Evo 2010

I'm going to Evo this year and would like to participate in a tournament that actually had a decent ruleset that doesn't include making rules for people that aren't going to show up.

If Cha^2 doesn't post in the next couple days, I'll start a placeholder tourney thread that he can edit when he gets the time. I think it's important that we get a thread started soon so everyone will know when the tourney is and it can get some hype.

We need to get this tourny thread open now. it's getting too close and it's gonna be a nightmare trying to do this last second or worse forming it at EVO. The rules are tournament standard, there should be no debate on this for obvious reasons. Someone please start this ASAP. (I'd do it, but lacking seniority I feel I would botch something in my inexperience, but will gladly do it if no one else wants to).

Also we need some hype on some FT10s!

heres the thing...

Saturday is gonna be hella tough to squeeze anything in, I'd also like to see Bang the Machine.

Sunday they take down most of the freebie stations to make room for seating to watch finals.

Friday seems like the most optimal day since it's just SSF4 pools all day, lots of down time and lots of players looking for shit to do.

I say Friday at like...9PM? I can probably secure us at least 2 TVs, we probably won't need more, if we do I will see what I can do.

The other factor is systems, who can bring at least 2 (fully unlocked calibur files) PS3s? I have pledged my system to the staff there, I dunno if it will be available.

I will check this thread when I come home today at 8pm ish, and create the tourney thread if we can at least get most people to agree this would be a good time to run shit.

Friday at 9pm sounds like as good a time as any to run the tourney. Too bad for people that end up in SSF4 evening pools, but there's going to be overlap with something no matter when you schedule it.

I'll bring a copy of SC4, but I'm not planning to bring a PS3.

I'll bring my ps3 and what not (i might need someone to bring an hdmi to hdmi, but i have component if it all fails). It's full unlock. I'm banking for saturday for 2 reasons:

  • I'll have a job very soon and it's looking like i'll be hired that very week making friday impossible if so.
  • People playing in SF4 tournament will more than likely have been cast out already from losses and can freely play or will still be in and be able to make a better priority decision.

How do we pull this off though? We need a sign up, entry fee, a way to disperse winnings, etc...

I'm not concerned about the behind the scenes money logistics, DancingFighterG won't be involved! I'll bring an HDMI cable and a PS2 to PS3 controller converter (I don't own a PS3, nor do I own the game, or anything else that would help with this).

Ivyfanboy, I'm gonna be real with you...Cuz I honestly don't know what you are expecting. The bracket will be a piece of paper (random seeded by some arbitrary process), the money is kept in my pocket and the winnings will be 70%,20%,10% to top 3. Complete transparency and yes, I've done this before.

Some people have software they run on laptops and the authority/reputation within the community to keep everyone organized. Originally Jaxel stated an attempt to host it so I didn't know what to expect. I wanted an RSVP just to get an idea of how many will attend. I was there when there were 250 so i don't know if i should expect 10 or 50 for a side event at EVO. Also seriously just go with standard tournament rules and have them debated there. It's gonna be less hassle and generally more well received. You will get contest pushing for no Hilde/Algol and you have a shot of not hearing anything if they're just taken out. As well I trust better numbers with the ban.

Cha^2 has done this enough that there's no reason not to trust him to handle the money and brackets. Paper brackets should be fine for a tourney of this size - I'd be stunned if there's more than 32 people.

Also... we need people who earlier went "I can't take initiative because of my lack of seniority" to stfu and listen to the people who've run MORE tournaments than the former has PARTICIPATED in.

Anyone's interested the stream is live now:

====== DOUBLE POST AUTO-MERGE ======
Hey There's a Kayane that plays Chun-Li right now, Daigo says "one of the best he knows". Not the same SC4 Kayane from France is she?

Kayane did too well in SF to do the SC4 side tournament. So yes that was her, and her chun-li looked amazing...but i dunno SF that well.

It was about 15-20 people and we had to rush the end do to time. Not sure if the brackets will be up. It was fun despite people constantly not being where they were supposed to be. Definitely enjoyed the low tier picking including someone using my Pink Rock. AkazukinChaCha did a good job despite all the issues and low turn out (tho that was expected). But yeah, game is so dead. I joked about bribing Diago to play in hopes the SF community would bandwagon on.

Pretty happy with how I played. Some obvious errors that cost me, but I feel Ive made a huge improvement from last year and thats all I wanted. GGs and hope to see more tomorrow when I set up for casuals. Imma go practice how to not get owned by voldo now....

Why the blanket statement? The game isn't dead because no one showed up for the EVO side tourney. There's going to be an amazing turn out at Idle's tourney for certain.

So wait a minute, SC4 is dead because a side tournament on a Friday night in Vegas got 15-20 people? If I am in Vegas on a Friday night, I'm either looking for pussy, gambling, getting my drink on, or hopefully all three.

Plus there weren't that many Calibur players going to EVO in the first place, so of course the turnout is going to be low. I would have definitely went to EVO if Calibur was there, but it had no chance when put to a vote on a 2D forum. Plus I am sure if there is a SC5, it will be at EVO and then quickly dropped for whatever else is newer.

But whatever, glad you guys got the side tournament ran.

As Malice said, why would Calibur players show up there if it isn't being hosted there? Calibur community has to do it's own thing, for the most part. If other people want us to be a part of their stuff, fine; if they want to be apart of ours, I think that'd be fine too.

Also, like Malice said, if Calibur was there, especially since my unit is on leave, I would've shown (could've also used it to visit some of my guys in Vegas. I'd rather just sit at home and listen to my commentators relate fighting games to SSF4.
