Ryona (リョナ), is a Japanese term for a sexual complex where a female character is, usually sexually, attacked or tortured by either a man or another female character(s). The term "ryona" comes from "ryonanī" (リョナニー), a portmanteau of "ryōki" (猟奇, "Seeking the bizarre") and "onanī" (オナニー, masturbation).

Ryona as a fetish revolves around a victim, almost exclusively a humanoid female, being physically assaulted or psychologically abused by an offender. Ryona is also sometimes tied to Vore or Vorarephilia depending on the context. Vore (捕食) is usually associated with creatures that swallow victims (mainly females) whole.

Another form of ryona is Onna Zako (女ザコ, "female cannon-fodder"), which generally means 'weaker' generic female enemies or 'cannon-fodder'. This can be doing the attacking and the receiving as well.

Ryona doesn't quite arouse me because I'm too hesitant yet appalled to watch a favorite video game character of mine get pummeled hard for fap material. On the flip side, watching them being gently attacked/a simple wrestle while they make suggestive noises is a turn on. A simple tackle on them for a moan is enough to get me all flustered, but a brutal neck snap that doesn't kill them would kinda make me cringe.

In general, I don't find this to be the main source of "cancer". To me, it's just those kinky closet preferences for fapping.

I've heard of Ryona before and to me, it's nothing more than some gamer's fantasy of seeing their favorite female character getting hurt for the sake of hearing them moan and groan for pleasure. I'll also have to agree with Pocky, Ryona isn't much a cancer since it's nothing more than someone's preferred fantasy. It should be also noted that there is a male counterpart to Ryona called Gyaku Ryona. Maybe you should look into that also.

I get what the OP is trying to say. I mean, think about SC in general. Think about all the pseudo sexual, or fetishist themes. Has this never really messed with anyone else? Ryona is bizzarre... I had no clue what this was until a few years ago when people asked me about it shortly after I made some Soul Calibur machinima films. Granted I have shot some arguably provacative scenes in some of my films, some people emailed me asking me to produce a high quality ryona film with such and such character which I politely replied that I'm not into that kind of stuff and would never make such a film. I dont understand what subset of people find interesting in repeatedly inflicting damage to a female character repeatedly over and over again. Then again, people will for whatever reason (organic programming/upbringing/surge in endorphin) have oft had even more bizzarre fetishes which I would prefer not dwell upon (or possibly can even concieve).
