Meiji-Era Setsuka

Continuing her East meets West theme, I thought it would make sense to create something symbolically representing the big historic changes that the Meiji era (1868-1912) brought over Japan.

The traditional kimono is torn apart and still worn underneath, her bleeding wounds barely covered by the Navy's blue overcoat, lace and other formerly unknown Western attire. Guns replacing swords by and by, dangling from her hip and abolishing the Samurai caste for good.

For fun, I also threw in some steampunk/karakuri ningyou (Japanese mechanical doll) element visible on her left arm as technology from the West took up steam in Meiji Japan.

Maiko Setsuka

This is an obvious one that I had started early on but was never really satisfied with, as the pre-made Geisha make-up options left a lot to be desired imo. Now finally, I managed to work around the limitations and could even recreate the iconic "mountain-style" way that Maiko paint their necks. Also, I expanded on the Geisha hairstyle base, adding volume and proportions that I like much better and which give it more credibility in-game.

For the kimono, I chose Setsuka's SCIV one, as it has a nicer flow and its shimmer makes it easier to make the fabric look golden metallic. I found a print pattern that would emphasize the festive, rich embroidery with shaded colors and additional petals and on top harmonized very well with the pre-existing texture. I am so happy with the way it turned out!

While I am aware that a Maiko kimono really is much more intricate, with lots and lots of different layers, much longer sleeves and obi (and no giant tits hanging out lol), this one feels right to me (especially compared to the other kimono items offered), also allowing for a glimpse of the mountain-style neck painting.

I hope you like it!

Tsushima is so good.
As if Tenchu and Onimusha had a child together, i love it, already platinum and now looking forward to free dlc this week.
And you recreated the Ghost Armor splendidly :D

Created for the January Design Challenge over on soulcaliburcreations.com, (SC6 Cast dressed in modern attire) here's Winter Chill Setsuka, because even our very own Lady Snowblood deserves to be cosy and chill once in a while! ^_^

Time to post some more creations! Let's start with Setsuka. This first costume is inspired by her SC3 1P costume, but is not a direct recreation. I made the colors much more vibrant - maybe even a little bit TOO vibrant - but there you are. I love the look of that cute kimono over the rest of the outfit. The main downside is that the clothing pieces aren't super creative since it's already using 3 of the main pieces from her clothing set, but oh well, still looks cute.

This next one is a direct recreation of her SC3 2P costume. I know that literally everyone has done this, but it is my time to do this too :) The hardest part was getting the mountains on the pants right, but I did the best I can. I think it's pretty spot-on.

Setsuka as Hibiki Takane (Last Blade 2, Samurai Shodown)

I found the hair quite challenging but like the result. I sacrificed one of her two ponytails in order to maintain her overall silhouette. For the same reason, I chose the shortened jacket instead of the haori as that hid her arms too much. Also, I tried every equipment item I had to recreate her shortened hakama, then eventually settled with a regular length hakama because it still looked best. If you have an idea on how to recreate it, please share!

Cyber-NOH Setsuka

I like how this captures the essence of NOH theatre asthetics, with the small-sized mask visually elongating the silhouette. Also, as with traditional NOH masks, the facial expression slightly changes depending on the camera angle.
I added a variation, but I think I like the plain version a little better.

Setsuka as Baiken from Guilty Gear

I made two variations but opted for the one shown in detail. The other one's cleavage is just the original's, but the rest didn't work as well because of the mode's limitations. I like how from some angles, the kitsune fox motif on Setsuka's SC4 kimono makes a great stand-in for Baiken's mane lol
