High Level Fundamentals

I went back to watch every top 16/ top 8 soul calibur IV/ V tournament video to try to improve, and a common thing I heard from commentators when watching top players play is they have "good fundamentals". What are these fundamentals? And is that what separates good players from top players? I'm interested to hear from players like @Woahhzz @LostProvidence @lolo because these were the players that were in the matches that this was said that come to mind (I watched a lot of calibur matches)
