Robert King's Customs

I've decided to make my own CaS creation thread in an effort to show people the inner workings of my ADD riddled mind and maybe create a niche for myself.

Compliments, critiques, suggestions, and likes are all appreciated and welcomed.

They are quite simple, but there is nothing wrong with that.
But you should mix the sets, for example since you used Talim's Shirt and Belt, you should use something else for the gloves. the 2P if very simple, maybe a hat or a stamp would do some good for the overall design.
It is really not a bad start, and I am sure you will be able to polish your skills in CaS very quickly, so I hope to see more creations next time.
Oh the story is pretty interesting, but take care to not give a God complex to the character, I know when creating a character is hard to make them lose or show any kind of weakness, but making they win all kind turns they somewhat shallow, anyway is not really bad. Keep the good work man.

Nice creations. I really like the coloring on Nene. Kinda reminds me of K-pop girls.
I know some people would call it simple but putting the rainbow pattern on clothes and turning the size all the way up is a design in itself. Try using it on the sports jacket dlc and make the stripes white. That shit is fab. I'd wear it.

Nice and interesting CaS Robert_J_King, but I want to see more...! :)
Okay! I'll try to finish my Originals and then maybe branch out into what everyone else does. Thank you for taking a look <3

The good news is they're cute like anime characters and stuff. The bad news is they need to stand out. If you're going for the flair with simplicity, try some stickers and/or equipment to give more impact.

Lolitas particularly seem to be your thing with Nene, but you also have a thing for flamboyant things too. At the moment you have a good start of where you want to go, but don't be afraid to take it to the next level. Hopefully, Nene can evolve into a cooler Lolita with bright colors if you're up for making her better. You just have to mesh ideas from existing characters like Lili, Eliza, and Viola to really make her pop. Or you can research Lolita fashion and make something like it then turn around and make it a flamboyant lolita.

Jasper and Tiger however come off as fanservice characters. Jasper is like the kitten version of ZWEI, but he falls short of really impressing me. I'm not into those kind of things since I don't find them appealing, but aside from matching white and very small traces of red, he needs a bit more to really demand my attention.

Tiger makes me think of a young yet cute lass who was forced to cosplay for the crowd. That's about all I can get from her.

All in all, keep on sharing.

Since the concepts in question aren't appealing to you personally, doesn't that make your critiques a bit biased?

In regards to Jasper, I find it unfair that you compared him to Zwei. I just wanted a sexy outfit that showed off his assets namely his upper body, plus the unbuttoned leather pants helped too. I feel that you are only saying that because I gave him his (ZWEI'S) 1P. Other than the jacket and pants, they share nothing else in common, I gave him different gauntlets, boots, and a choker/collar. I am unsure where you see the comparison. They have very different physical traits. Is it because they have bare chests, or simply the same jacket and pants?

If Namco didn't cut off the DLC schedule early, he would be wearing Maxi's 1p instead with some added features.

My thoughts of your CAS
Look. Anyone can slap on a herp derp black and red knight with no theme and say "that's the cool", but very few peeps can slap on the same thing but give it a cohesive theme only to get the likes it deserves.

Tiger
is like a lovely lady of anime who was forced to wear sexy outfits to appeal to men for her part time job at an anime convention. It's cute and sexy, but I felt she can be better than that. I'm not sure who she's supposed to be aside from being a sexy kitten lady.

Jasper was compared to ZWEI, because they both remind me of those bishounen men(pretty boys of anime). What he lacks is aside from that, is a bit more detail. He needs an extra color or two to make his outfit pop out more. I would add more suggestions, but I'm leaving it to you to fix him the way you like it.

What I got from Nene seemed to be a lolita copy with a flamboyant yet elegant dress with an anime modern feel. brucege was reminded of a K-pop singer. Those weren't insults. That's how we perceived her. What I'm hoping for is like she'll be a bit more than a flower bud, she'll blossom into a nice flower.

Think of CAS like a paper, the more cohesive and immaculate it looks, the more we can understand what kind of fashion you're trying show. Thus, who is _____ and what's _____'s story? Aesthetically wise.

The ugly truth
The reality is people don't care too much about CAS designs unless it intrigues them. Me however, I showed interest because I thought you wanted honest critique to make your CAS stand out more and they had a nice start. Take it from me, I had to copy a few things from the best CAS artists here because, they make the most noise with their CAS. I'm sure anyone would want their CAS to stand out.

However, people will have their opinions and CAS is a subjective thing. I'm straightforward, but I don't force people to make CAS like mine. The gist of what I'm doing, is trying to get a feel of what hidden potential you're capable of. If you don't like constructive criticism however, then I guess I'll say "that's nice" but offer nothing more.

Um.....let me put it this way. Your characters are, objectively speaking, attractive. Though they are simple, complexity does not equal beauty. It's just that you don't put as much technique (i.e. special equipment, stickers) with your characters as some others do. Advanced CaS artists almost always use at least four stickers and all three special equipment slots for each creation. Seems pretty shallow, but creations can't have personality if don't put your personal touches in them. Otherwise they'll look just like palette swaps of the default equipment. For an in-depth treatise (aka rant) on CaS evaluation, here's a post I made a few months back:
1. Aesthetics - determined by item choice, color coordination, and physical proportions. The 1 + 1 = 2 of CaS. IOW does it look good. Matty was so dominant in this particular field back in the day, that the community began to neglect the other two CaS criteria in favor of random pocket stickers. Not to detract from one of the forum's greatest artists, but many talented people didn't get quite the attention they deserved.

2. Creativity - finding new CaS techniques. Means very little without good aesthetics to support it, but important nonetheless. Art begins from the self. If something is beautiful, who cares where it came from. However, the moment you share your art, it becomes subject to social values. Inventions become property of the inventors. When we see beautiful, but unoriginal art, we respect the art's originator, not the art's conveyor. IOW Sephiroth looks cool, but you didn't make him. Recreations are mostly exercises, but it's still f***ing awesome to see Dante duke it out with Cloud in SCV.

3. Coherence - Unity of purpose. What separates good CaS from great CaS. Every choice must have a reason, and every reason must lead to one theme. The evaluation process goes something like this: What is this CaS's theme? How does each piece contribute to this theme? Does this piece need to be there at all? IOW Sure, a pocket sticker would look cool here, but does that make him more of a knight? Just to clarify, I spam bump-mapped stickers as much as any other bloke. My upcoming OCs for example lol.
Here's an example from my own collection along with the creation notes:
SOULCALIBUR Ⅴ_29.png

2 gourds as hair extensions and 1 bow tie on head. Two red circles placed by view on shirt sockets, one spade sticker placed by axis around collar, and one maxed pocket sticker around waist. Stripe pattern on sleeves blocked off by maxed square stickers. Maxed number one sticker placed by axis over another maxed number one sticker on pants for stripe.
Sure she's a boring old miko, but I used all 8 sticker slots and all 3 special equipment slots.

In short: your creations look great, but they're lacking in technique (which, truthfully, is more important than anything else on these forums).
