Theory Calibur/Go to DEV/Like This Post Thread

there aren't any "blanket options" raphs pokes do 20-30 dmg while one mistake costs you 70

stepping is good but its not like klik doesnt have answeres to step

33K:B is the one thing in the match up that keeps it from being 10:0. I don't think raph sucks just the match up is retarded and totally in kiliks favor...

In tourney vs a klik main im picking nightmare simple as that

also raphs punish damage is mediocre

Like I said, you can play both us in a Ft5 or Ft10 at Dev and I guarantee we'll win.

I don't play kilik I have self respect... and im not going to dev but if you are ever on EC I guess we can try

Not going to Dev? And you're talking matchups? Did you even read the thread's title?

But seriously, you need to pick up Kilik if you think he's that good, so I can get in that ass with Raph. I used to think Kilik was beastly, too, until I learned more about him. Not, like I've said multiple times at the Chicago gatherings, he's the worst 'best character' in the game.

the thread name was changed ahaha
and I used to play him a bit for anti, even got JF asura down. now I stick to just spamming 66B relentlessly

Just did ANOTHER test, and Raph's 66B beats Kilik's Asura, WR B, and 1B if he tries to do them out of disadvantage. You need to get back to the drawing board with that Raph.

Kilik is trashy.

Sure thing, guy. We'll try to make it over to a Jaxel Dome Tourney one of these days, either way, and, though I won't have Raph down, I'm sure Hawkeye would be down for some games. It shouldn't be too hard for you, though, since two attacks shut down Raph's whole game.

Dont mean to intrude or step on anyone's toes but since when did this thread become the Raph Match-up thread?

Well, IFB starting posting long posts and people got tired of calling him names. I was content to sit back and watch things burn, but then Bubbles posted what I think to be a bit of misinformation (from someone who claims to play Raph, no less), and I just couldn't let that ish slide.

I just played NDK's kilik online. Seems pretty bad for Raph, but not 2:8. Every time I went into prep I got hurt, and when I didn't, well, I blame the lag. That can be remedied by not going into prep, of course. When I kept good spacing (inside 1A range, outside kilik 66B WR B 6AA range) and spammed pokes I was in pretty good shape, though. Only problem is Kilik's pokes are also very good. iFC 3B and WR A can be very detrimental to a Raph trying poke. Up close I wanted to start spamming anything at disadvantage because of NDK's style but it didn't feel right at our connection.

Their poking games are kinda similar actually, with their WR As and WR Bs serving similar purposes and their mid pokes, Raph 3B and Kilik FC 3B differing mainly in how far they push back. Their 22Bs and 66As are also very similar in usage. Kilik's tools seem to be the better version in most cases but Raph has 1A and 236B and Kilik has aB and Asura, though that can easily whiff at the spacing I'm talking about. At this spacing (mid-long range), it's practically a perfectly even matchup. 5:5

Up closer but not quite in 2A range, Kilik dominates Raph with evades that cover most of his options. Kilik's 1B and WR B are very effective against an Asura-safe offense. Other evades like Kilik 4A actually work pretty well too. 2:8

Within 2A range, Raph can sorta do stuff at advantage now without fear of step, but there's still Asura to worry about, and now you're in his command throw range. Not the best place to be in. 4:6

Yeah, I get all my matchup knowledge from online too. You're welcome to the same offer I gave Bubbles for Dev, since he can't come, Signia.

Why does every Raph player seem to think he's a terrible character? Yes he's disadvantaged, but he's a zoning beast, in many ways he reminds me of Sieg and in some ways, he's better.
It's not all doom and gloom dude =P

I no longer think he's terrible, actually my perfomance with him right now is close to mitsurugi's xD
I've been studying many characters recently, especially playing Talim a lot gave me insights on range and spacing strategies. Now, my Raph is untouchable ^____^ (well, except for taki... 22_88A is too much)

As for people picking characters based on whatever. I think it doesnt matter as long as there are people to play against. I'd be happy if more people pick top tier, I dont fear that and I dont feel any contempt for them b/c of it 1) b/c its stupid to hate someone over something so insignificant 2) b/c I'd rather have them play top tier, than suck with low tier and quit/go play WoW instead.
Its a good thing community has a little bit of both - low tier heroes and top tier whores.

And the drama that's born out of it is priceless! you wouldnt want to lose that, would you?

On a serious note, when the game goes PRO (i.e. people get paid and all) that'd be pretty intersting to see which strats people develop. Remember - the bigger they are the harder they fall, top tier maybe cool, but coming to a TOP LEVEL tournament where everybody knows your char inside out... Imagine Thuggish going to a tournament with 10 belial in it xD I bet he'd get another character ready instead of struggling with Amy.
