A Quick Study of All Characters

Well, I'm basically trying to start shit up and get people talking about what characters excel in certain areas. I've noticed in certain threads that some people would mention stuff like "Mitsu has the best mixup in the game" or "Asta's oki is insane", and some of that information would be conflicting. So I wanted to get people in here to argue it all out so we could get a better idea. I mean, yeah, there's always going to be a matter of opinion, but at least this way we can pool our ideas together.
 
That's also why I think we should have a "top three," since it's often debatable enough with just that, let alone the theoretical best. As long as this doesn't devolve into mass bitching, then it'll probably be fine.
 
for best RO i think its hilde, asta, NM in that order

hilde because of utterly massive range RO set up from just a whiff
asta because he has moves which ring out from every angle and options from every range.
NM because his normal combos naturally carry you across the screen and RO, plus he can pick you off the ground for RO too.
 
you gotta put amy as worst throw game, her range is probably the worst of the cast. and the apprentice's A+B throw break puts his defensive potential through the roof.
 
I think Voldo, Yun and Mina are the best at damaging the soul gauge. Vader and Zas have trouble when people get in their faces (In other words, they're bad at close range).
 
I'm surprised Amy hasn't been brought up for punishment yet. Her 6BB has decent range, is i11 IIRC and is pretty dern safe imho.
 
But it's really steppable and it does junk damage.

it's not like other characters where their whole game is based off punishment.

Apprentice actually has the shortest throw range. He's the only character that has to actively run up to other certain characters to throw them, or their hitbox will naturally push him out of throw range.
 
Okay, to sum up the areas of contention:

-Setsuka as a contender for Best Punishment and Worst Mixup
-Apprentice as a contender for Best Defense and Worst Throw Game (that last one seems to be true from what you guys are saying regarding his throw range
-Amy as a contender for Best Punishment
-Yun and Mina as contenders for Best Soul Gauge Game

-Also, I nominate Hilde for Worst Long Range. Yes, she has the range, but she's extremely unsafe whenever she tries to use it. Characters better at long-range, such as Asta or Mi-Na, can punish her for a whiff, and even characters whose range isn't that great can get in Hilde's ass for daring to 6B+K or 33B--Yun, Talim, and Amy for example.

-Another new nomination: Yoshimitsu for Best Close Range. A Yoshimitsu in your face is a scary thing. Even if he has the tools to fight at mid range, Yoshi has a hell of a lot more options when he's right upon his opponent And, if all else fails, iMCF.

The only thing defensive tool Apprenice has is his A+B throw break (which is great). He is super easy to get in on and has no auto-GI:s.
I say this spot belogs to Algol and (because he has shoryken, bouble shield and awesome back dash) and Kilik (Asura, wsB, great tools to keep you out).
Perhaps top three would be Algol, Kilik ....... Apprentice

-Amy as a contender for Best Punishment
The only thing Amy has that stands out is her super fast 6BB. Taki's AA is faster and leads to similar pressure.
My top 3 would be
Soph, Cass, Sets
With Taki as honourable mention for being able to punish moves that are safe versus all other characters.

Worst Defense
Asta and Rock both has huge hitboxes, making it hard to step things. They also has no useful auto-GIs and horrible back dash.They have no defensive tools at all!

Yoda should not take this spot, half you moves wiff on him, most combos wont work and he cannot be thrown. If anything, he should be considered one of the best defences.

I disagree. What you're describing is Hilde's mid-range game. At long range, her moves are extremely linear and easily punished by a number of characters.
