Lightening Returns Final Fantasy XIII

It looks the same lol.

I've never had any beef with the FFXIII franchise. Thought the first game was....... ok, not awful but not great.
Thought XIII-2 was quite good, big improvement over XIII in almost every way, albeit i hate story DLC....
And so i will get this game as a FF and jrpg fan because i don't care.

The thing is i'm not hype about it, i wasn't hype over any FF game since before XI and will never be again until GOD DAMN VERSUS XIII COMES OUT.

The game looks interesting, hope interesting translates to good later on.

But in reality all i want is Versus XIII, the reason i have a PS3, and Type-0 which is quite good as well.

Biggest problems with FF13 ran the gamut of a meandering story with little information supplied to the reader/player of the world setting or the characters (or why we should care). There are a few good points in the story, but ultimately it fails and the payoff isn't there.

Other issues included the summon system that's largely useless by the middle half of the game, with characters still acquiring them by the late game. Improving weapons and equipment feels tacked off and most encounters are slap-dashed. The Paradigm system is weak, lacking of depth and often consists of buffing, healing, and smashing enemies in an MMO style setup. Rather boring, as we've seen similar (albeit somewhat deeper) combat systems from earlier games in the series and elsewhere.

FF13-2 doesn't improve much as it takes the little payoff in FF13 and invalidates with a new story quest that's ultimately invalidated by the end game (leaving no payoff). Further the game starts chucking out some goddess and prophetess which, may or may not, have been mentioned in the first game. And if it was, it certainly wasn't included in the main story line that everyone plays and was probably buried somewhere deep in the analects data log. The combat system is literally the same as the first with little deviation and some slight refinements. It barely helps, however, that neither Serah nor Noel are truly that different from each other beyond cosmetics and a (very) few exclusive sets of skills.

Perhaps LR: FF13 might give us some new game play ideas and abilities (the "equips" seem kind of interesting), but I've pretty much given up hope on getting any sort good story. I'm not sure where idea of these four worlds come from. Or why the world is ending in thirteen days (didn't it already end with the appearance of Valhalla in 13-2?). Most of what they showed makes literally no cohesive sense from FF13-2's ending.

Much as I wasn't fond of how the system played out, that bolded statement is the gist of every FF fight since 1. The fact that you use this as a detractor is kinda dumb.

And no, XIII was not an MMO setup. XII was an MMO setup.

FF12 didn't use a traditional MMO setup. FF12 is primarily designed around an auto-battle mechanic through the use of Gambits. Elements of tanking, dealing damage, and healing are a fundamental part of the game play since those roles do not exist in the game structure. FF12's MMO-like setups revolved around the exploration/navigation of areas and confront enemies on the same screen.

FF13 consists of more MMO-like roles (Commando, Ravager, Sentinel, Medic, etc) through the use of Paradigm Shifts.

And this is what I was specifying when I talked about combat systems from prior games:
Offering + Genji Glove = 8 Attacks.
NSG Challenge. Albeit FF13 offers similar challenges. I merely selected this to represent the depth one can do with this system utilizing the unique abilities provided by each character.

And those are just some examples.

Oh my poor, poor ego.

Tis a poor ego indeed. It can't even afford worthwhile opinions.

FF13 doesn't have an MMO set-up at all. The paradigms are roles sure but they have a limited value for each character and why/how you unlock it all it totally different than the standard MMO skill tree. Since each character can max out all things, they can all be any role at any time, unlike MMO's. The battle system is straight up nothing like any MMO out there. Even how you run around the world in a linear fashion doesn't do jack shit like an MMO. They don't tell the story like an MMO, they don't do ANYTHING like it.

FF12 does almost..... everything like an MMO. In MMO's you explore the area with mission bases to level up. The battle system is exactly like most MMO's only since it's 1 player, the Gambit system is used in place of having to manually do everything for the other party members and because it's a grind fest, LIKE AN MMO, used to have a level of auto play that broke the god damn game. The Licence's are closer to a traditional MMO skill tree than the Crystal stuff in 13 ever was, you get to choose how you character plays out over time both in skills nad weapons. Albeit eventually you get everything which no MMO should ever do, and don't that i know of.
Some characters are better Tanks, and Healers, and Offensive Magic users in the game than others.

I literally do not understand how or what you're talking about with FF13 trying to be like an MMO but FF12 NOT being so and nothing you said showed anything at all as to why.

You're a joke my friend. You can type walls of text all day, but they don't mean anything if you're an idio....... a Windstar.

Also is this the beginning of yet ANOTHER argument on 8WR involving Animefreak? Will he be victorious this time as he is every other time? CAN WINDSTAR TAKE HIS BEATINGS LIKE A MAN/WOMAN/FUTANARI SEX SLAVE AND COME BACK STRONGER THAN EVER????
Find out next time on..... FORUM TROLL Z.......

Also know it's not, because i don't care about FF13 and even if what you said is write, which it is NOT, i and most others shouldn't care because the game is at BEST OK and at worst OK, it's an OK game.

Don't taze me bro.

Forgive me, I'm not trying to be condescending here. Merely trying to present an argument and a personal opinion.

When it comes to Final Fantasy games, and their leveling/combat systems, its fair to note that the games generally grant a wide degree of flexibility. In FF12 and FF13 (and FF10, and FF7 and FF8) you can basically tweak the characters to be anything and everything with enough grinding.

Based on my experiences, I've never had to grind in FF12. FF12's License Board itself is fairly open ended as well compared to the structured leveling of the Crystogen, or the Sphere Grid. Since modern MMOs (and FF14) are defined heavily by roles and abilities, I see FF13 as more of MMO type game with things like Tanks such as the Sentinel Paradigm. Whereas FF12's (non-international version) license board did not really construct itself toward a specific role. You could pick your weapons and have a somewhat unique experience with it between others, but ultimately it didn't vary much. There's no prescribed tanking class, damage-focused class, or healing class. Every character could pretty much pick up everything with fewer limits that what's in FF13 or FF10.

I don't really see the License Board or the Crystogen system as anything like an MMO skill tree. Usually with those, you're presented with choices and limit on the number of choices you can make. In either case, FF12 and FF13 don't really have hard limits on choices you make, or the choices are an illusion and you're merely filling in points (ala Sphere Grid). In either case, neither of these systems really constitute a traditional MMO skill engine. Nor was I arguing that FF13 was trying to be like an MMO. All I said was that FF13's combat system is on the shallow side as it takes elements of MMO's combat structure and roles to a certain extreme (Tank, Healing, Damage, Buff, Debuff). Not that the game was being like an MMO (because it isn't).

Any who, that's just my opinion. I've hoped clarified my points a bit better.

But those roles don't actually play any major roles, ZING, per character in the combat. Because they can all be everything at all times, after leveling of course. The TITLES of things they give you doesn't direct anything as to what kind of game it is.
FF12, albeit very loosely, still has characters being tanks or healers, just not with a title and with the same level of character diversity as FF13, which is none really.
HOWEVER when playing the game itself with it's mechanics and battles and movement and everything, FF13 is an ATB filled juggle fest. Like an action game without actively having action.
While FF12 actual combat system is almost exactly that of an MMO, despite the need for ROLES or Jobs or Classes. Because it's a single player game almost emulating an MMO battle system.

FF10 was better at this than both of these because the Grid allowed for the characters to fill out skills and exp for the characters specific traits. Each character was it's own class. Summoner, Thief, Blue Mage, Black Mage, etc.... just with no titles behind it.
You only crossed over into each other when you found the Sphere's that allowed you to break into another "class" and use those abilities.

It just doesn't make sense

Just curious, Windstar. Did you ever play FF11? I have.

FF12 feels a lot like a single-player FF11.

FF13's system couldn't work in an MMO at all.

Yeah, I played FF11. FF12 doesn't really feel like FF11. There's no jobs, no unique abilities exclusives to each character beyond MIst Knacks, etc. FF12 feels more like a Secret of Mana game with a robust auto-battle system and a lack of diversity.

Which is why you've gotta be kinda coocoo my friend. There doesn't need to be JOBS for the battle system to play similarly. You're focusing too much on labels.

Lightning is one of the most blatant and shameless examples of an author's pet I've ever seen in a professional work of fiction.

She's literally a Cloud palette swap, minus anything that made Cloud human or likeable and plus everything that made Squall an irritating little shit. She's rude, she's surly, she's hostile to everyone, and she's really, really selfish; while she was tag-teaming with Hope he outright admits that he wants to kill Snow and needs her help so he'll be strong enough to do it, and she basically just goes along with it while dragging him to go blow up Eden. She's directly corrupting this angry, stupid kid by encouraging him to murder her sister's fiancee, just because she needs a competent partner for her suicide mission. Also in the beginning of the game she tries to leave Sazh all by himself on an extension bridge in the middle of a fucking warzone. What an asshole.

This wouldn't be a problem if the character development in this game made any fucking sense, but instead we get WE'RE JUST PETS and like one other scene where all of her problems are fixed and she becomes "a good person." She doesn't ever actually redeem herself to the audience in any way, the story just tells them "oh, she's not an asshole anymore, take our word for it!" We're supposed to stop hating her after that point, but since she never does anything to warrant that we fucking don't.

It just gets fucking ridiculous in the sequels, where now she's a super-awesome flying Valkyrie and SHE FIGHTS PURPLE SEPHIROTH ALL DAY IN HEAVEN HNNNNNNNNGH GOD THIS IS THE BEST FANFICTION I'VE EVER WRITTEN

Toriyama's behavior for interviews and press releases is just fucking shameful. He's like Japanese fucking Chris Chan.

I could not have seen any of that more differently than you did, dragon man.

Selfish? The whole reason she winds up in any trouble, becomes a fugitive and sets off on her adventure at all is that she's trying to save her sister. You are literally wrong from the very start.

Lightning got the soldier mentality, there is only the mission which is Serah. Like a good soldier she has that sense of duty, she saves Hope from Odin 20 seconds after telling Hope to gtfo.

Squall my fav though. FF8 has some crazy ass theories though.

Squall is by far my least favorite main character, and FF8 one of my least favorite games.
Squall is a retarded, self loathing sack of bad writing. The only good thing about it was that there was no voice to make me listen to his BS. Until Dissidia that is.......... his segments in that game CEMENTED my stance on not wanting FF8 to be remade in any way for current or future gen systems. When before it was just i didn't want FF8 over any other game to be chosen.
Other than FF 1, 3, and X-2 in the numbered series, 8 is just awful.

LETS HATE THINGS.

EDITL: And YES this includes characters like VAAN, TIDUS and CLOUD. Squall is just ass.

Really? I actually dislike a lot of FF protagonists, but some of my favorite characters come from FF8, including Squall. But I also never played Dissidia.

Vaan fuck man, like the imbred version of Tidus. Fuck his face, fuck his voice fuck his space pirates.

FF12 such a bad game I would literally rinse every boss by using my OP as fuck summon finisher on them until I got far enough in the game the bosses just one hit kill me. Also fuck gambits, why should I program my fucking team, think for yourself, twats. Then there's the lisenses and shit, oh so I have to buy a spell and the lisense to use it? Also the elf girl dat ass. The English guy was appreciated too.

Only thing with Squall I don't like is every girl wants to bang him and he has no idea. The gameplay with FF8 was pretty silly though with the drawing. Still, Squall's the man. Don't like his surfer boy voice in KH2 though.

/hate

Own

Oh and Squall's 3rd limit break make Siegfried look like a tosser.

That's not the only thing wrong with Squall, everything is wrong with Squall. Hell that may be one of the things that is least wrong with Squall, not knowing when a lady wants in his pants.

Also FF12 > FF8. I may hate FF12, but it's a solid game. Just like how FF9 is my favorite but it is NOT a great game
