Gauging interest for an SC2 ONLINE tournament

Okay, as you may or may not know, a while back some of us were working on getting SB and SC1,2, and 3 working on various emulators. I got it working pretty darn good on my laptop, but I also have a sorta high end laptop. I put forth the idea of getting more people involved and possibly running online tournaments, but it just didn't take off, possibly because as some people said, their computers were just not powerful enough to run the emulation software at a playable level.

But now that Christmas is around the corner, I know some of you will be asking Santa Claus for new computers, (I'm thinking of getting a new one for my wife, which will just coincidentally also be a gaming powerhouse), so maybe this will make it possible to do this now and have some classic SC tournaments in January.

I post this now, so that in case you haven't decided what to ask for in your letters to the North Pole, an awesome computer might make it on to your list. ;) The specs of the computer I have now, (which ran SB flawlessly, even when we tested the online, and ran SC1 on Dreamcast flawlessly, but didn't try online, and ran SC2 fairly good, but started to lag a little on certain stages when certain things were in the background) was: 2.4 GHz I5 processor, 6G ram, the graphics card is an ATI mobility radeon HD 5470 with 512MB memory.

I'm really wanting to do this, Even if we don't have a full 8 people, I'll still run a bracket.

Is anyone interested? I can show you how to set it up and everything. And even how to use your favorite stick or controller with the computer. (I was playing the Gamecube SC2, Dreamcast SC1, and PS1 SB all with my PS3 hitbox).

This is a pretty good idea wombat. I would love to play a Raphael that wasn't trash when I get a better computer

Now to be the harsh and bitter realist. (As ever.)

Which version? AC? GC? Xbox? PS2?

I'd imagine that the Dolphin emulator would be the sturdiest...

Yeah, probably game cube, that way all the link fanboys will be encouraged to participate also.

I did have pcsx2 running slightly better than dolphin though, but I was running the PAL GC version.

ooo, I think I would like to try this :o what are the requirements for the comps? :o
Well the most important parts are the memory, the processor and the graphics card. I gave mine above, and it runs sb and SC1 perfectly. SC2 lags a little bit. I think I could use a slightly better graphics card. A lesser computer may run it just fine, but you may get a little lag.

If anyone is wondering what to look for in a computer, just look for one labeled as a "gaming" computer and you should be on the right track.

Since it's for fun, you might as well put in some silly/fun rules, because you know the online is gonna be SC4 level at best. Maybe some fun stage selection/char selection rules.

Best of luck with this!

That's a good idea, but I'm very unimaginative. Any suggestions?

Are you able to pick the stages with special attributes, like the sinking sand one, in versus mode?

SC2 matches will likely be SC4 online mode, but Soul Blade is really good. IDK about SC1, but it ran so good it looked like a video on fast forward when I didn't limit the framerate, so I have a good outlook on the online for that one.

Having a hell of a time getting SC2 to run faster than 35-45 fps. SB and SC1 run just like on the PS1 and DC though. :P who wants to give the online a shot with me?

*ahem* *cough* *heart attack* Where would I be able to find said emulators if I happened to be interested in finding such things, which I am not saying I am, but if I were to by chance. *Hurl's blood*

For which SC? We're using the latest dolphin emulator or PCSX2 for SC2, Nulldc for SC1,and epsxe for SB.

As for the roms, you can just put your old disk into the drive and play it. Of course, there are less legal ways to get the roms too which I can't share on the forum.

If you're interested in helping me test out the online, let me know and I'll help you set it up.

I put my gamecube disc in my floppy drive and now i can't get it out. Help please ?

On a more serious note, I'd like to see how it all works out as well.

Did you try poking the small hole near the drive with an paper clip?

Btw, Im pretty interested in this SC2 tournament since I can't play SC4/5 at the moment and I might participate if I have time during Christmas (SC2 Raph yeah!!!). I have a PCSX2 emulator. Hopefully it works for this online tournament. It tends to lag though. Might as well try the dolphin emulator.
