[SPOILERS] Battlestar Galactica is Over!

So I've never seen this series... the new series. Should I honestly start it? It sounds like it ends up as some crazy scientologist or mormon support film or something.

Its a religious movie if you can go through however many seasons of FICTION and then think one thing in it is non fiction because its religion.

Fake shit fake shit fake shit OMG RELIGION!

That show fucking sucks!! Of course the last episode sucked. I watched the first ever episode of that show, fell asleep. Watched the whole second episode, hated it. Watched bits and pieces of a few episodes since, still hate it. Stargate and Outer Limits for life!

Try the miniseries. If you like that, the rest goes down about the same.

Personally, if you're going to watch it, watch it now. It doesn't feel to me like it's something that will hold up well over time.

Really? I disagree. Sure, the series may be dependant on the times (much of the writing is an allegory to 9/11, socialism, economic collapse, etc,), but I think this is the type of series that WILL hold up over time. There is always terrorism, there is always economic collapse, there are always political dissidents. I think 20 years from now, channels will still be playing reruns of this series.

ignoring, and this is a big thing to ignore, the last season and the especially the last episode, it was a great series. the first and third seasons were especially strong.

i would say simply stop watching after the third season though, and to a certain extent just before the season finale for the third season.

btw, this thread was titled "battlestar galactica finale was terrible", i didnt really expect it to have it's name changed. i only made it as a public service for those who didnt already see the finale so they would have a little warning and maybe not spoil and positive memories they had of the series.

It fit his personality in my opinion. He beat himself over the head with a rock to kill himself faster back when he was lying in a ditch on New Caprica. Offing himself kept the humans from doing anything else to him.
Yes, but that was when they still had resurrection. Now he had nothing, but death.

Just a gut feeling I have. I think the downer arcs (New Caprica, Lee and Kara, preggy 6 (Cylons only get pregnant if the baby's completely loved? They'll instantly miscarry if a harsh word is spoken against the mother a mile away? REALLY?), Tigh and Ellen, the ending etc.) will probably overwhelm the good on multiple viewings. Especially in 5-10 years when the SFX will look like crap.

The special effects ALREADY look like crap. I've never though the SFX were good; ever.

it actually reminds me of "lost" in a lot of ways. the creators of lost had some cool ideas and some shocking plot twists for the first season or two, then it started becoming more and more obvious that they didnt really have a whole plot. they had simply been pulling it all out of their asses and there was no way they were going to be able to tie it all up in an intelligent fashion.

Smilingsaint, when was the last time you watched LOST? The show had its problems during season 2 and a little of 3, but the writers have really turned it around. During season 3 they introduced a new character named "Benjamin Linus" that completely changed the show. Now its one of the best shows on TV again. The writers also knew about the problems you stated, so what they did during the past 2 seasons was to pen the entire series from the start. The show's story is completely outlined, and they've already written the end.

As for BSG; when the writers said they didn't know how to end the series, they didn't mean they didn't know where they were going with it. They knew exactly where they were going; what they were saying is that they didn't know how they would actually put it together in a final act. They had an outline, but acheiving their determined goal without upsetting fans is something hard to do. They weren't just "winging it"; they had a plot and they werent pulling it out of their asses.

I think they're ok for the most part right now considering it's a TV series on a network that spends most of its time cranking out movies with titles like "Manosaur". By way of comparison, Babylon 5 actually looks like crap now.

B5 always looked like crap. B5 was running concurrently with DS9... and DS9 looks pretty good even now.

B5 also had like 1/4th the budget of any other sci-fi show.

And B5 is STILL one of the best sci-fi series... ever.

Yes, but that was when they still had resurrection. Now he had nothing, but death.

Yea, but he would probably get killed by the humans anyway, if not tortured, so he just said fuck it and took himself out

b5 had terrible acting but good writing.

jaxel, they were winging it. just watch thier "last frakkin special" where they explain that they didnt know who the final 4 and 5 cylons were going to be. they did not have it all planned out.

Yeah, but that was back when ST was a big property. STNG has a huge budget ($1 million an episode) for the time. DS9 also benefited from that.

B5 had a much smaller budget and was being rendered on Amigas in someone's garage or something like that.
