the problem with sc...

I'll have to disagree. As a fan of the series since Soul Edge, SC4 is the game sc3 should have been. Of all fighters it has the most dizzying amount of movement options available. From cancels to stances, you can really confuse your opponent. I can see where you're coming from as far as whining (and yes what ur doing is called whining) about players sticking to signature moves and not making competition challenging, new or exciting.

see, i think the problem with my thread is that some people were under the impression that i was going to be as vague as this.

there are two issues i discussed, and they go hand-in-hand. if you'll notice, very few people haven't actually made too much of a point against the fact that people don't use stepping as much because they know that it isn't as effective as it once was. i've seen a vid of koreans playing in a way that uses step well and i had already seen that vid before. if you notice the thread where that vid is posted in, everyone is up in arms at the way they play. hmm, i wonder if it's because most players don't play that way?

I run into that some online, but thats EVERY fighting game.

1.) i've already said this twice.

2.) i've said that even people in tournaments are guilty of this. this is not an online-only issue.

Signature moves not only give a character their identity, but also establishes their area of expertise (i.e. long range, short range, speed, etc.). Personally, I practice a lot and study the game. -But everyone doesn't think about every little technical aspect of the game. Basically, if you want to form a "league" of all the most advanced SC4 players that count frames and memorized every move, by all means utilize the net and find them, only stick to them and maybe you'll find the challenge you seek. Otherwise don't completely tear down the greatest fighting game to come along in years. Until SF4 comes and dethrones it, SC4 is king. Period.

hmm, there's a few things wrong with this. i'm not tearing down anything (you're one of the many people who are over-exaggerating what i've said. what you're talking about in terms of "expertise" is vague and generic. i mentioned nothing of a "league". also, sf4 is... well, it's sf. it's essentially the same damned concept that's been done for years. hate to burst your bubble, but it's so-so.

-Oh and next time you want to dis a great game like SC4 at least bring in a better comparison than Tekken. That series was sooo revolutionary.....in the early 90s when they invented 3d polygon characters! Tekken hasn't been anything good since Tekken Tag. And ain't it funny how you love Tekken so much over SC4 when Yoshi is sooo much better in SC4? Just a thought.....

i'm confused by a whole lot of things you've said in this last part.

Guys...audience likes flashy games. IMO, SC4 is one of the flashiest games out there, there's people using weapons.

That's nothing compared to someone using a guitar vs. someone using their HAIR, with bright flashes appearing every hit and a hit counter telling you how high your combo is.

Guilty Gear/BlazBlue are flashy. They're fun to watch, the animation kicks ass, and there's special effects up the ass. There's a ton of numbers, a ton of different meters changing all the time, there's cancels etc blah blah OMG IT'S AN OVERLOAD WOOOOO.

Yeah people like flashy games. I was playing with a friend of mine yesterday, and well, he umm "likes" his throws and told me he liked them cause "they are flashy and look cool". I've heard far more ooo's and aaa's over unblockables and gi's than I ever have for side-stepping a move.

The issue here is that we haven't leveled up yet in SC4.
But if you think this series isn't flashy since SC2...watch these.
Both Omega and Magic are DR players, I already posted SC4 vids of both of them.

There's a lot of technical discussions here, and IMO you can't have a "techincal" discussion about problems when comparing to other games. Seriously, they're different fighting systems, and I'm pretty sure that there's fans/haters on both sides. Why pander to any of them? They're not open to changing their minds if they've already picked a side.

To a casual audience, a group of people who don't know any of the underlying mechanics, I'm going to assume that the order would be something like this:
--BB, GG, MVC2, SC4, Tekken, VF5, SF2.

To an audience that understands ALL THE INTRICACIES of whatever game they're watching, it probably goes like this:
--VF5, SF2, Tekken, SC4, BB, MVC2, GG.

Have you even played GG on a high level?
To say that GG is that simple has got to be one of the most ignorant things I have ever seen. Especially since you go and put SF on the other end. What a joke.

wow, i totally missed this, good call doom.

yea, to say that gg is somehow not a deep game comes from someone who is ignorant of the game they speak of.

but sf is only rivaled by vf5?

wow, wtf.

god dammit... just, please, shutup. read the rest of the thread before you make stupid remarks like this.

You should probably just update/rewrite your first post so you no longer get responses like that. On every forum, there are ALWAYS the people who will just read 1 post (ie the topic starting post) and disregard every other post on said topic, regardless of whether or not the topic creator had a change of heart on the topic.

In regards to Ignis' comment: Yeah, ranking GG at the bottom when it comes to complexity is really silly. Specially considering some people consider GG to be TOO deep for it's own good.

i didn't know people like that existed with topics that are, i don't know, 144 posts deep?

Jay you could saved a lot of space just by posting "Talim sucks" instead of going back into the past with how great SC2 is and how nothing will ever be better. And so far I think I have seen EVERY CHARACTER in SC4 win a tournament. BLDave has won a tournament with fucking ROCK and OOF wins with Talim. Let's be serious, is it not that bad.

seong mina D:

Has anybody won a tourney while mainly using Vadar? Also, I'm gonna try and win a tourney with Mi-na too, if I can get out of this damn state.

Yeah, I seriously thought I had a better chance with Rock, but someone beat me to it.

The good thing is that if I do win with Mina, they'll be lots of CFs. Nice and flashy.

I just need to do something about OOF.

What is really surpriseing( i know that is not how you spell it) is that rock won before mina. really? Rock?? I would have been embaressed about my loss and proud of the game at the same time.

Also someone needs to win with vader..... get on that guys...

Don't be so surprised. Rock is a perfectly capable character in the right gamblor's hands. Mina is just bad, though. Not irredeemably bad, but still bad.

To clear something up: If the "Dave winning with Rock" thing is in regards to his winning Biweekly 3 and having "Rock" in his character usage lineup, then you guys are mistaken. Dave used Rock a few times then but never won, but he did win the tourney with different (better) characters.

If he DID win some tourney with Rock, then I haven't heard about it and good for him. But he hasn't won a match yet with Rock that I've seen, and I run the tourneys here. Bless his heart he tries though. :)
