Le Bello's Challenging Create-A-Soul Challenge Contest!

As for the themes of challenges I think people just enjoy a degree of wriggle room. Recreations are popular I just don't think a lot of peope saw much creative freedom in copying outfits already in the game. Personally speaking I like putting my own twist on things and seeing the twists other people come up with. Challenges like Talim, The 4 Horsemen and the fairies worked well because you had familiar ideas while also leaving enough space for people to be creative and do their own things with them. In this instance that wasn't really the case. Sure you could improvise and make a close aproximation to what you wanted but at the end of the day the end result would never be 100% bang on perfect which can be offputting for some.

I think as long as the concept isn't too limiting, people will enter and enjoy it. This one was maybe a little too limiting. Just my 2 pennies.

I thought as much. The idea was to try encourage people to use things in ways they hadn't thought of, but I feel Pocky Yoshi's contest does that in a MUCH better way.

I think I know what I'm going to go with next. It'll give people a lot more freedom and allow them to think a little outside the box, whilst hopefully not putting anyone off.

Neclord's Pat wasn't necessarily "pretty"... but what it lacked in aesthetics, it made up for in technicality. Aside from the technical aspect, it seemed a little un-finished--sleeves lacked stickers, ect. The fact that it was a pat 1p made it seemed cheapened as the costume lacks many interesting features (save for maybe the bobcat). With that in mind, i just felt like it wasn't a challenging recreation.
.

I agree you that i'ts "un-finished" overall feeling, and lacked stickers, but I just want to point that max stickers aren't just enough, since I need 4 only to the medal in the chest and two for trousers.

For me, it comes down to two and it's kind of a tough choice. yosharioIII's Leixia is very impressive. The use of the rabbit ears on the corset is truly impressive and must've taken a very long time to do, given how difficult it is to work with them. d_b's Kilik makes great use of stickers and the helmet, though not convincingly accurate, looks awesome nonetheless.

In the end, I cast my vote for d_b. The rabbit ears have some clipping issues that seem like it would be noticeable in combat and d_b's design just looks more complete.

Hmmm.... ~_~

After a long time, here are my votes for this contest (as well as my reasons why I voted in the first place):

*) 1st Place ~ d_b's version of Kilik.

Why so? Because he simply managed to capture most (if not all) of the overall factors involved in original Kilik's design (which includes the incredibly improvised helmet, by the way). Nicely done!

I'm truly impressed with the results, d_b.... m(_ _)m

*) 2nd Place ~ Sett's version of Dampierre

There are two reasons why I voted this. One, that design looks amusing to my eyes (seriously!). ^_^

Second, it's a woman perfectly disguised as Le Bello. That only adds even further to my amusement. Style points to Sett on this one! :D

...The only reason that Sett's design didn't make it first place like it should is that, for me, there's something about it that certainly doesn't feel right even though Sett got most of the looks down. I really don't know why, to be honest.... :(

*) 3rd Place ~ yoshariolll's version of Natsu posing as Leixia (or was it the other way around? I'm confused for a bit....)

One of the most unique way of utilizing this CaS character to represent not just one, but TWO characters from the Soul Calibur V main roster! It caught me quite off guard, to be honest.... o_O

Sadly, it's not as good as the other two in terms of overall impact for me. Nonetheless, it was a very nice effort on the designer to think and improvise, so yoshariolll gets my respect on that note. :)

*) Honorable Mention ~ NeclordX's Patroklos

I don't know how he did it, but he somehow managed to capture Patroklos' looks completely and took a lot of people by surprise (including me, to be honest). Wow...! o.O

But I must agree with some of the other posters here in that, aside from good points in technicality, it somehow felt slightly rushed. Had NeclordX took a bit more time and fixed it some more, he would've already won the entire contest hands down! Too bad.... =/

...And here ends my votes. Now I rest my case. Thank you all and good night, everyone (Special thanks to Le_Bello for informing about the voting time for this contest right away)! m(_ _)m

I don't know! I don't know! For me it is really torn between d_b's Kilik, and Sett's female Le Bello (La Bella?). I'd to honorably mention The Pascuzzi's female Pat, which I thought was pretty cool.

No but, the only thing that really bugs me about Sett's is the stache, however, the reast of the outfit just pulls attention away from that, I didn't really notice it at first. d_b's Kilik... The improvised helm bothers me for some reason... the rest of the outfit looks pretty good... just the more I look at the helmet... the more I dislike the creation...

I'll truly have to go with Sett

I actually didn't like Kilik for the same reason as yosh--the helmet bothered me the first time I glanced at it.

I had to look at it again after seeing an overwhelming number of votes. The rest of him does look fantastic (seriously, that sticker and pattern work is bar none), but I agree with yosh that the helmet is off-putting. I think the reason is Kilik's helm possesses no real hard lines and flat surfaces (something the feathers used make instantly noticable), but mostly curves, which may be better created via horns. Just my 2 cents.

Out of pure curiosity, what makes people choose one design over another?

Scyle asked me why I thought people were voting Le Bella over Le Belloroth, and I gave him an answer I thought appropriate.

However I'd like to encourage people to discuss their CaS, and for this little group we have to really build up and help each other. So people I put that question, and many more possibly, to you: Why Sett over Scyle?

Now, just so you're all aware, this is completely removed from my position as a judge. Any answers will have zero bearing on how I feel - I've already picked two for my personal choice award - I just feel that we can all help each other.

Maybe I've noticed the influx of new CaS threads, and seen that most of them are a bit lacking. Maybe I'm haven't. Either way I think you should talk about your choices and theories and such as well! As long as your votes are made clear enough. Also, please don't post any pictures of CaS, other then contest submissions. That'd be messy.

Finally, if you haven't already checked out Pocky_Yoshi's "Iron CaS" thread, I suggest you do! I'm (apparently) helping run it, and it's a great little idea.

Sett's just looks better to me. Specifically, the jacket, hat and shoe pattern, and body model used. Plus the colors seem less bright than Scyle's (more akin to Damp's real colors).
They're both good, but Sett's is better to me, so got my vote.
(✿◠‿◠)

I can see why people would choose Le Bella over Le Belloroth--technically speaking, it is a more in-depth/accurate creation. There is more use of special items going on in particular, and the body suit is more accurate, better choice in jacket, etc. She is also using the correct fighting style. also better photos/views (something I've mentioned to Scyle before--We can't see your creation very well with just one picture!)

However, I chose Le Belloroth for a few different reasons. Recently, I have been on an Astaroth creation spree as of late, and I have been trying to do more and more 3P edits because they get better lines/intros/voice acting...but the offset is: they are hard! I know how difficult it can be to edit 3P sometimes, often lacking in the undergarment department for some strange reason, and not allowing the editing of skin, eyes, etc. But the main reason I picked him is sheer comical value. Le Bello drinking Dr. Jackle's potion and "hulking out" into the biggest meanest character in the game? HILARIOUS!

In the end, it came to two choices: both looked good, even if one had more technical creation ability, so it was the idea behind them that I looked at: Genderbend/girly Le Bello? Or crazed "I'm going to kill ALL OF YOU" Le Bello? It's like the polar opposite of his character, it was too funny not to pick.

I also liked his mustache better.

After looking at the entries again and again I do believe that I'm going to cast my vote for d_b's Kilik. Helmet aside, (which I hadn't even really noticed till it was mentioned, and after looking at it again it didn't bother me.) I just think that the creation as a whole was not only more accurate, but also more complete.

A very close contender was La Bella, but ultimately the mustache threw me off too much for me to give it the vote.

Fuck my tash, was my greatest achievement but my biggest downfall D=>
It does look more like a Mario mustache. But I thought it suited the idea of Le Bella, like in movies when women try and disguise themselves as men "maybe if I wear a big enough mustache, they won't be able to see that I'm actually a woman..."

In my case is because I think Le bella costume is lot more close to Dampierre than other one.

Le bella has a full body striped suit like le bello, not just a trousers like the Bellorogh, the jacke of one resemble Dampierre, the other is totally different...well, I would continue pointing differences but it is not necessary.

Ill be honest, Le Bellorogh doesn't look as dampierre at all, not the color, not the clothes, not the overall feeling, it looks mor like an original character.

In my case I would like to comment more my "votes", and comment each creation by separate. But as always I try to keep my post simples due my poor english.

Totally understandable. And your English is pretty good - It's not your native language then?

I welcome all opinions openly and humbly but if I may exercise my humanly jealousy for one moment. =|:}
All respect for Sett and his amazing design so here I shall try to be as fair as possible. (Believe me, I'm not afraid to lose so I have no problem getting destroyed but I feel people are overlooking things here)

1. The challenge was to recreate Le Bello's design. Simple enough as both Sett and I have performed. However neither of us recreated LE BELLO so basing a Le Bella versus Le Belloroth as a justifiable means isn't really logical HOWEVER a personal opinion is completely fine so don't think I'm just raging at you guys for it lol.

2. Shirt and Body Suit: Sett. I give the advantage to Sett here because well it's just a better and more appropriate design. I can't say my choice was perfect but to be fair I found it was adequate. However, Sett got me there. Though if you would notice literally is no possible clothing choice for a male character to reflect this accurately so I went with the next best thing. I'd say the Warrior's Vest over top Leather Shirt would work but it's debatable hence my not going with it.

3. Hat: Me. If you would notice Dampierre only has a ring around his hat, not an entire design. I done my best attempting to recreate said ring and I would feel it's more accurate.

4. Shoes: Me. If you would look at Dampierre's shoe design, you'd notice it has a pointed tip and it's design doesn't match Sett's. It's brown and gold and the design isn't supposed to wrap the entire foot. Then look at the Xie/my footwear. Turn it brown and gold then what do you got?

5. Colors: Tie. If you would notice, Dampierre's clothing is just a tad bit brighter in his yellow and purple than what Sett's design is to where is I feel mine is a slight closer and maybe just a wee oversaturated but a tiny bit. However his shirt design compensates and allows him for a full body suit thus easily competing with the technicality. Given what I had though, I did quite attempt to at least make it look reasonable.

6. Moustache: Me. Meh.

7. Originality: Tie. That's all on personal taste. He has Le Bella, I have Le Belloroth. I'm an Astaroth player, not a Damp player so I chose his design. I figured I'd add the personal flair and importantly had the design before the contest was up.

7. Necktie and Pendant: Sett. The necktie is whatever but Sett made the pendant and I didn't so full advantage.

Further notes: I've fooled at least 2 people into thinking I had Damp's clothing and one even went on a full search for it. He always manages to get a chuckle. Again Sett deserves the praise he gets because he made a great design but I wanted to make sure Le Belloroth wasn't just whimsically overlooked.

Voting will end very soon. I'm giving you all a final hour.

I realise that won't take it anywhere near the 11:59PM mark, but as I'll be out all day I thought it better if we wrap this up sooner.

Are we all in agreement?

Plus, I want to get the next theme off to a start. There's something special going on behind the scenes, and not even I know what it will be...

Round 2 is CLOSED FOREVER. Details are in the first post. Will update with the next theme shortly. That depends entirely on circumstances not my own.
