PC videos do not sync up

Please forgive me for I am half computer retarded.

A few months ago when I watched videos on youtube and such, there is a almost full second of delay between what Im watching and the sound.

I have tried different browsers, updating windows, flash, etc etc etc. Doesnt matter what quality of vid I watch but the higher the quality the worse it is. It didnt always used to be like this. It used to work just fine.

Can someone help me out?

Sound comes first?
Is your computer old?
Does this happen even at the lowest quality?
Something may be taking up the processor time, have you installed anything new (virus checker, etc) that would affect it?

Yes, sound comes first

My PC is prolly 4 years old.

If I put the vid on 240 quality, is pretty close, but still kinda off. And the picture is horrible!!

Ive always had norton installed, ANd I installed system mechanic bout a month ago, but its been doing it way before that.

This is pretty frustrating, Im pretty limited on what I can do bout fixing things. All I really know how to do is update things. The only programs that run in the back ground is norton. I purposly dont run anything else for maximum speed of my PC. Help me obi wan kenobi, your my only hope!!

Maybe computer is gettin old but somethin must have made it start to do that (unless they changed somethin on YouTube).
If you increase the RAM it may run better.
Norton is defragin your drive and cleanin it up (automatically)?
I use Norton too...

Honestly Im not 100% sure what norton does. I know it acts like a firewall but I dont think it defrags. Ima get more RAM over the weekend and see what that does.

HRD

Which Norton you do you have?- I have Norton 360 and it can do everything, other Norton's do less.
You should try gettin rid of unneeded programs and run Disk Cleanup (in the Accessory and then the System Tools menu).
Then Defrag your drive (may need it if you haven't done it in a long time, esp if Norton isn't doin it)(also in the System Tools menu).
Over here RAM is gettin cheaper all the time.
When I get a new computer I max out the RAM before I even turn it on.
I know alota people don't like Norton but I've used em since the DOS dayz and I've stuck with em. They're gettin better all the time and have kept me virus and pretty much trouble free so I'm satisfied.

Not sure what norton I have. Seems to hinder me more than help me. If I turn it off my PC goes faster. But it still doesnt help my vid problem.

Looks like Im going shopping after work today. Ima pick up some RAM and see how much that MS essentials thing is.

Ive had another person tell me that System Mechanic is not good for my PC. But it fixed my registry and really sped up my PC. I thought it did a good job.

HRD, it is not your computer, it might be the video itself because I have the same problems in SOME of jaxel's videos, but the rest work fine, so I don't know the real problem but I know it ain't the computer

Its not just Jaxels vids, its everything. Rather its on youtube, or anything.

Heres a thought. My DVD drive (which is the only CD drive I have) doesnt work properly. I can put DVD's in the drive, but when it plays it makes a loud obnoxious noise and the vid is jumping around everywhere. But I CAN put DATA cds in there and install things and such.

But my problem doesnt pertain to JUST DVD's in the drive. Its videos all around. Dumb question but could that have something to do with it?

Is your DVD watchin progam OK?
How would you watch vids if they worked? WMP (Windows Media Playa)?

Norton is awful... its worse than viruses... get rid of it... Get Microsoft Security Essentials.
Ya that's the anti-viral program I have and use.

As for defragging, I use Smart Defrag from IO bit which not only defrags and optimizes regular files but also give the option to scan system files during boot process.

After defragging, I would schedule a disk check for your local hard drive to see if there's any errors.

HRD I have a few solutions.
1.Play me in Pasadena
2.Buy a new computer =/
3.Suicide
4.Marry a blonde cowgirl.

If any of these help let me know

yeah id use windows media player, I also have a few more that seem to have worked fine at the time. I typically dont watch DVD's on my PC, so not having the ability to do so was not an issue, but never really thought about it conflicting with other vids. Maybe my video card is about to go.

Is there a way to test it?

Doesnt the System Mechanic program i used to the defrag thing to? I DO have it scheduled to do disk clean ups once a week during the middle of the night. Is that bad? not good enough? Does the defrag that is with windows do the same thing? or does smartfrag do more?

Im really trying to educate myself, I really appreciate all the help

From what I know Smart Defrag does more than your regular Windows defrag. It defrags and optimizes while windows just defrags, it also scans for system files which can only be scanned during boot process not while Windows is running and I think this is the something that Windows defrag lacks.

I used to use Norton, but it slows the system a lot and doesn't really do a good job of getting rid of viruses. You may wanna try AVG, but if your computer uses a 64bit-OS then don't use AVG since I hear lots of users with 64bit-OS complained about it. I use what Jaxel recommends and it's free.

HRD, if you're watching on youtube then try to find other videos that do not have that problem, if you're playing any videos already saved in your computer, try to convert them to other formats like mp3, mp4, avi, and so. IF that doesn't work, how about making an update to your computer. IF that one doens't work either then I'll get back to you on that one

Got AVG on my old computer at work.
Seems to slow my computer down when it boots up and AVG scans/updates.
Norton's been gettin better at bein faster and takin up less resources.
I DLd this free video card stability tester:
http://download.cnet.com/Video-Card-Stability-Test/3000-18512_4-10418474.html
Note- close all other programs when you run it, the test slowed down my computer.
After you test it for a few minutes (the Start button) you can stop it if there's no errors (it's a nonstop test).
Then try the Benchmark, you get a number (the avg frames per sec (fps), I got a 55) and if you click Extra you can compare to other results they've gotten with people that have the same graphics card (the program will tell you what graphics card you have; it's at the top of the window).
