punishing with iGDR

lets say i wanna check out what moves when blocked give me a free iGDR. i know the iGDR is i15, so about how many frames on block will i need to punish?

Depends on range. Remember iGDR travels some distance, so moves that push you back, or have long range may be punishable up close but not at tip range. If the iGDR has to travel farther, it hits slower than i15 (or i14 I thought?)

Anyway you can always just use the record thingy in practice mode and test moves if you're curious.

Of course you can first check the Frame Data to look which Moves are punishable, or better unsafer than -15.

We once had this on caliburforum i think, you cant really punish a lot -15s with iGDR, which is -15 from Closerange itself. Seems like you loose a Frame, you cant buffer the input, thats the sad Part.

So check every Move in the FDs which is at least -15 and then try to punish, bear in Mind, if you wanna punish a -16 Move with iGDR and do it a bit to slow cause you didnt really "feel" the end of the Blockstun, your IGDR will be blocked and youll get heavily punished. Blocked IGDR always means 70 to 90 Damage depending on your opponent.

yeah... i was just wondering if anyone has any personal expierence punishing moves that give you 15 frames on block. i know punishing moves that are -15 on block would be pretty risky (probably to risky for my playstyle), but i was wondering about how many frames over 15 would be a good idea to shoot for. think maybe -18 on block? i dunno. im just really trying to fit this into my cervy game. thanks.

Your best practice w/Cervy is to punish whiffs. If somebody is just throwing out moves, punish the whiff w/iGDR. Yoshi's 3B, Mitsu's 2K, B, Sophie/Cass 236B, all iGDR punishable

Have we seen anyone that's been able to consistently punish unsafe moves with iGDR in a competitive setting yet? I'm curious to see if anyone will get it down, and I'll be looking for lots of blocked 1b's and FC 2b's after unsafe moves in those matches as well lol.

Most people do, although I'm very excited about getting to punish sophie deathfist with 3b after all the crap I dealt with in SC3 lol.

I dunno I've tried punishing stuff like low sweeps with it, but I fuck up the buffer timing and get some bullshit. If someone can provide really important lows that CAN'T be punished with WS A but can be punished with iGDR, maybe it'll be worth the risk.

It's the kind of thing you're gonna have to practice in matches. No amount of practice mode will prepare you for having to pull this off in a tournament setting. You can still play a highly effective Cervy without this, I believe.

All right, how many of them can you punish with iGDR so far? If I see you doing it consistently I'll concede this whole "too risky for tourney play" business and just start practicing.

What about Algols 11A? Is it punishable from every Range, or just from short Range? Frame Data says -16~-14, which sounds reasonable due to its Range....if there is any Character who can punish you to the death after a blocked iGDR its Algol, nearly 100 Damage^^

I was just throwing that out there because iGDR, in theory at least, is far superior to WS A. Hell, it punishes stuff WS K can't. As for practicality...I think somebody not spending 9/10ths of his waking hours doing school stuff could probably get it down decently.

I think all that time would have to be spent playing actual matches. This strikes me as the kind of thing that all the practice mode in the world can't help you get down consistently. I'll be playing much more frequently come December when I move up north to Buffalo, so I might mess around with it.

There's no arguing that on paper, it's the best low punisher in the game. It's almost as good as SC3 sophie deathfist. But pulling it off consistently? And not missing it when a tournament match is on the line? We'll see.

I think its all a matter of getting into the habit of practicing punishment during casual matches. I've been playing a lot of Yoshi's lately and because of this I've gotten pretty consistent at punishing 3B, FC 3K, DGF K, etc with iGDR.

Oh and in case it hasn't been mentioned lately, mess this up and you're getting normal GDR and punished for free. Have fun.

Millionz FC 3k and DGF K are both WS A punishable, not worth the risk.

ummm how so?

Unless I'm by a wall or the ws A will kill them I'm pretty good with punishing FC 3K and DGF K with iGDR

You know its not beyond thought that there are some people who can consistently punish with iGDR.....

I believe in the way of the iGDR so I'll take the risk of punishing with iGDR. I admit there are times when I screw up and end up with GDR or a different animation; however, I'm the stubborn type so I'll relentlessly punish with iGDR when I have to.
