Aesthetics in player choice

Looks are somewhat of a factor for me... Like I never use characters that are strange looking (example >> Voldo or ABA from GG), nor do I use characters that are a big target. I've always just went with the average character with nothing too special about them. So looks aren't a big deal to me as long as they don't affect me being hit more often (such as size) or the character just looks wierd.
 
I can assure you that 80% of Nightmare users here plays Nightmare because of his manliness, not because he does crazy wall damage, okiezemes, punishers...etc. Everything Nightmare does is pure eye candy, from shrugging off attacks using Soul Wave, Launching people 10 feet above, to catching airbourne opponents, his moves are all brutal and beautiful.
 
Looks matter a lot to me when picking a character. I got lucky in SC2 with X being my favourite. It's a bit harder now that Tira is, though. ^_^ I like Setsuka too and will probably pick her up the next chance I have heaps of time to practise JFs.
 
I personally like some characters costumes that I made work out to my liking alot. I like the fact that I play a character well against random online folks, but against friends I usually have fun with it and mix it up a bit. I made Raph into a pimp vampire, Yoshimitsu into like every ninja possible lolz, Cervy into a One Piece version, Cassy is a spartan lolz, and I started playing Nightmare more because I made his SC2 costume xD. I like the aspect of having fun with the customization, but what pisses me off is the paladin's torso piece. Those two damn flaps always go through character faces...-_-"...anyways I really think playing with fun customs boosts my morale xD
 
Awesome to see Im not the only one! of course there are minor variations but on the whole but...... it looks like looks matter.

Someone brought up RPGs, lol so true. I pick the team I like the best and just deal with their short comings. Sometimes it makes the game harder but thats part of the fun.

I really liked Cass 2p in SC3 to bad. I did try to kind of recreate it.

cracks me up when i do bison slide w/ my bison cervy.

i don't pick up new characters (for online) until i have a costume for them that makes me lol everytime i use it.
 
Here's where I pretend to have substance and say I pick characters based on movelist, speed, strength, etc. But honestly, if I main a character I'm gonna have to look at them an awful lot. For sequels, character loyalty plays a big role in who I main.

I've been maining Sophie since SC1 and every successive SC she looks worse and worse. Her 2p costume in SC1 was to die for, what with that sexy leg skirt thing going. SC2 she looked horsefaced. SC3 she looked younger than Cassandra but the costumes were better. Her SC4 outfits are terrible between that sheer slutty white thing and the uninspired ugly Halo-esque hunter armor BS that is her 2p outfit.

Where was I going with this? Oh yeah, look matters but for me I sure as hell amn't maining Sophie right now because of it. Stupid loyalty.
 
I usually pick the characters with dark skin because they are always middle/bottom tier and nobody wants to touch them.
 
Eh, nah. I play Bison in SF. And Balrog isnt bottom tier.

Well, SC4's Sophie's face is hot as hell. It's the classic white girl's face.
And just put on the Goddess Cuirass, Goddess Gautlets, Goddess Greaves, Goddess skirt (?) and Goddess Helm and she's hot as hell. Add the Roman Mantle as well!!!!!! Man, I'm drooling.

At least she looks way hotter than Hilde.
