Thats a good point Zan. I feel that i have a much more laid back attitude towards SC and our little community than Engared. As far as im concerned if i show up on a sunday and have a good time one weekend im gonna come back the next weekend. I like all the guys I play with and we have a good time. I could name maybe... 4 people other than myself who id say are very into SC and for me thats been enough so far.
That said we seem to be getting alot of new members lately though which is good. Their skill level isnt as high as The rest of us naturally because they havent played the game as much. A conversation with Runis a while back has led me to a theory though, Runis claimed that when he started LG would beat him 3-0 almost every match but he managed so get better over the coarse of a few months of getting romped and now they are 7-3 or 6-4 which is much better. Playing against someone who is much better than him and who knows the game much better than him allowed Runis to learn and adapt. I feel that its no different with the new people were getting and Us. Engared, Myself,Eclair and the others will be telling the newer players where they went wrong after every lost round and always attempt to teach them new things. If the few new guys we have stick to it and play us every week and practice the game I think we will eventually have a set of players that are all of similar skill and I personally would enjoy that even more than i enjoy our current sessions especially since everyone new has main characters that none of us main. Still no Ivys though unfortunately.
As much as the idea of a community for a game thats becoming somewhat out of date growing goes on paper it seems a little bit silly. That being said I feel that SC as a game has what it takes to draw people in especially new players. The characters move freely through the 8wayrun system and the execution of most of the moves/comboes leaves a margin for error. This means that it doesent take too long before players can get to a level where its about mind games and mix ups more than who knows more moves or who has the better comboes/execution. This I think appeals to new players and putting myself in a new players shoes il say the same thing i said before 'If I have fun one week, il come back next week!'
All that about the game being said at the end of the day this is also a social thing and we have a ball bagging out each others mothers. See you at Engareds!
