Can someone suggest a new main for me?

Hey everyone, so I have an issue with scv...

On sc3 and 4 I played a mean seigfreid, but in scv he feels so slow I can never seem to win matches online. I was also decent with Algol, but his projectiles got nerfed, so I'm not great with him anymore. I got scv when it came out, but it doesn't have as much single player content as 4 did (that challenge tower was a great time sink) so I'm left with compeditive multiplayer. I just don't know who to use. Any ideas on how I can discover this answer?
 
Hello and welcome to 8wr! I moved your thread to the beginner section so people can help you better!

Why dont you take a look around each characters forum and see what each one can do? You said you thought siegfried was slowed down but if you take some time to learn his more advanced stuff he still has quite a bit of speed.

If you like Sieg you might find some interest in characters like Nightmare or maybe even Cervantes!

Welcome to 8wayrun! If you are new to soulcalibur, I would suggest a beginner character like patroklos and mitsurugi. Once you learn the game a bit more, you should be able to tell which character suits your playstyle. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask!

watch tournaments and get hype on how some players do cool shit with some characters. if you want to use some cheap OP character with some free damage use viola

Viola is strong haha.

Dont let comments like that though deter you from playing who you want to play. If you like Viola play Viola. In my opinion one should never pick a character for how good or bad it is but for how they like the character. that's just me though.
 
Recently, Signia posted a wonderful summary of the characters in the game. It covers the main strengths and weaknesses of everyone very well, should be helpful in picking a character. If you can't find one whose strengths compliment your desired playstyle enough, you'll need to pick the one closest to it and try to work around their weaknesses.

And since it's been mentioned, pay no mind to any statements about anything being cheap or OP. This is just waht scrubs say about things they can't handle. If anyone ever sends you hatemail online from playing SCV it's not because something genuinely is broken or whatever: it's because they're a true scrub and expect everyone to hand them free wins instead of earning a victory. They're best off ignored, they can't be reasoned with and they can go very crazy if given more attention.

viola is one of those characters that simply just ruin the game for me and mitsu is slightly OP

inbalance is inbalance, i think the mayority here at 8wayrun can agree that viola is OP and cheap. im not here to start one of those online arguments but i thought id just point it out, eat a dick
 
Oh, and since it's being kept in this thread...A scrub isn't someone who's just bad at something. That's the broader, loosened definition. A scrub is someone who is both bad and instead of trying to improve, decides to blame it on everything and everyone besides themselves. They have reached the apex of their skill because they cannot accept their failings as their own fault and delude themselves until they feel better about it instead of fixing the problem.

In Soulcalibur V, we have a wonderfully balanced game that though obviously not devoid of flaws, there is no unbeatable character, attack, tactic...Everything has something that can beat it, or at the very least dozens upon dozens of workarounds. Scrubs disagree, and to them anything they can't beat is broken...Which given their refusal to adapt will eventually encompass everything.
 
That would be because it cannot be blocked on reaction.

Which is why you have to guess, though if you do block it, pick your combo, lol.
 
Hi, Dielan. I was sort of in the same boat as you, because I felt like I had to stop completely maining Siegfried when I got SCV. I devoted to training with aPat after Edge Master in Legendary Souls mode caused my final time to be about an hour. (In hindsight, picking such a difficult character at the same time I crawled out of "scrubdom" wasn't a really good idea, but hey, nine months later I got the Legendary Souls mode at ten minutes, so I guess it was worth it, hah.)

In addition to looking at the link that Wandrian posted (which, by the way, is very interesting and I wish it was a little more comprehensive), I would also suggest to go into training mode and just simply take a test run at any character you may be interested in. Picking a main is important, and it's good to pick one that agrees with your playstyle, but it doesn't hurt to experiment with it first hand. It's naturally better to just get a feel of every character and just see what sticks and what doesn't.
 
Good luck on finding a character that "fits"! As you learn about the game and it's community you'll see that this culture combines internet anonymity and competitive gaming. So, you'll eventually come across all the good and bad that comes with it. Mostly good though. Even the flare ups are usually entertaining.

Scroll down to the fourth post on my wall. I guess lines are starting to be drawn. Unfortunately, since those lines haven't been drawn in the last year (almost) that I've been a member, I'm not exactly sure where those lines are. I know my current one and orange flew by with no comment. But a few mods questioned some of my others. Usually they'd just PM me and say "You sure that's alright?". My response would basically be "I think so" and that would be that. :)

BTW - Did the OP ever settle on a main?
 
Welcome to 8WayRun here you will sure, find a lot of people willing to help you out, about a main...like people said take a look around, soon you will find some character that you will be fond about, hmm just because no one ever tell anyone to do this why don't you give Voldo a shot XD
