How do YOU practice?

Hey everyone, I need some advice. I've been playing more games and spending a lot of time in practice mode learning matchups, move properties, combos, and just frames. I understand it'll take alot more time to get good at the game and I'll keep at it, but I'm looking for some inspiration. So I wanna know, how do YOU practice to improve your game? Do you just play tons of games against a single character? Hammer away in the lab? Practice hit confirms? Where do you get the most bang for your buck?

I find I improve the most after I simply take out time to think about the game. Of course we do need a deep familiarity with the game, and reliable execution. So basic training and study cant be skimped on. But a lot of brainstorming with a bit of tempering from practical experience is my ideal practice session.

A big one for learning a new character for me is to first learn their major combos.
Then once I'm familiar with those I get their traps and set-ups.
Then I wail on everyone I know until someone straight wrecks me, and I figure out where I went wrong (bad matchup, them knowing how to counter my character), and from there, I work on whatever it is I need to beat that tactic or character.
Then I just repeat the last step forever.

i mostly practice combos and i always look through the move list to see if i forgot to integrate any moves in my mixup game, and always learning the pokes

I don't I'm just godly.
No joke, some people don't actually need to go into training mode and practice. My brother is a pretty damn good player, yet he doesn't really practice much. He just played the game enough to get a hang of what works. What he has seen to work online, he takes it and goes along with it. When it comes to wall combo's though, he did go into training mode to see what works best.

But yea, you don't actually need to practice, just playing and adapting can make you become a good player. People like that are pretty rare though.

To practice, (I know how to, but I dont do it god knows why). Obviously learn the best way to take advantage of an opporntunity eg, guard break, whiff, and wall splat. But also play a load of games just using BB, AA, and minimally G. This is will show how to do the best with little by stepping, creating whiffs, interpreting, when you start winning the majority start incorporating better versions of BB and AA. E.g Ivy BB is good but 6B is sometime better because of spacing, and where you would use AA to stop a step, use a stunning A move, e.g again with ivy it could be 4A, 3A

I'd love to see his level of skill with no practice. I wonder how many unsafe moves go unpunished when he plays.

lol most people who "learn" how to play like that usually end up spamming unsafe stuff, i know cause I use to do the same thing until I had my ass handed to me by Hyrul. To be genuinely good, you have to learn your char atleast half decently, for examples combo enders, IVY can add damage to most combos at the end with (B) but that leaves her at an awkward position and she loses the potential frame advantage, Where as if she runs up to them instead of (B) she has oki options, which can lead to Guard Damage, usually a CS, another combo e.g vs a wakeup attack, she gets 1BBE 6kb. So he might appear to be good, but to be genuinely good, you need to learn your char via practice

Can you teach me your ways? :P

Haha, fair enough but im good but no pro.
You need to learn how to space and step
-Moving around the opponent not only cause fake pressure, it also increases the chance they will whiff and be heavily punishable, But dont step like an idiot like scrubby tekken players because when you're moving any hits landed on you are |CH, and that can lead heavy combos Viola can do 80% if she has 2 bars.
-Also some moves track to one side, like tiras 66A, if you step to one side the range is huge, the other it will whiff. If you can learn where some moves track, you can create whiffs.

Learning how to use basic moves before getting flashy
AA, BB and throws learn how to use these first, then you can take the piss with the better moves.

Learn to just guard,
This feature could be argued to break the game, you can JG any attack in the game, it almost always allows you to attack after a successful just guard. So get a feel for different speeds of moves, SC doesnt really break trend in the fact fast, medium and heavy moves are still used. E.G AA would be fast so a JG wouldn't give much unless you managed to JG the first, duck the second and punish with a fast WR attack. Ivy 9A would be more a medium move, so you get more of a punish, and so forth, so learn how to take advantage of different punish opportunities.

Combos, Wallsplats
Tbh you could youtube some good players for the char you want and copy what they do, and learn how much damage a combo does. E.G the player is almost KO'd but a CH 2A+B 6b8 wont do it, so you add in the extra 1B BE, but mid match and the extra 1B BE wont KO, dont use them. Its usually a good idea to have some bar throughout the game.

Hey man, could you expand on this thought? What's good movement and what's stepping like an idiot? Haha.

I personally play people who are far better than me, see if I can find something new/interesting that I could do to apply to my style, and finally practice combos/just frames/just guard/guard impact/tactics in practice.
