Ideas for new characters?

I think some Karmas, (Is that the name of that hand ring blades) Would suit more the cast, but I guess the series is lacking heavy hitters....so why not a giant Katana.
You mean Chakrams. I think a female character from India would look good wielding twin Chakras. Kinda gives both Voldo and Tira a run for their money. A giant Katana? Whoever's wielding that weapon better have a 4B that'll make Mitsurugi blush.

I got some more ideas for new warriors: How about a fighter from Siam, one who uses Kama Sickles and fights with Muay Thai, since there was no representation for Southeast Asia in Soul Calibur V, a Russian character who uses a broadsword, or how about an Egyptian warrior (particularly female) who uses twin daggers.

I agree with those who'd like to see a more racially diverse cast. watching asians battle euros gets old after a while. I know expanding the racial make-up of the game would end up reducing ethnic groups to stereotypes but i'd prefer a parade of racial stereotypes to a game with only asians and euros. All of the suggestions for native north americans, africans, pacific islanders (who really did have shark tooth lined swords!) east indians, arabs, and native south americans are super. I'd like to suggest a native american wielding a tomahawk and gun stock club. see the daniel day lewis version of last of the mohicans, daniel's father uses one to kill magua

I honestly don't believe either one is better than the other. Either way, we're still going to have actual racists calling things racist just because they're not how they picture things should be.

This is kind of the problem, too though. It's frickin' hard to portray characters of different cultures and not have them give the intended audience a "dafuq is that" reaction without resorting to cliches that racists claim are racist. Native American wielding any sot of axe or bow? Racist. Native African wielding a spear or any sort of polearm? Racist. Arabian with a scimitar? Racist. Using alternate, historically and culturally accurate weapons would confuse those of us that weren't really familiar with the culture. I mean, imagine if Tira was suddenly claimed to be of ____ origin. Who the hell makes a hula-hoop sword, let alone has it as part of their culture?

...This makes me wonder why white people never play the race card, actually. Why do all the white people have swords? If I was white I'd want to play the race card there just for the shiggles. Why *DON'T* you white people ever play the race card when someone is racist towards you anyways? That's always confused me. Oh well.

I have three. Any or all would be cool to me.

i see your point, an afirican wielding a shield and spear would be perceived as racist even if it is historically accurate. I get it. however, a game like SC with world-wide appeal including only 2 or 3 ethnic groups is even more racist. (putting a black char in the game as the grim reaper always struck me as racist and i wonder if that had anything to do with zas' dismissal) So far as i know, native americans didn't get all bent out of shape when SCV came out with that reductive/racist headdress (which i love) It might be quite cathartic to just let all (not just 2) ethnic groups fight eachother in a video game.
as for why white folks don't play the race card... um, we basically lost that privilege when we subjugated all those other races. there's a lot of upside to being white, not being able to play the race card i can live with

Because white people have no cultural history or memory of oppression. Racism is offensive because it harkens back to days when people treated others as subhuman. That's why the term "cracker" isn't hurtful, but nigger or spic or w/e are. They are reminders of things best not repeated.

I think the proper term based on the examples you listed are "stereotypical". It applies to whites as well. Caucasian Americans wearing read, white, and blue, or dressing like cowboys and hillbillies are stereotypical, or Germans dressing like the Nazi, Russians having a thick accent and having Soviet appearances, French men acting like Pepe Le Pew. They are all stereotypes.

The game already has stereotypes anyways. Mitsurugi is a stereotypical Japanese samurai, but developed further. Cervantes was not so much of a stereotype when he began, but now he's drinking alcohol out of mugs and his stages are always him cruising in boats in the stormy nights. Only thing that doesn't make him a full out pirate stereotype is the way he talks.

But I don't see people complaining about Prince of Persia having scimitars.

Bring back The Apprentice's style for a male ninja character... or maybe older Taki.
Vader for The longsword moveset.
Yoda for nothing.
Tweak as necessary.
Twerk as well.

Hmm just wondering isn't the morningstar the same weapon but without the chain?
Just wondering cuz I remember seeing one with the design that was more like a mace.

I think it's technically referred to as a "flail". I don't know why but I just don't like the term. Sounds weak - reminds me of a limp penis or something: Watch me twirl my flail! Yep...sounds like a penis.

Double Voulge wielder please!

Basically a staff with two blades attached to both ends, kind of like Darth Maul, only there is more stick and less saber... The voulge itsself is not that heavy, yet has a significant length.

Its wielded completely different than traditional staffs- can be wielded one hand as well, depending on the strength of the user. Both blades means the wielder can easily achieve 360 degree protection. Both blades also mean the wielder can have attacks where he/she can strike up and down very fast, allowing for unpredicable mixups.

I have a triple-headed flail under my bed. Let's put THAT in the game.

I don't really see the similarity, hmm... actually make me remember when I played Ragnarok and played as a novice, and the only weapons were maces and flail, novices are white mages, so they can't drop blood of they enemies.

I like your thought process. However, I'd like to tweak these notions a bit.

Apprentice-style: Give it to Patroklos. Remove Force powers. Bring Setsuka back. Profit for justice.
Vader-style: longsword style people really want. Hand over 'Rugi's longswords. Profit.
Yoda-style: Die, it must.
Ezio-style: Bring back for some European assassin dude. Profit.
Zasalamel: Bring him back. No one hated him. Even the racist-callers admitted he was a badass.
Talim: Bring back, age up, more wind.
Other old characters: NPC. I'd rather they kept the new guys as the main cast, but left the rest in the story. Maybe do what they did with SCIV-unique-characters with an official model using new styles.
New style: Morningstar (Bangoo?). NOT A ROCK CLONE.

Flails exists because, in medieval times, villages would often get invaded during wars and such.
Now, the average peasant was in no way equipped to deal with a fully armoured bastard, and so flails were created. They required little strength to wield, and allowed the peasants to do some decent damage, even IF they weren't likely to win.

This is why you'll often see them being used by less physically capable classes in RPGs, such as Priests, Mages, etc.
