SCV voice preferences per character

Ryoka

[09] Warrior
Some are great, some really aren't. Really makes me wish that there was a language option at the character select screen as you're picking a costume.

α Patroklos - no preference, they're both fine to me
Aeon - growl
Algol - English
Astaroth - English
Cervantes - no preference
Dampierre - English
Edge Master - no preference
Elysium - good lord Japanese. Getting RO'd as Elysium is an insult to everybody. Just KO her normally if English.
Ezio - no preference
Hilde - Japanese
Ivy - no preference, both have their ups and downs
Kilik - Japanese. Some of his English lines are either super corny or come out in a out of context tone.
Leixia - no preference because I'd rather she be silent
Maxi - no preference
Mitsurugi - no preference
Natsu - no preference
Nightmare - no preference
Patroklos - no preference, as they both do a good job of making Patroklos a very difficult character to stomach listening to
Pyrrha - Japanese, if only because the heavily apologetic attacker doesn't seem to translate very well in English
Pyrrha Ω - English. The voice warping sounds a bit odd to me in Japanese but works better in English imo.
Raphael - English. The VA captures his personality pretty well without sounding too deep.
Siegfried - English. I think in Japanese he should have grown out of the sounding lik Link phase by now.
Tira - English because Jennifer Hale.
Viola - Japanese. English voiceover doesn't even come close to sounding threatening.
Voldo - HISSSSSSHK
Xiba - Japanese because I only find it slightly less annoying sounding than his English.
Yoshimitsu - Japanese. Sounds too much like a jester in English.
Z.W.E.I. - no preference

All english. I like to understand what they say. However, every now and then I run into a rare exception that I must put in japanese like Spencer in umvc.

All English. The only SC I would ever consider switching to Japanese now is SC2. Ever since SC3 the dub has been good/tolerable. Plus there's the fact that they changed 3/4 of the Japanese cast in IV, which was unbelievably stupid on their part, because everybody sounded perfect in 3 in Japanese.

English for everyone. If someone says Pattycakes' seiyuu is as annoying as Yuri Lowenthal though, I'll just assume it's true and prefer not to find out.

Oh, I wouldn't mind Kilik sounding less like a bored robot though.

It depends on the character.

Natsu-I actually like both on her. They both capture her personality well.
Xiba-Japanese all the way. I may like Adam from the Power Rangers but not in such a boyish tone, especially with an extreme sense of hunger.
Ivy-Japanese is amazing, but it doesn't fit her like her English voice does. English, however, struggles at trying to build some "sophistication" and "British" with the character.
Tira-The best character voiced in English. It's spot on with the character. Japanese is a little too high in pitch.
Z.W.E.I.-Not sure
Viola-Not sure either. I can hardly hear her voice.
Leixia-Her Japanese voiceover is adorable. She needs to tone it down a notch with the English voiceover though, but I can understand that she is supposed to be a young character.
Kilik-Don't care which. I'm too distracted by Kilik making me angry when fighting against him.
Mitsurugi-Japanese fits his personality more.
Yoshimitsu-Same as Mitsurugi.
Pyrrha Ω-Both versions sound pretty threatening and a little creepy.
Pyrrha-During gameplay, her English voiceover is annoying, but it is great outside of gameplay. Japanese is okay.
Patroklos/Alpha Patroklos-I don't hear much of his voice in Japanese. English just rings to my ears like a giant gong.
Voldo......

Hilde-Both are pretty interesting.

I'm with those that think they should go like Tekken and have them speak whatever language their home country does.

i don't really care either way in this particular game. i don't fully like either but i listen to english because the japanese VAs are trying waaaaay too hard where it comes off as cheesy and annoying for most of the cast. especially the CaS voices. but I like upbeat girl and that leader one in english the most.

The only character I've bothered listening to in both is Algol and I liked his English much better. Japanese didn't sound bad but the English one captures his deity like status much better IMO.

And holy crap Tira is voiced by Jennifer Hale? I never realized that. Crazy

No Japanese voice actor has *ANYTHING* on Jamieson MOTHERFUCKING Price. That's just how it is :D

Tira is one of those times where Hale put some real work into her role. A lot of times she doesn't and in those cases she always sounds basically the same. Like FemShep.

Algol and Tira do have two of the best English voices, certainly.

I keep it in Jap. because the character I main, Pyrrha, sounds better. Also other characters.
Yoshimitsu- I like him better as serious tone, the english is just not serious.
Leixia-I think her english to me just sounds older then she is...Maybe just me,
Tira- I actually Tira better as jap. Her english is fine, but yes
Algol-Both are awesome. But the english takes it when he says" The Mighty Algol has no equal!" or something like that
ZWEI- I dont like it -.-
and I don't wanna go through the whole cast.

Semi-agreed. Price does better than Joji Nakata in any role that he dubs over Nakata. But Nakata is also good in any role that is not Wesker (D.C. Douglas aka SC4 Male Voice 5 is the ONLY one fit to voice Wesker).

I think Japanese always sounds cooler. However, I do like it when they say "Not bad, for a pig!" especially when I'm a character dressed as a horse.

In addition to the english track, give everyone the language they would have spoken back then, with subtitles, of course. It would make it weird if you have two characters talking to each other in different languages, but having an international cast speaking perfect English is just as improbable.

Breakdown of cast by language of origin:
German - Hilde, Siegfried, Tira (?), ZWEI (?)
Hungarian/Magyar - Nightmare/Graf Dumas
Japanese - Mitsurugi, Yoshimitsu, Natsu
English - Ivy
Central Okinawan - Maxi
Italian Mumbled Hissing - Voldo
Persian - Astaroth
French - Raphael
Spanish - Cervantes, Ivy (?)
Greek - Patroklos, Pyrrha, Elysium
Greek Growling - Aeon
Mandarin - Kilik, Leixia, Xiba
Italian - Ezio

??? - Dampierre, Viola, Algol, Edge Master

Also, it was probably the case that a lot of people would've picked up on foreign languages in their region. European characters would've been able to speak other European languages, the Chinese characters might've been able to switch back-and-forth between different dialects, and Maxi, being a pirate, might've been proficient in many East and Southeast Asian languages, especially Japanese.

One case that fascinates me, though, is Viola, assuming she really is Amy with amnesia. As Viola, would she have still felt the most comfortable speaking French or would that have switched over to another language, possibly German, due to being a Schwarzwind member?

I agree with Tira. I honestly love hearing her talk. They fit her "lol I'm happy. Jk, here's my blade in your face." multiple personalitied personality.

I also love when she talks to Pyrrah and goes "Well well, Pyrrah. Not bad!" Witht the creepy look on her face and the smile and how she has a consoling tone in her voice when talking to Pyrrah, but still very creepy and malevolent sound to it.

Tira's just badass overall. I've been kicking myself for having a hard time learning her.
