The AMAZING SC5 Online General Discussion Thread

I have a theme with all my characters, that is "blindfold with a handprint" thing. All my CaS have it. I don't know why, they just do.

So uh.. thanks? hahaha.

Can anyone explain why Ranked is filled to the brim with douchebags? I've probably seen my fair share of hairy dicks, thunder drums, Aeons, Devil Jins, Ezios, and Mitsurugis.

Yo is it true Raphael is worse than Soul Calibur 4 in this game. I won't even buy this game if this is true. I'll just get Uncharted or something. Seriously Raphael was the only character I was looking forward to playing. Or maybe Z.W.E.I.
raphael is bottom tier along with zwei and aeon

I believe it's too early to tell who's bottom tier. However, from personal experience, MrTheGamer...
Raphael is better than IV; but still same problems.
ZWEI is good. People are sleeping on him.
And Aeon, I'm indefinite about him.

I dunno xeph I think they fixed raphs problems from 4 but gave him new problems to deal with.
Zwei is crap. no on is sleeping on him. Ive done the opposite in fact. I played him for awhile. Totally trash once you learn that all his ein moves are total gimmicks

Like you said before Tiers don't really matter unless your a high level player which I am not but I'm working to be one but I want to use my signature character Raphael that I played since Soul Calibur 2 at the arcades when I was a little kid. I might look into ZWEI no one really pays attention to him like Raphael in SC4. Takes you by surprise, the rest of the roster looks boring to me. Ehhh maybe Pat but so many people probably going to be using him he won't be any fun... sigh. yeah I probably won't get this game. I'm just going to get Uncharted 3.

Well, I know a lot about ZWEI'S gimmicks. I agree, they are gimmicks, but it's really all about implications. In theory fighter, you're going to step/duck EIN all the time. In real time battle, ZWEI can be incredibly confusing; EIN can be applied well, and he does decent dmg. I believe he's low tier, but he's not incapable. In fact, no one in this game seems incapable; especially since it is the beginning.

I have a friend who plays ZWEI. He plays him very well, and is my main source to anti-ZWEI. (aside hitting training mode) ZWEI must be compensated with player skill to be used effectively. Same goes for anyone, really. (Refer to Omega using Zasalamel in SCIV)

I agree no ones gonna step/duck ein everytime. But you have to understand its gonna happen ALOT. I was playing woahhzz yesterday as zwei and I launched him for 4(A+B) about %80 of the time and 66A+B %90. after we finished playing he was like "zwei sucks".
but he has way more issues then that
his own mechanic works against him by making his throw mix ups weaker. while Ein is out his B throw does shit damage
no lows
shitty range and the options that do have range really suck.
hes linear and has no damaging step kill

Not true at all. I've only run into three Patroklos users in over 900 matches online(no exaggeration,) and all three of them were members on this site. I've actually started using him like, 4 days ago and he's pretty fun(and if you're really concerned about tiers I believe he's universally considered to be a pretty solid upper-mid, his only real weakness being his lower range and overall inferiority compared to his insufferable sister.) And I also agree with Xeph, not a Raphael user but from what I can tell he is better than he was in SCIV, though obviously not stellar.

I played raph in 4

anyone who says hes better now has no idea what he was like in 4
They nerfed his frames damage and stances....the only thing they gave him is 15 damage step kill...uhhhh cool buff?

I agree. Raphael in SC4 was simple yet effective. Solid character easy to use now he seems slower and speed was a big part of what made him so annoying in 4.

Trust me a lot of people are eventually start using Pat. He's going to be the most popular fighter of the game like Mitsurugi was in 4. Sooner or later everyones going to start playing him the same way and there goes the fun. Just like everyone played Mitsurugi the same exact way in soul calibur 4. I don't want to go there.

Patroklos forces you to work on the basics of soul calibur 5. That's reason right there for people to experiment. Outside of spacing he makes you use all the basics. Movement, guard pressure, mid/low mixup, proper use of frames, mixing up your throws, whiff and block punishment. He's a solid character and has a refreshing lack of gimmicks or trump cards.
