NES Battletoads

Once and that was years ago when I was like 12. I tried more recently (about two years ago or so) and got thoroughly whomped.

Great game.

dude startropics was like the hardest game i played when i was playing the NES (then again the system came out when i was 6)

Hell no to the great game part.

One of the most frustrating games ever made and today it just shows some bad game design. Tradewest can suck a big one for Battletoads. Double Dragon is a different story.

Double Dragon was my ish. I didn't play 1 much, I own 2 and my cousin owns 3. I remember starting the game on 2 Player B and kicking P2's butt for the extra lives. I didn't like playing 3 with my cousin much because he would always die and take the extra characters.
I have part 2 and 3 for gameboy. 2 was a nice challenge, but 3 was rediculously difficult. Never beat 3 for the gb.

I disagree with part of that statement.

I never beat it and it is frustrating to play, but the control is good and I do feel accomplished when I beat a level in that game.

I didn't play it a week ago, so I'm not really sure what you mean by bad game design.

The game looked nice for an NES and it had good soundtrack.
I still think Battletoads is a good game.

I say watch the AVGN for that one. I have played Double Dragon 3 and I have a hard time getting past the first level. That game just hurts.

Double Dragon III wasn't hard for me, until the end with cheap ass mummy Marian and Ermac choke and fire snakes bs. Chin was the man though. Killed any normal enemy with a full bunch combo, and his double air kick was too pimp. The ninja was kinda weak though. Flying hugs don't look intimidating.

I'll be honest, I never made it that far. I just remember that first few guys you got were awful (or I couldn't use them) so if you lost either Bimmy or Jimmy, that was it.

the grand daddy of all hard games has got to be bart vs the space mutants. i lost count of how many controllers got broken thanks to that game. it still gives me nightmares

I still can't believe how Bimmy got by without being corrected to Billy.
I have Bart vs the Space Mutants. My favorite stage was the carnival. I would just get coins and win 1ups. I hated the museum stage though. There was a time when I couldn't pass it (damn tar pit jump to a lil bone).

I thought rare made the game and it was puplished by tradewest...

i had Combat frogs back in the day and i always died on the 3rd stage with the speederbike. I only got past it once...The only person I know that has ever beaten that game with no problem my friends brother hwo is probably the biggist dork anyone here will ever meet. I mean, this kid doesn't bathe, or leave his house or even speak to people...and he is in his mid 20s!...but he can ebat battletoads like a mofo and he's beaten disgea on like 100% multiple times

Section Z, Ninja Gaiden 3, and Chakan the Forever Man are all epic-tier hard games.

I heard Gamestop has Battletoads, call them up and ask for a copy.

All the NES Ninja Gaiden games were just memorization.

And Bart vs. the Space Mutants? Really? I legitimately beat that game forever ago, which I never managed with Battletoads. There IS a very hard Simpsons game, though...Bart's Nightmare.

Also, a top-tier difficulty NES game you've never heard of: Holy Diver. Only released in Japan, and if you're wondering what's up with the title...yes, you play as Ronnie James Dio (in the year 666, yes this is the actual plot), and he happens to look an awful lot like Simon Belmont. Was an awesome game on multiple levels, but it's up there with Battletoads in frustration. Apparently there was a preview of this in Nintendo Power or some other magazine, but the US release was canceled. =/

My friend tried playing this game recently on some flash-based NES emulation site, and he actually called and told me about it.....and it was hard as hell he said. :D
