Do not go see the SF movie

...
I guess successful movies like Sin City, 300, and soon to be Watchmen still haven't convinced studio execs that sticking to a quality source material will give you a good product that people will enjoy without having to dumb it down.
...

Well said.

Sure it can.

I havent seen it yet, but anybody who has gone or isnt going to see this movie for the sole purpose of seeing how bad it is should be shot.

It should have been blatently obvious that this movie was going to blow, but I cant believe some people are trying to go in there like it wont be one of "The worst things you've ever seen."

I guarentee I've seen fatal car wrecks that are better than what this movie is going to be.
If you had to see one, this or Dragonball?

i have hopes that dragon ball will actually be decent ... i know it wont be ... but a man can dream cant he ..

the old street fighter movie was awsome ... when i was a lot younger it was anyways, i havent seen it in years and my eyeballs might bleed if i rewatch it, so im never going to watch it again and remember its awsomeness.

shame this one looks like it sucks hard. i havent seen it yet ... i dont know if i will now.. but it couldnt suck harder than DOA right?

It seems so bad that now I want to see it....the fact that it tried to take itself seriously is even better...

I am a firm believer in voting with what you pay for though, so I will probably pay for and watch Watchmen, then movie hop to Street Fighter....

The next one is gonna be "Bad Gandhi: The tale of Dhalsim" And after that "The Gremlin from the Kremlin: The Zangief STory" and then they'll do a 10 minute short called "Beastiality?: The Blanka saga" (porno). Not to mention the gay porno "Why I like my face and other random Vega facts"

So open up your calendars for 6/66 cuz this shit is coming to a theater near you when hell freezes over (one can hope..)
hahahahaha... lmfao... nice one... but u missed a major one... "obama's secret: the balrog story" how a hot headed black boxer made so much $$ then suddenly got charged with murder in the ring and quickly slimmed down using lypo suction... also paid some guy to have his face changed to look like obama... and then killed the real obama... and kidnapped his wife & kids... now he is president and lives happily ever after ...or 5 years...

Err... those are comics. It's far easier to stick to comic source material than videogame material.

And let's not forget that the studio obviously wanted to distance themselves from the Van Damme version.

why is it easier to stick to comics rather than video games? because comics have a stuck portrait of it while games are all free roaming decision making on our part?

Usually the game/ movie films suck because they don't have a good story. The SF story would be hard to create because it is A) A 2D fighter so the action scenes would be pretty hard to shoot B) Doesn't necessarily have a story C) If you tried to process Anime or some other games into real life, everything would seem out of place and just wouldn't work that well.

I think it's the fact that on video games, you are the people who control it. It's pretty much an invisible wall for filming, especially when fans of that particular series want the film to take the game pixel on pixel.

I'm pretty sure there is more on this that I can't quite put my finger on.

Well no the SF story is just bad man needs strong people to be badder, strong people resent and beat him up. ALl you need is good action coreography and acting the complete opposite of NASH and you've got C movie at least.

Fighting games and RPGs shouldn't be hard to mimic in film, the harder ones may be open ended platformers/action games, but overall they can all easily show up on film. We just fail at it.

I at least have hope that the Tekken movie will be better because Tekken does have somewhat of a decent story.

Game movies don't work out for a number of reasons:

In a way, games are already movies. Games like Metal Gear Solid already have an incredibly intricate plot shown in cutscenes. With a comic, you can just translate the still pages directly into a movie and it would be awesome, but with games, why would anyone pay to see a movie based on cutscenes, which are essentially already movies, since you already know exactly what's coming? They would have to come up with a completely different plot, and in most cases, it ends up sucking, because it's not Metal Gear Solid.

The plots in games are too bizarre for movies. How would you translate Mario Bros. into a movie? Have Danny Devito in a red plumber suit jump on CGI mushrooms and search castles and giant tubes for a princess and only find midgets in mushroom suits? That wouldn't work, and straying from the plot obviously didn't work either. Either way, the movie is screwed, so it just shouldn't be made, period.

People read comics for their storyline, but play games for the gameplay aspect. People watch movies for their storylines. So which one fits? While games can have interesting plotlines, that's not the reason we play them. Why would we go to a Soul Calibur movie if we couldn't actually play Soul Calibur? You mean I have to sit through the terrible SC4 endings again, but in a theater? Screw that.

Y-Disciple, not really, people play games for numbers or reasons, people read comics for many reasons, not just that one, gameplay in games are important, but to a lot, especially RPGers, the story is where it's at and want we want it for. So seeing played out in cinematic glory would be a nice thing (SHOULD be a nice thing lol).

Tekken won't be good it botched an anime already, SF at least has a couple good gems out there for us in anime land. although better yet Fatal Fury the Motion Picture is REALLY good .
