Where do I begin, when we’ve finally reached the end?
I spent a long time trying to find the right words, and even now I don’t think I have.
So I’ll tell you all a story.
One day, I was browsing around 8WR, being little old me, when I received a PM from someone named “Vilarcane”.
“I see you a lot in people’s CaS threads giving good reviews. Maybe you should come look at mine sometime?” he said.
“Hmm… I suppose I could”; I thought to myself, though I was getting bored at seeing samey CaS and offering the same old bits of advice – A lot of people PM’d me asking for reviews,
Now don’t get me wrong – I didn’t think I was particularly good at CaS myself, and most of my advice seemed obvious enough, but I was honest to the point of brutality, and I didn’t believe in holding back, so maybe that’s what drew this ‘Vilarcane’ character to me?
Regardless, against my feelings at the time, I gave the link a click.
Since then my life has expanded in ways I never could predicted. Who could imagine that a self-proclaimed wordsmith who works in a tiny shop in a sleepy village would be trading quips with an important man in a noteworthy car sales company, in France? (Kept vague out of respect).
I’ve gotten to know someone from a completely different walk of life, and even been, to an extent, included in the lives of his sons – And in turn he’s become a part of my life - An important one.
After all, I consider my friends the MOST important thing.
I won’t (much to your dismay I’m sure Vil) talk about any single CaS of his, because that’s not why I commented on his thread – His talent isn’t why I stuck around. Prominent as it was, to me that came second to his passion. Because whilst he may not be the best CaS Artist technically, he’s certainly the most passionate.
We’ve spent many hours discussing his creations, perfecting them, checking them in battle and even doing performance fights (the idea being to use flashy moves rather than focus on winning) in order to capture their true potential in a less-static format. All because Vil felt that having them stood still, staring at the screen was just not good enough for his characters. And that’s what they are – Characters.
So this passion has carried him through all this time, and it’s never dwindled. Sure there are times he slowed down, and he’s even almost stopped a few times before, but that’s because he genuinely cares about his characters – and not seeing that same passion shared by others must’ve been truly disheartening.
And yet we’re lucky that he stayed, because if not we wouldn’t have seen this wondrous slideshows, or these genius anthros (though some of them genuinely gave me nightmares), and that hooker alien we all love so much.
So Vilarcane. For inviting me along for the ride, I thank you. For teaching me so much about so many things, I thank you. For those hours of playing mock-battles, and all the feedback from Lil Vil, I thank you. For never reading the rules in a competition, I thank you. For sharing your passion with us, the community, I thank you.
Because whilst CaS is just a game-mode for most people, for some it’s a way of expressing themselves. For some it’s a tool akin to Photoshop, or even a pencil and paper. It’s a medium with which to create art. I know a lot of people will think that might be a bit much, but you only need to look at some of the bigger-named galleries to see that it really is, in its own right, an art-form.
Vil. I know you wanted my comment to be the last one in your thread, which is a great honour, but I really hope it isn’t. Even now I hope new users, and old, will find this thread, see your characters, and really feel the passion, devotion and ambition that went into them. And I hope they express their gratitude to you, for sharing something you value so highly with us.
I tried finding the right words, and even now I don’t think I can, so all I can really say, is thank you.

hehe ! i do, but i love H, like Humour, Heart, Hilarious CAS of yours, and so on...and so forth ;o)
And my CAS technique is at his best sir, name a thing i can't do, i even thought knew all the advanced techniques in and out, then i started doing sticker composed paintings on carefully selected clothing...that must be the only thing i slightly disagreed with you in the text i just read for the third time today !
Oh and sorry for the nightmares, i honestly thought you were, well, joking...

Don't get me wrong, when I said you weren't technically the best, I just meant technical skill, not your technique. You're fantastic, of course, but not the best. Your thumbnails, imagination and sticker work are another, higher matter entirely sir.
Take Gatsu's Pac-Bot for example - Would you have thought to make that? It's hard to say really. Your Kick-Ass jetpack, and Hitman's dynamite are all great technical achievements, I just feel they're on a different level to Pac-Bot, or halt of Matty's work, etc. I don't mean this as an insult my friend, far from =D

don't worry, never felt like that, far from it, ranking in art is just...well, try comparing Picasso and Dali and tell me who is best and why...
You might feel Dali is on a different level, at least i do, but objectively, it isn't.
Do i need to tell you what i really think of Pac-Bot, as compared to Matty's latest creations, or mine for that matter ?
Let us say it is cool, because it is, period, but i wouldn't make United Colors of Bennetton with it...
On a different level, for sure, on the scale of having a good laugh, just like my Mars Attack - Ack- Ack was meant for...;o)
If i had to pick 2 CAS of Gatsu's work that really blew my mind (again personal taste), it would be The Elephant God and Wrath, absolutely fantastic CAS.

Special bonus CAS and pics for Le Bello...
I remember how you love Leixia, how proficient you are with her (dare i say she gets on my nerves sometimes ;o), and yet i think you really captured the essence of her in your CAS (the red, the black and the cow-boy CAS).
So i figured, why not ditch my Matty special's Mars attack and replace it with something i hope you'll like.
It is not overly original, yet there is a lot of effort in it, for you exclusively my friend (i mean absolutely not for HolyCarp (just kidding of course, love you HolyTrout ;o)...i actually tried hard to make Leixia as cute as your amazing Red :
I present, Leixia, The Squaw (Husband is Red Wolf from Rdmunhoz, and she has a wolf sticker on the eye patch to prove it and she has a very cool recolored hunter suit underwear for when...you know, in the Teepee late at night)...
Chinese Immigrant, she came to the US with her family to work on the railroad, she was abducted by Indians while hunting Shoulder Kitties for Xiba (he is always so hungry), she was abducted and sullied by the Cheyenne savages, who then made a slave spouse out of her (aka a Squaw) :
On a side note, this CAS is a nice complement to Calamity Jane and Yankee General ;o)

... we still have more customs made for SCIV than SCV... although I imagine there are a few games that are going to overtake this passion from time to time....Christmas is coming...

...I didn't want to ruin the positive vibe going in Matty's Welcome back thread ..... but I am getting a little more than anxious about his recovery. Have you heard anything new? Let me know if you do..... I keep reading up on meningitus .... and well... I worry... the internet is not kind to the paranoid :)
