O____O dude... Seriously. Aren't we supposed to feel safe at school?

A 5.9 Magnitude Earthquake triggered in the state of Virginia. and could be felt far out to Canada. I was in Riverdale, Maryland at the time. You know doing my classwork in Chinese Class. All the sudden there's like this rumbling! And im thinking to myself. "Oh shit..." Turns out it was an EARTHQUAKE. My first one! I was freaked out! But I'm fine and thank god there were no injuries.
But for the people was were hurt in this situation i hope the best for them and that they will be okay and recover very soon.

Ch'yeah man Strange thing is there isnt even a fault in Virginia O_o" But i'ma get some homework finished. Hoo... School is hectic enough already.

yeah this was insane. But some people are comparing it to Haiti and Japan. It's nothing like that at all. We're lucky enough it wasn't severe! And then we have people talking about Dying and crap in Chinese class and im like "Be quiet. Dont say things like that..." Because its rude. Some people just dont know how ignorant they are.

HEY! >:( "If i get that far!?" I have a Senior Girlfriend! ( = 3=) I'm happy... neh...
Well, you're a better man than me. I didn't have a GF when I was your age for I was still in "searching myself for who I am" stage lol. Of course now I know what who I am, but the new problem is what's my purpose for society? This will be awhile. I hope I become successful before I'm 28....

thats really weird. I wonder what caused it. I live in california and have lived through countless earthquakes. To the point where I dont even get scared anymore. Ill have to check out what the media thinks caused it.

I just hope that Archie and Jughead are okay.

Also, an earthquake in Virginia? That's unusual. Do people there actually know what to do in the event of an earthquake? I remember some people I knew from out east talked about their first experience with an earthquake here in California. He was at work so he ran outside during the earthquake (idiot). She was at home so she jumped in the bathtub (idiot).

Am I an idiot for going under a table during an earthquake?

I'm in Maryland so I felt it too and wasn't too far away from it. It was pretty scary considering I didn't get any response from anyone in my house until after it was over. 'Cause of that I honestly thought I was going crazy momentarily. No real serious damage here tho'.

A friend of mine said that his wall mounted TVs almost came off and there's broken glass everywhere. Various other places in the area got structural damage, some jobs let their employees out early and such. Pretty crazy.

Unless it was made outta glass or folds up a table's fine. School kids get under their desks. Smart place to go. Thing is though a bathtub won't protect your head from falling debris and running outside kills more people than anything else in a quake, they get hit with shit falling off the roof like tiles or satellite dishes. In an earthquake your main objective is to get somewhere that'll protect your head and to a lesser extent can bear a load in the event of a ceiling collapse. The ideal spot is a door frame without a door. A door frame with a door is also fine, but some people get injured when the door swings in the quake either by the door slamming on their fingers or the door knob jabbing them. You weigh your options I guess.

Other than that, don't be anyplace you can fall, don't be near glass and don't be where things will hit you (like in front of a bookshelf).

Yeah something is going down underneath the oceans. Lots of weird Earthquakes around the world this year.

haha i'm in Va and was dead asleep from working the night shift i didn't even feel it. she said the whole house starting shaking and i slept right through that shit :D

As a foot note to my first story they both got mad at me because I told them what they did was stupid. They argued they were unhurt, I argued that wasn't the point. If the quake was worse, they could have been. Who comes to a place where they know there's a danger and doesn't at least read up on it first? If I moved out to the midwest you could bet I'd read up on what to do in the event of a tornado before I even left California. If the local five year olds are better prepared than you are, you have no grounds to defend yourself.

He worked at blizzard. They closed the offices for the day over a 3.1. He talked like it was the greatest disaster ever. What a joke. That won't even wake most Californians up. Funny thing about a quake though, barring some interference like a loud air conditioner, you can hear it coming before it hits. A big quake will usually sound with a long roll. I have no other way to put it. But they almost always start out small and build up a head of steam as they roll. A quake that jolts suddenly is pretty rare here at least so it's easy to know when you should start moving.

This is true considering this is exactly what happened at my place. I heard a loud rumbling sound first and then everything starting shaking a bit later.

And for the record, I did immediately move towards a door frame when the whole house started shaking. I suppose I'm not that stupid. Hahaha.
