Gnouz TV #2: SCV Tournament Report From PGW

Gnouz Corp has produced another amazing episode of Gnouz TV. In this second episode, the video covers the two tournaments that were held in partnership with Namco Bandai Games for the demo build of Soulcalibur V at Paris Games Week 2011.

The video includes an interview with SC2 legend DTN (Dan The Nightmare) who gives his thoughts on Siegfried and on his performance in the tournament. The video also contains interviews with Furzy, Chiyo, Hayate, Saitoh, Keev, Akire, Malek, Keysona (who wouldn't even let a 9 year old boy beat him in tournament), and many others.

a lot of this information is very interesting, glad they are patching things in every build, rather than just releasing new characters, makes me worry though, for the final batch of characters, because they won't get proper play time, and may be under_over powered.

sad to see no one commenting on Tira, aside from altered move inputs.

PGW was a lot of fun. A bit too loud maybe, but fun nonetheless.

I suspect most of these characters, including whichever are revealed last, have been getting as much play testing as the characters we happen to have seen from day 1. They just haven’t gotten public play testing. However, I believe that the sort of small-scale, high-quality-player-targeted but too-short-to-master public demos are nowhere near as important to the devs as some people here think they are. All you have to do is watch the Japanese UStream games to see that we haven’t done more than scratch the surface with how the game is supposed to play, so assuming that the public demos matter at all to the character command list refining is kind of laughable in my humble opinion. Consider that they have skilled people testing these lists *full time* (or overtime!) for months on end.

As long as you have the manpower (and NB easily does), it’s not a serial process, it’s a parallel one - they undoubtedly chose the roster, or most of it, early on, and developed all the characters simultaneously. This is standard for game development. The reveals are almost certainly based more on a marketing plan than any other consideration, although it is of course always possible that one character or another is has a delayed reveal due to unexpected revisions or because they were added later in development.

Marketing games has always been about gradual, planned reveals. It only follows the dev schedule insofar as you can’t show anything you haven’t made yet (LOL - although you can of course announce it), but you’d better believe that every single game has loads of finished content that isn’t revealed until marketing decides it’s advantageous to do so.

This was a great, informative video. I wish we had a dedicated SC-centric media group in the states on Gnouz's level.

 

He thinks Viola is either going to be very strong or very weak... interesting. As far as I've seen, she's fortunately leaning more towards the former. :D

If you wanna look better, gain muscle or something but dont try losing any weight or else you'll become anorexic. :)
