Shining Sea Dragon
Hello, SC fans. In this thread we will discuss the characters SCV introduced and how can we fans to warm up to them.
It seems that the situation looks pretty bleak for them as they weren't well received and placed terribly low on popular polls. They were all victims of the circumstances that was SCV's rushed development as a result of a tsunami that hit Japan. However, I feel that there is still hope for them. How am I convinced? I was looking up Natsu's performance in Project X Zone 2 for the 3DS. Surprisingly, she was meet with warm reception as she was an entertaining character and had good chemistry with other characters. See what happens when you take the time to give them some character? It's no wonder why some people preferred Nastu over her master, Taki, who to some had little character beyond being "Ms. Sexy-Stotic-Ninja-Badass."
So, after hearing about this, I am motivated to look into how we make the other characters more likable.
Patroklos
He may well be the hardest character to get the fans to warm up to. While none of the new characters got the we're very liked by many of the fans, Patroklos attracted the most vile out of all of them. He was seen as a lame excuse of a hero who remorselessly kills innocent people for no reason. However, he wasn't supposed to be seen that way. Similar to Siegfried, he was supposed to start out as jerk before realizing the error of his ways and righting his wrongs. People who accuse him of being a remorseless killer will overlook the scene in SCV's story mode when he encounters his former employer, Graf Dumas, and finds out that he is Nightmare and the people he was sent to kill were not malfested, but innocent people which causes Pat to have a breakdown once he realized what he has been doing.
Also, I feel that people who look down on Pat and talk about what a great hero Siegfried was would ignore that Siegfried in his youth had committed atrocities that were just as awful, if not worse, than the ones Pat commited. Sieg's crimes include:
Pyrrha
People like to give flack for her whiny behavior in SCV. If you look her backstory, you would learn that this is due to being a victim of circumstances beyond her control in the universe of the story. She was abducted from her family when she was too young to remember them and wound up being taken under the care of other people who would end mysteriously dying with her being blamed for it. It was all part of Tira's plot to manipulate her into becoming the host for Soul Edge. By the end of the story, she learns to stop being a victim and stop accepting everything around her as her fate. It would be interesting to see her grow a spine and stand up to Tira.
Xiba
It's pretty tough to figure out what to do with his character for me. From what I can gather, he is to Kilik what Nastu is to Taki. He was meant to be a fun take on a very serious character archetype. He was criticized for being idiot who spoke of nothing but food. However, there are people who like him, some even more than Kilik, due to finding his personality entertaining. I feel that perhaps he could be given the PXZ 2 Natsu treatment and have a fleshed out character, more material to work with, and have better chemistry with other characters.
Leixia
I have weird feelings towards her. I have desires to flesh her out like the other characters, but how is the challenge. Since people complained that she was too darn similar to Xianghua, I seek of a way to make her an interesting foil to her mother.
Z.W.E.I.
Believe it or not, he is actually one of the better received of the SCV newcomers. He was praised for having a unique fighting style, being quite a badass, and beating up Patroklos in the Story Mode... twice ("zwei" is German for "two", so it's kind of fitting). However, some dislike him for not having much in terms of personality, having a terrible aesthetic design, and having a very out the ordinary fighting style. His fighting is a cross shaped sword with three handles and wolf, named "E.I.N." that is summon from portals. Casual players have complained about how gimmicky, cheap, and out of place it is (some complaints are about he is too magical... for a series that is already loaded with fantasy elements, but that's another conversation for another thread). Competitive players also give him flack for being the arguably the worst character in the game in terms of tourney success, match-ups against other characters, and general effectiveness. Whenever they made a tier-list, they would generally agree that even the series' resident joke character, Dampierre, had him outclassed.
So, what I would do is not only expand on his character, but I would also improve on his fighting style so that wouldn't be bottom-tier garbage while not being game-breaking.
Viola
Most of what I said about Z.W.E.I. can be said said about Viola. One of the few key differencs is that her Orb-based fighting style made her the best character in the game. She might need a few nerfs.

- Falling into a bad crowd, joining a band of thieves.
- Betraying and killing Sir Stefan, a comrade in the mist of the siege on the Ostrheinsburg castle for his sword, Grimblade, thinking it was Sour Edge.
- Accidentally killing his father while ambushing his army. (His father was a commander of the German army. He should have known better.)
