Soulcalibur VI DLC Discussion Thread

I wonder if Okubo kind of hinted something there though aha

« Marketing colleagues » may refer not only to Project Soul employees but maybe one other development team ?

Two speculations :

- next character will be another guest ( but I will prefer Cassandra to be honest)

- the next DLC May be featured also in another game ( like Super Smash Bros Ultimate as DLC ) to make Sc more popular .

Do this last speculation seems to be plausible to you or not ?

The race feature was alltogether stupid from the beginning. If we assume equipment options and choices suffered as a result of this, it was definitely a step down. I'm not sure people would have selected some barely noticable elf ears, glowing eyes, or horns over the removed equipment we didnt get if given a choice. Adding a couple unbreakable accessory slots should have taken care of most of these race options anyway.

When it comes to race they could just have stick to LM and Skeleton because those are the most distinguished ones. But then again, considering that they don't have any undergarment to use it could just be attached to some special undergarment.
Also why on earth we can't have female orcs? Cause they wouldn't be itty pretty? Bah...

Nope. This is clearly a response to all of the fans asking about the datamined DLC characters on Twitter. Okubo knows they've been leaked, and is responding to the fans by telling them despite this information now being public knowledge, he cannot discuss the characters ahead of when the marketing team has planned to reveal them.

Some hardened, strong female character would be pretty nice.

Yes, I have seen her on reddit, and creating her as a CaS is nice, and that one's pretty well done (I did make her in SoulCalibur V, but I hadn't made an attempt in SoulCalibur VI yet), but she's still just not quite the same without her voice. Cool-Headed Captain almost works, but isn't quite right.

Dream DLC that would never happen, but Kamikirimusi was always my favorite of the five bonus characters from SoulCalibur IV.

I kinda like this poster to be honest. But I like those girls be more diverse. Some hardened, strong female character would be pretty nice.

I find that ad sophomoric. Aesthetically, Ivy is a plenty hardened, plenty strong female character with a dominating (pun unavoidable) fighting style. That's exactly why it's frustrating that whenever it's time to market the new game, they feel the need to double down on this kind of juvenille objectification of the female body, with Ivy the preferred fixation. I would say its an insult to the intelligence, maturity, and sense of self respect of every male fan of the franchise...except for the fact that they seem awfully convinced that it still works. So either I give the average male fan too much credit, or the mindset of Namco's marketing team is still locked in the early 90s. Of course, frankly, some of this can probably be attributed to the company being based in Japan, where curving your video game's marketing toward otaku sensibilities is still arguably sound business practice. In any event, of all of the legacy outfits I'd like to see return for DLC, I genuinely would have to go with Ivy's SCII 2P/Napoleonic wars inspired outfit. If only they had embraced maturing her design more consistently in that direction.

Personally, the missing element for me is her weapon: that massive, studded jō/cudgel was really the element that pulled that visual design together. I agree that she was the stand out of those bonus character skins, in any event.

I think he meant "hardened and strong" design-wise. Kami looks like an average teenager with some demony bits.
I assumed he was talking about a female character that looks more on the muscular battle-ready side and less like a pinup model. Something that this series doesn't really dabble in much.

Oh dang it, that SCII outfit for Ivy was really lit and most importantly - quite different which a secondary costume should aim for imo. Tho with CaS we have the ability to recreate it more or less. At least untill she gets a GB in the face, then she will again run in her thongs
I personally really liked Kami a lot but not exactly for the reasons I stated before. She has really wild feel towards her and that I enjoy more than I should. A good example of a character I had in mind would be someone like Brienne from GoT. Not that I have anything against cute and pretty girls mind you. I just think that a character like that would be a nice addition. Or a barbarian chick - I am always in for barbarian chicks.
Unfortunately the side effect of CaS is that the diversity of body builds decreases and that actually does hurt a bit

I hope we'll see guest designer DLC. That's kind of a cool thing fighting games do, and I think DOA5 had guest designs in their mix (not quite sure though because god knows there's like fifty billion DLC costumes in that game). The reason why it's cool is mainly because we get to see someone else's interpretation of the universe, giving a general style that's unique while fitting in. What do you think?

In principle, I think it's a fine idea, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. If they were going to do something along these lines again, they would have have rolled it into the budget for the base game. Furthermore, there is unlikely to be more than two season passes, and we have strong indications as to who all of those characters will be.

Coincidentally, I was just thinking about how much I would love to see Hidari create a design for SC. He does a lot of fantasy-esque characters (examples: Toukiden, Atelier, and Fire Emblem), so I think his style would fit the series like a glove.

But yeah, guest-designed costumes would be neat.
