i have a simple question: Who else has projectiles in this game?

Since the arguement is around the "bubbles" topic i'll go ahead and say this since i've played with/against Algol

Playing with him, he is pretty stupid. I honestly believe that given in the right hands, we will cause a Major impact with the community. HOWEVER, playing against him isn't TOO bad. but i can see the fustration as well.

This thread and a few others like this is why we shouldn't REALLY have a discussion on this. All people are going to do is bitch and complain on why he should/shouldn't be banned to begin with. But i'm NOT going to take the time to learn this character if he ends up being banned. (yea...i've given him some thought as well.)

But Jaxel, and any other mod that comes across this and reads my post. MAKE A FINAL DESICION DATE AND POST A POLL FOR ONE DAY ONLY!!! HELL MAKE IT EVEN ON ELECTION DAY!!!! ;)

That way...come that day, the US will FINALLY will come up with a solution and people can move on with their lives.....

Are you really suggesting that "stupid and annoying" are reasons enough to ban a character? Seriously? I can think of at least 2 dozen moves that are "annoying" to fight against and none of them are being considered for a ban.



And your point is? That's like trying to ban Sophitia's 236B4 because she's better at punishing whiffs than Kilik. Every character has advantages, this just happens to be Algol's. Should X be banned from using her A+B on the ground because it can by her an extra few seconds in a match?

Sometimes you have to choose between getting hit with Mitsurugi's low moves or getting hit for free damage from his mid moves, at which you will still be at a disadvantage.

Clearly, Mitsurugi should be banned.



...Really? I was under the impression that those infinites were pre-patch. Do you have any videos of these supposed infinites? Besides, if I understand your point correctly, you don't care what Algol uses, as long as he doesn't use bubbles.



So? No one else can break both throws with A+B like the Apprentice, and no one talks about banning him. It's different. So what? If every character played exactly the same, we'd be playing Street Fighter 1. Get used to it.



I remember a time when I first started playing Street Fighter when I was like, 12, when I thought low moves were cheap and never did them. This argument is no less absurd then than it is now.



Every character alters the way SC is played. I can use a long range game with Siegfried against Amy but am forced to play a close range game against Astaroth because his range alters the way I play as Siegfried.


Bottom line: bubbles are different. Until I see video proof that they are game breaking, I remain unconvinced.

@WED: Wow, I kinda feel stupid for that, and not ever noticing it. Anyway, there's one thing that hasn't been mentioned in this thread (I think). Algol's bubbles hit as a special mid. which means you can block them from a high or low guard. There is no inherent mixup from them, you just need to guard and pay attention to Algol instead of the bubble.

@KingAce: Who the fuck is going to stand in the corner like that, and wait for the bubble to reach them? Also, remember that GI's reflect the bubbles, so Algol will eventually suck one down while doing that corner spam.

Edit: As the previous poster just said, that's only possible on one stage anyway. Maybe somebody who doesn't know what they're doing will get caught by that, but then that's their fault for standing in the corner all that time.
 
Ok so after reading all of this stuff I can still state that I see no real reason to ban him nor have I heard a valid reason for truly banning him. I have a friend who knows how to do all the cheesy Algol combos and what not and I have fought some good Algol players as well and it really isn't that bad. I keep hearing this comment of half the roster can't even fight him...but I am not ever hearing why. All I get to see are these combo videos thats basically start with the same launcher. Which I might add can be stoped by plenty of other characters basic pokes. Also wtf is with that last video post above? That was the worst thing you could have showed because not only do most of the stages simply not have walls like that, nobody in there right mind would just sit there and take the shot. his bubbles can be confusing but once you learn the way the move how they can actually come out you should know where they are and what there gonna do. Its not like he can shoot one and control the actual bubble with the 8way system. Actually he has become so predictable to me that when he shoots bubbles I jokingly run into them for shits and giggles. I am not saying he is a bad character, although I think he looks stupid as hell, but he is just another character in the game and he has a life bar just like everyone else and can die when you hit him enough....and if your that worried about where the bubbles are and what not just learn how they move and your will be surprised to how easy it actually is to avoid them. Call me an ass or w/e but when I see people loose to Algol on a constant basis its always that same kind of player. The one who decides that blocking is apparently irrelevant and that GI's don't exist.

Bah I guess I am pretty much done with this silly little post but over all chickenwing has made the most valid point. Weather everyone bans the ugly fuck or not something simply has to be decided and hopefully with completely valid reasons for doing so...

Your probably right, it does require alot of skill for an Algol player to bring an opponent beside or behind a wall .

Nobody in their right mind would strategize and pull this off. Nobody can make this work. I mean it's so hard to imagine seeing that 75% of the stages have walls. The fact that Algol does not have any Push Moves at all does not help as well.

I mean I only did go through his movelist for 10 minutes when you have been playing him longer. I wonder how a new player can take advantage of this information. Oops, i should edit this right now since nobody will ever figure this out and make it work in a match.

Doesn't change the fact that if the opponent happens to end up in the corner, he still has to wait for Algol to setup :6::Ah::+::Bh: from fucking 4-5 character lengths away, close that distance with his top tier movement speed to get in the opponent's face, and then try to land a :3::3::B: or a :4::Ah::+::Bh:. I thought it'd be common sense from simply watching the video, or from the descriptions other users have posted, but this 'infinite' is shit. You're better off going for a wall-combo, or a RO in another stage.
 
People talk about all the other stuff about the bubbles, but what I don't see enough discussion about is that fact that when I try to air control out of the non unblockable bubbles the game says no. Forget about what the combo is, think about how they work because an important property is disabled.

Oh and bubbles making certain moves safe.

Making statements like banning Hilde because she has charge moves and nobody else does is an example of fail. It's not about having unique moves, it's about the uniqueness of the move and its properties (or lack there of). Hilde doesn't have a charge move that lets her throw spears like the guy from Ghouls 'n' Ghosts and let her do it side stepping, multi directional, and with varying speeds. Kilik's stick may be annoying, but he has only one and that's his weapon. He can't move around with an attack on the screen.

Crap, out of Jamba Juice, and there's a lot more work to do.

neorussel's video assumes you are willing to sit there doing nothing for 5 whole seconds or so to let him come all the way across the screen with a bubble behind him. no one in their right mind would just sit there when they can simply step out of the bubble's path and be done with it. or GI, or smack algol, or anything really
 
@Tiamat: Yes, but nobody appears to have come up with a real rebuttal to that, besides "A new player could exploit this against another new player/utter moron"

You parry the bubbles and they fly back at him, limiting HIS space, how is this not penetrating it? AND once you manage to get in, he suffers in close. Get a lead, and the clock works against him. I'm not seeing how this is some ultimate defense.

I haven't fought an Algol yet where I felt that I had no way to get past his defensive bubble turtling. And I'm willing to bet I play against tougher competition than most of the people in this thread that are calling for a ban.
 
It'd be nice if the community could wait until after the next upcoming majors (NEC and SB3) before coming to a decision.
