (hair)

There's only one DLC Mina cares about though...

Also I frankly haven't seen much complaining about 2B at all, on the contrary, 95% of comments about her inclusion I see on-line are positive.

I have seen several comments since she has been released from people on this site, stating they dislike fighting 2B online. Either because they dont like her moveset, or just feel she shouldnt be in this game. The volume of complaints i would say is comparable with complaints about higher tiered characters.

My brother made a comment about this and he doesn’t even play the game. People will just complain and latch onto the hate

Well Long's name means dragon so that would have been a more appropriate codename right? Everyone else literally translates their name into the codeword.

It does break the pattern, but Li Long is nevertheless the best fit by far, if not exactly as much a one-for-one match. He is the only character who uses his yells as his intro dialogue, and he's quite vocal in that respect in a fight as well. It would also mean that each of the characters selected for the final six were exactly those six needed to complete the main cast from those exact four games which have contributed characters so far (SE, SCI, SCII, SCIII). Attempts to foist Hilde into that role (because she supposedly yells here dialogue; which of course she doesn't to any extent beyond that of the average character in this franchise) are just wishful thinking/confirmation bias/pipe dreams on the part of fans who aren't willing the look at the pattern established here, the clear indications from the development team about their priorities, or the rest of the body of evidence. Neither Hilde nor Algol are making it into this cut--I feel pretty confident about that. I hope we may yet see a season 3 where they do, but they are almost certainly not a part of The Six. Li long is the only option that fits the contextual information we do have and at least has a strong possible association with the "Yell" codename.

You do raise an interesting question, though; I don't now why they didn't go with 'DRAGON'. Perhaps because of the possibility of confusion with Aeon as he appears in SCV? In any event, I'll say it again, though I know the next three pages will be filled with yet more speculation about Hilde, Algol, Viola, ZWEI, and even Dampierre, from those who either don't read more than a page back into the thread or just want to keep on convincing themselves that there are reasons their favourite choice will prevail against all evidence: Reptile=Lizardman, Star=Yun-Seong, Yellow=Hwang, Stone=Rock, Snow=Setsuka, and Yell=Li Long. Classic roster, here we come!

Yuuuup. And its not exactly something new to this franchise. Same exact sorts of comments, in some cases almost word for word, have been said about at least one guest character in every game that has included them. People are already adjusting though, as they always do; complaints in this area were constant the first two weeks (as is predicable when people are getting their asses handed to them as a consequence of not being able to get a read on a style that is foreign to their experience), but they have quieted mostly to a murmur now. She's also been nerfed a bit (a little too hard, actually, imo) and that has helped.

Well let me start of the post proposing that Hilde is “Yell.” Because even though your Roster argument is valid. The amount of Hilde Easter eggs are well enough to still give reasonable doubt. And that better codebnames could have been used for both. Yet she and ZWEI have a code name that could conflict. She and Li Long only relationship to this Yell code name is through their voice. So @Rusted Blade I have one thing to say,Now, two souls are fiercely entangled.”

Haha, "Determination, obsession, hope--the fiery emotions illuminate the two swords!"

Well, I think you're correct that they have forecast a possible role for Hilde, but I would offer in response that any of the following is adequate explanation for that: 1) just their general effort to cover all aspects of the previously established lore that they are presently retconning 2) an effort to keep the door open for her for inclusion as DLC, before she ultimately did not make the cut, 3) plans to include her in a third season pass if sales sustain the serialized model for this entry as long as would be necessary, 4) efforts at laying the groundwork for an appearance in the next game, or 5) a combination of any of the above.

But you're right, of course--there's enough cause for doubt here. I just think that the most likely/occam's razor explanations are being passed over almost entirely in favour of wish fulfillment. I can't be 100% certain that the Final Six described above are the ones we will ultimately see, but I am quite confident that they are the most likely outcomes, once one strips away what various players might want. Personally, I can understand and sympathize with the subjective argument that Hilde would be nice for the unique play style she brings to table. But I believe for anyone who wishes to look beyond their idiosynratic expectations about what would be the "best" picks, the devs have dropped more than enough hints to tell us who is actually coming.

Everyone is probably going to believe that their own version is going to be done, but no one has really factored in that we probably should see it from bamcos perspective. As much as I'd like to see Hilde and as much as I'm convinced, there's still a possibility that it will not be. Yell might be a new character for all we know. It could look like Li Long, but I feel like he's the least likely RN. All of the characters could be new for all we know. We can't exactly just lock in Li Long OR Hilde, Same with Star. That's kinda why i feel like we'll probs get Algol, cause I doubt we're gonna be getting BOTH yun and Hwang. I feel like people's main response is that there is too much overlap.

Also not to be picking anything out, but you are literally contradicting yourself. When you say " the next three pages will be filled with yet more speculation about Hilde, Algol, Viola, ZWEI, and even Dampierre, from those who either don't read more than a page back into the thread or just want to keep on convincing themselves that there are reasons their favourite choice will prevail against all evidence: Reptile=Lizardman, Star=Yun-Seong, Yellow=Hwang, Stone=Rock, Snow=Setsuka, and Yell=Li Long."

You are literally doing the exact same thing you said other people are doing? Li Long hasn't even APPEARED since SCIII AFAIK, but you are still convincing yourself that it is Li-Long. But the main point is: There is no evidence. Other than the codename Yell, we don't have anything to go off of. We can't say there is evidence when there isn't. As much as I'd like to see Li Long, I doubt he's the first candidate for yell , but if Li Long is in I will, uh, do... something. Eh, I'll think of something funny. Yeah.

@Rusted Blade as I would agree that lore is being drawn from the entirety of the lore of the game, the retcons have put things like malfested in with a different spin to it. So I’ll bring up Siegfried, Tira and Talim whose storylines really don’t pick up until Soul Calibur Three and both of their stories end right at the start of that. So SC6 excludes Soul Blade, and stops before Soul Calibur 3. In any aspect this is a Soul Calibur 1/2 game. Li Long has little mentions, has little connections to play out, and little to add. I did say earlier that the characters could be bundled together in order to make space for CaS equipment dlc and a guest character dlc. But all other choices (Except Dampierre) have a large body of work to include into the story. The game will be going into its second year. And going into its third the next gen consoles will be releasing. Following other suits there will be a repackaged.
So there is something of relevant nature to this, Hilde can be paired with Amy because they would be at odds because of Raphael aka Graf. And also Setsuka, two women on the road of vengeance. Where i read Li Long presumptuously falls with Setsuka because of their issues with Mitsurugi.

Edit: Can't be bundled with Amy. So she could only be paired with Setsuka.

Oh i've read the comments, most of them anyway. I just dont agree with a lot of it. You're exaggerating things to support your bias as well. Just because this is a retelling, does not at all mean they are locked into digging up every classic SC character. There hasnt been any significant evidence other than vague statements during interviews that can be taken any number of ways concerning PS's priorities. One major issue with your predicted DLC lineup is that with the exception of Setsuka it is a lineup of clones and/or duplicated weapons... without a guest. Hell it even dulicates two of the same weapon on the same season pass. I cant imagine the amount of eyerolls in reaction to Hwang and Yun reveals. That isnt going to sell. You're kidding yourself if you think a sizable amount of people will care about the original roster coming back.
