General SCV CAS Discussion: Your Tips & Tricks

you can use storage system like photobucklet, imageshack, etc... just upload them with those systems and copy-paste the link it give to you (some of those have more options, like preview and thumbnail); or you can upload them directly on the frum from your PC ^ ^

I have a friend named Gabe, actually. Real tall dude, plays ultimate frisbee. Cool guy.

I guess it may be a good tip to add:

-PS3 USERS: You can take screenshots of your creations while in creation mode. Just press the PS button, scroll over to photos, and there will be an option to "take screenshot." Then you can copy them to a flash drive**, edit them on your computer (the default screens are a large .png file), and upload them online at places such as photobucket, tinypic, imageshack, imgur, etc.

**(Be sure to tell it to "rename and save" and check the "apply to all" option when it tells you "there are multiple files with the same name")

Sorry, bro. I only knew girl Gabes till today.
No worries.

That’s pretty funny as I’m 6’3” and have been known to enjoy a game of Ultimate (not for years and years though).
I wasn't sure if this is the right area for me to ask this question or not. How do I put screen captures of my SC5 CAS from the PS3 to this forum? I honestly....don't know how to do this. :( What would I need in order to do this ? I really want to show some of my CAS on here (after seeing some of your folks great CAS's). :D
LordDraco covered making the PS3 screens and transferring them. I’d add that hosting them on a 3rd-party service is the kindest way as it doesn’t cost Jaxel any bandwidth. I confess that for sanity’s sake I tend to use the Upload feature in the forum itself; however, I’m using very lightweight JPG files I’ve manually scaled & cropped from my camera (I’m on X360) instead of the rather large images straight from a PS3.

Follow LordDraco3's post up there first. Then...
In each post you make, there's the "upload a file" tab right beside "post reply". I recommend doing that instead of storage system because of the limited bandwidth. There's a lot of traffic going on in 8wayrun so it can burn down fast.

Little tip about accessories
Try clipping items into each other or even into the body itself from time to time. You can get quite some nice things, especially pseudo-equipments. Here's an example:

Two "eye protectors" + "pure ring" on her torso = some weird supports for a gem-like core.

There are inspirations for that kind of thing around in people's album. A quick example for such use among the many great creators is VILARCANE, so check it out.

thanks Murasame, i posted a slideshow you all can browse through for inspiration...

and, i just found out about how to do a nice burnt flesh effect, check out my thread for the CAS that uses it...surprise ;o)

about mixing up accessories, if we had, say, 5 special equipment slots, we could do so much more...

Very true, as soon as I posted a ton of images to my thread, my photobucket overloaded, so I had to by a few months of premium for it to avoid the headache of uploading somewhere else. I don't personally like 8WR-hosted files, the thumbnail system never seems to work or displays really slowly for me...
BUT, it just goes to show, that it's best to make your files smaller and fewer than what the PS3 gives you. I've started placing all of my screenshots of a particular character into a single jpg pic. Saves assloads of bandwidth.

Clipping can indeed be a good thing, I had to do it here for a recreation:

on this one i say the choice of bright colors is a must, and well done...and you know that is not my thing ;o)
you could prolly have made an even better helmet with horns and stuff though (clipping special equipements together, precisely ;o)

Someone mentioned how to make blood stains, and someone else talked about the use of Basic 15.
I just thought I'd chip in and suggest: why not make blood using Basic 15?
Though it's less for blood smears and more for that "I've just stepped out of a massacre" look

1-Technically, your picture isn't that of a blood stain, but rather a blood spatter pattern.
2-your dress is ruined

Yours, Dexter ;o)

This however (face paint 62 with slightly different skin tone from base skin tone) is definitely burn scars !

I think these two have been mentioned in Le Bello's topic.

What I haven't seen prior to Carp is the use of Sticker 100 for blood splatter. I've started using it on my P3 Astaroth and Ash CAS once I saw how awesome it looks

Yeah, since we have a few ways of making stains I though I'd suggest a splattered option.
Also, I wouldn't say ruined. If she just massacres a few more people, she'll have a nice red dress to add to her wardrobe ;)
I discovered that burn scar trick earlier too! If made the same colour as their skin, they just look horrifically scarred.

Ah yes, I should have mentioned sticker 100 too! Another cool effect is adding heavy make up to a female and placing sticker 100 (similar colour to their skin) over the make up and you get running mascara. You can see it ever so slightly in that same character (if you ignore some of the blood):

And making the whites of the eyes slightly red makes them look like they've been crying.
Sorry, this is a ridiculously specific tip!

Alright. Thank you for the responses Gabedamien and Murasame. :)

Copied from Le Bello's tips post. You can extend the Elegant Bob hairstyle with the use of Helmet Ornament: Flames. Here is the formula that I use. Feel free to change it up a little, especially since you can do this up to three times depending on the number of special equipment used:

Back: -24
Width: 6
Length: 50
Depth: 50
Rotate Vertically: -167

Here is an example of what a final product can look like with two of the ornaments used.

Not sure if this has been discovered yet; But if you use Modern Pattern 16 on certain clothing; Such as Elysium's outfit or anything else miscellaneous, it sparkles until high heaven. Perfectly seen very well on brightly lit stages such as Utopia of The Blessed; Astral Chaos; and apparently the tower too.
