As for the themes of challenges I think people just enjoy a degree of wriggle room. Recreations are popular I just don't think a lot of peope saw much creative freedom in copying outfits already in the game. Personally speaking I like putting my own twist on things and seeing the twists other people come up with. Challenges like Talim, The 4 Horsemen and the fairies worked well because you had familiar ideas while also leaving enough space for people to be creative and do their own things with them. In this instance that wasn't really the case. Sure you could improvise and make a close aproximation to what you wanted but at the end of the day the end result would never be 100% bang on perfect which can be offputting for some.
I think as long as the concept isn't too limiting, people will enter and enjoy it. This one was maybe a little too limiting. Just my 2 pennies.
I thought as much. The idea was to try encourage people to use things in ways they hadn't thought of, but I feel Pocky Yoshi's contest does that in a MUCH better way.
I think I know what I'm going to go with next. It'll give people a lot more freedom and allow them to think a little outside the box, whilst hopefully not putting anyone off.
