Soulcalibur VI DLC Discussion Thread

I remember Okubo saying Geralt was selected as a guest for being an appropriate character in the SC universe. What sense would it make to say that if they just jump to a fembot anyway?

I suppose you're telling me puppets/Ashlotte are androids? If so that is like saying samurai and Navy Seals are the same thing.

Plenty fantasy games have automated constructs that are magical/spiritual in nature, not technological. That only occurs in games that outright mix the themes completely like Final Fantasy series but that is clearly communicated to the audience from the beginning.

The game may not be historically accurate with the exact dates or whatever. Yes, it is fiction and they will take some liberties in order to make certain characters but there obviously must be a line drawn somewhere. The fact dates are even given at all in the story is enough reason to eliminate technological androids.
/Facepalm.

They chose Geralt because of popularity and being a good fit, but I don't see how him being in the base game suddenly means 2B is deconfirmed.

Uh, "some liberties". No. Soulcalibur isn't historical, it's fantasy, it just happens to be set in the past. When has history ever had golems, mystical ninjas, female warriors literally empowered by the Greek Gods, lizardmen, immortal black men, interdimensional beings, vampires, alchemists that are also dominatrixes, ghost pirates, nordic guys with anime powers, wizards, and two magical swords that decide the fate of the world, on top of mixing anachronisms whenever convenient?

And by androids, I was referring to automatons which basically that. I don't even know how you're trying to argue at this point.

2B makes the most sense if they want to make money.
If Bandai Namco really wants to make money with a guest character then it's gonna have to be Link in a Nintendo Switch version of SoulCalibur VI with his face on the front cover.

Although I made a long post about my analysis of future guest characters in another thread, I honestly would rather have no more guest characters in favor of returning and new characters. Adding another guest character also takes a bit of the spotlight away from Geralt. However, if there is a character I would personally like to see then it would be Strider Hiryu since he is a character that many in the fighting game community are familiar with. If Capcom permits it, it would also be pretty cool to use his weapon for character creation.

Yeah, 2B is such an obscure character that her game only sold 3.5 million copies.
Who cares when the argument comes from who makes the most money, that was my point towards acefrost who was using that argument. It's simple fact that Dante is more popular that 2B and also has a game on the horizon so Dante would make the most sense by a wide margin.

BTW I'm playing devil's advocate here, I'm from the camp that a new guest should be time period appropriate and should not step far out of the technological boundaries of that time period.

I'm not quite sure I get the whole "2B wouldn't fit because she's a robot" thing, tbh.
Like, she's not decked out in futuristic armor nor does she look like a robot in any way. She's got a gothic lolita aesthetic that honestly makes her look more ill-fitting in her own game (when compared to the other characters) than she would in Soulcalibur. Granted if she used that little pod thing of hers, then that'd be weird to see, but the rest of her arsenal consists of weapons that would fit right in in SC, I don't see any issue with her as a guest.

Wait, wtf? Using guests to promote upcoming games is cancer.

The best guest character is a Warframe. Thy've got Void powers, use normal melee weapons and they have the Void linking to Astral Chaos as a perfect excuse:

That's... acutally kinda cool. Won't happen, but a good idea.
As for DLC character talk, if there will be one I'd prefer someone like Ornstein, Artorias, somebody from Samurai/Dynasty/Orochi Warriors or a non-modern looking Final Fantasy character - something along those lines. 2B if she would be without that little flying droid is fine too.
Though perfectly I'd prefer a classic character returning instead of a guest.

Define "good fit" exactly? I would like to know what you think he was talking about when this was stated.

I never said it wasnt fiction and i also said all that is common in fantasy games. There is a difference between technological "automatons" and magical/spiritual "automatons". No, they are not the same thing.

This only covers half the reason she shouldnt be in the game anyway. I played several of these types of games before. The entire appeal of them stems from very fast paced combat with freedom of movement and attack options. Players get access to wide sweeping attacks that cover vast areas in order to clear out clusters of enemies and generally have several offensive choices to accommodate different situations including projectile spam.

Soulcalibur's core system doesnt allow this. Its very restricted movement that centers around a single opponent. Its simple stepping most of the time. There isnt long combos with several hits in succession. Projectile spam is not a thing. Dante was accurately put into MvC because that game has ground/air dashes, long combos, comparable speed, and projectile spam.

Forcing her into this game means it will not be an accurate depiction of 2B. I can guarantee you the flood of demands that wanted her here in the first place will be pissed to see the Soulcalibur version of her. Or do you think we can have Siegfried start running and jumping around like Taki and throwing his sword every other attack? Accurately portraying a character and their abilities is obviously very important and there is no way they can accomplish that with 2B in Soulcalibur's combat system.

Okay, now you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel with that reason. Geralt wasn't made to be in a fighting game either, and they have to rebuild him to fit, but look at that, they did.
