Soul Calibur V Connection Problems?

This is kinda off topic, sorry... But how do you do Brave Edge with Ezio? I'm trying to get the trophy of beating a character in Legendary Souls with Brave Edge finisher (not Critical Finish).

check the movelist? i'm not too familiar with ezio.

For the trophy you just have to finish the final round using BE. you can just do it on kilik... then quit LS mode.

@DYY
Mine has the same results screen as you except the download speed is 22mega and upload 6mega (I have a half-decent cable connection). OK, I haven't played with the MTU settings as yet and they are those chosen by the PS3. Does making the data packet size smaller help? Anyway, thanks. I'll have a "fiddle" this evening and let you know if I succeed.

^^^ ummm just find out your actual MTU value. But for MTU, I believe you just make it smaller, default is 1500. You can find out your exact MTU value if you read the guide. Today I had a very good soul calibur session as soon as the MTU was tweaked on the ps3. I went from finding one match every 10 mins or so, to finding a match every 2-3 mins. That one setting vastly improved my online. Also before I would only find people on rank matches if I searched 2 bars and above(although during the actual match, the bars were 3-4 bars). I can now search 4 bars+ and actually find people. I can't believe that one setting made such a difference.

Not only that, I was able to connect to my friend from new zealand (I live in the U.S, so hes quite far). Before when we attempted to connect to each other in player match, one of us would would always get kicked. Today I was actually able to connect to him and have a few matches. There was a little bit of lag, but it wasn't too bad. Quite a improvement from not being able to connect at all. We both originally assumed we could not connect to each other due to the distance between us.

I would definitely fiddle with the MTU setting on the ps3 if I were you ;D. Good luck.

Ehh I guess i'm the only person on this thread that started with connection problems... to being able to play scV online?

You've clearly cracked it DYY. I'm looking forward to reporting on my fiddling session this evening ;).

By the way, I don't have problems finding games. That's a non issue for me. My problem is getting kicked off after 30 seconds or so.

I got rid of most of problems by lowering mtu to 1492. That's the default net providers recommend.
Funny thing, if I leave mtu on auto I get speed test correct and no info on IP fragments, but SCV works like shit. On 1492 I don't get speed test and it says it doesn't do ip fragments but SCV works.

For SCV worse is better.

DYY your MTU like most people is also 1492. It came out 1464 because 1464+28 = 1492.
1492 will work the same. It should at least.

^^^ I'm very happy to hear changing the mtu for you worked. Since changing the mtu, I noticed a huge influx of me connecting to B and A ranked players on ranked. Since they have alot of overall online matches in... I would assume their ps3 connection is optimized to have that many matches in. I myself have maybe 200 matches in? That really isn't alot considering the game has been out for 22 days. I do expect it to go up much higher since finding people is soo easy now.

This all sounds like black magic to me.
I've constantly had plenty of games to play but none get further than 30 secs before disconnect.
I ttried changing mtu settings for about 2 hours (provoking fragmentation to see the limit) but it made no difference.
I c annot see why mtu will alter games available, only maybe connection during a game.
I honestly think there is more to this. I hear of players that do nothing then suddenly it works for a few days then stops again.
I feel like someone that has bought a new car that doesn't work and the manufacturer says that my petrol must be wrong so there is nothing they can do..

Did you alter the mtu on the ps3 itself? I didn't have to access anything except ps3 setting. Didn't have to touch of or anything on the pc. Only needed pc to find mtu value.

@DYY : dude ur genius i couldnt get a single ranked match in online now am gettin it alteast occasionally...cause i changed my mtu....nd am able to get matches in global collosso nd on player match also...thx dude...i ve kept my mtu to 1492.....will try lowering nd see how it fares....:)

^^^ glad it worked somewhat for u

Just so I know everyone is on the same page as me

connectadvance006.jpg

Everyone changed this to manual and adjusted the mtu right? That picture should show you what that screen looks like.

DYY, I changed my MTU to 1494, and the game is actually playable online again for me like it was for the first two weeks of its release. Thanks for the MTU advice.

Sure I changed the MTU in the PS3. It's the client device that decides on packet size and the router that has to handle it. I'm glad it's working for some of you (although I fear it may just be coincidence because when I first set DMZ it worked for three games in a row then started its old tricks again).
Anyway, thanks for the feedback and happy gaming.....

By the way, if I do the ping test I get a value of 1472 as the largest packet size.
Add 28 for the headers and what do I get???? 1500
Now where have I seen that number before? ;)

Okay... Here's my connection info. I want to see if I can get some help here too. Although I doubt it will do any good. I'm probably the same as Accordian_Man. What bad luck this is. It's really annoying me... Anyway, here you go:

Obtain IP Address: Succeeded
Internet Connection: Succeeded
PlayStation(R)Network: Succeeded
UPnP: Available
NAT Type: Type 2
Connection Speed (Download)* 290.6 kbps
Connection Speed (Upload)* 369.8 kbps
*Connection speed results are estimates and provided as a reference only.

@Emily
I have the same info except download at around 15 mbps and upload at 2mbps.
You do appear to have a slowish connection but it may just be the PS3 diagnostics. I does appear erratic.
I use www.speedtest.nl for my system speed testing

@Accordian_Man
That's strange, because my modem's ethernet is hooked up to my PS3 and it works perfect for everything else, except of course, SCV. I really lack to see what the problem is on my end.

@ accordian_man

wow... I don't know what to say, I swear... it feels like all connection setting resources have been exhausted. I wonder if there is another setting that can be tweaked =\... the MTU seems to have worked for at least 3 other people. argggg.

@ emily
umm you already mentioned you won't fiddle with the router settings. At the very least... did you change the MTU on your ps3? That is a setting you can directly fiddle with on your ps3... i doubt your mom will get mad if ps3 settings are changed(nor will she know ps3 settings are changed...).

Well, I've changed my MTU to 1472. Hopefully it might work for me. If not, I'll try 1492. But this is such a pain, how this whole thing goes.

I'll cross my fingers to hope it'll work!

@DYY
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGMOMG!!!!!!!! It was working.. But in the second round of my ranked match, it kicked me out. I can't tell if it was me or the other person... But it worked! I was so excited! I hope it will keep working! Will changing my MTU to 1472 affect my other online games? Like Assassin's Creed, Naruto Shippuden Ninja Storm 2, ect...? I hope not. I can always change it back to 1500 I suppose. It's no biggie. But just want to be sure.
