Video Game soundtracks

Elfman has a very unique style to his music. Generally, it only takes me a few seconds of listening to identify something as being composed by him. He is very good.

But we should get back to game OST, heh.

One game I've found myself listening to constantly lately is Culdcept Saga. A very fun game with a good soundtrack.

I hate jlikew00t for making this thread. I'm not gonna get enough sleep tonight.

Evil Zone and Tekken 2, my top 2 fighting game OSTs. Top 5 would include Soul Blade, Marvel vs Capcom, and Guilty Gear X2.

Some Evil Zone stuff. Classic shit right here for those that have played the game before. It's rare as fuck:

The staff roll/credits song is too good:
Sorrow Long Day
Road For Oneself
Dunjia-S
Decision
A Vision
Rough
Dark Passage of the Unknown

Every song in Tekken 2 is godly; here are a few of its tracks:

They're fucking up with T6's OST. They need to go back to their old school roots, like VF5R. VF5Rs OST sounds very similar to VF style of music 10 years ago.

Good good stuff. 8 Different composers, and lots of good tracks. It is personally one of my favorite soundtracks, and one of the best soundtracks to come out for a game in the last few years.

Props to everyone putting up links.

Any chance anyone is able to get a good quality rip of that Thanatos track from the last floor of Tales of the Lost Souls on SC4? Y'know, the track used in the Special Combo video?

Chrono Cross OST needs no introduction as the best soundtrack, definitely in the RPG genre at the very least!

Spuro - I definitely agree with you.

Aside from the Chrono Cross soundtrack,I also enjoyed Parasite Eve 1, DOA,2,3,and U sound track, not feeling #4 very much....
Guilty Gear,XX. Bioshock,Soul Calibur 2 and 4, and some Tekken songs as well. :D

Glad and a little surprised that there's another person here aware of Evil Zone. That game was full of lulz but entertaining.

As much as I enjoy Tekken's current direction with thier music, I'll admit that it lacks much variety and this is why I still enjoy the old works in the series. I agree with Beta in that they should remix their older themes while keeping the same feel those older themes gave off. Since we are posting songs in VG OSTs I figured I'd post some of my own.

I'll admit that I'm an Odin Sphere fanchild. I love the game to death. Won't say it's #1 on my fav PS2 game list but it's in the top 10. It has it's fair share of flaws in terms of gameplay but I still enjoyed the game all the way through. The Story, characters, and music all amplified that enjoyment.

Another game that is in my top 10 fav PS2 game is Dark Cloud 2 aka Dark Chronicle. I can literally play through that game multiple times and enjoy it greatly every single time. It's weird as I wasn't a fan of the first Dark Cloud game, but I ate Dark Cloud 2 up like a fat kid that loves game. The music in that game was also pretty enjoyable.

Dark Cloud 2's soundtrack is very good.

The boss battle is one of the most epic RPG boss battle songs, imo. Although, it's a tad too short.

The intro song is very good, too. First part is the intro song, 2nd part is the battle song:

You can hear a variety of songs here. All good stuff:

Mega Man X5 has one very good song: Volt Kraken's stage:

and some nice Mega Man 9 stuff:

Saved the best MM9 song for last:

Onward to VF5R goodness:

Akira's Stage. Best song in the game, hands down:

Pai's Stage. Music is TOO GOOD:

Forgot whose stage this is, but good music, nonetheless:

El Blaze's Stage. Sick music:

These are just a few. All the other stage music kicks ass. SC and Tekken need to go back to letting each character have their own stage and their own theme song.

Only good song in regular VF5, imo:

Ah yes how could I forget Dark Chronicle, I still remember the Gundorada Workshop music vividly:

The Balance valley music is another memorable song but I can't seem to find it on Youtube. Dark Chronicle's soundtrack is one of the few RPG soundtracks where I can listen to the whole thing without feeling like skipping songs, like Chrono Cross's OST.

Speaking of Chrono Cross....here's that song....

Can pretty much put every song from the CC OST in this thread, but that would just be cluttering it up

Oh, and Dynasty Warriors music gets a special mention, especially DW3:

My Top 5 in no order:

Guild Wars
Granado Espada
Phantasy Star Online
Lufia I
Final Fantasy VII

I'm a video game music nut, and it's a pain choosing just 5. Had a rough time picking between FF7 or Suikoden 2. The song that's stuck in my head right now is the town theme from SNES Soul Blazer

I never said pick 5. Some of you are trapped in cyberbubbles :S

I think FFVII's OST can be wrote off as nostalgia. It has some really nice pieces; and alot of loops that will of course stick in your head...some of it's also not even noticeable. I prefer VIII by a large margin.

I love the music from Parasite Eve, I dont know why just really really like it a lot. Also I really like the music from Xenogears too.

So many good songs in games now a days it's hard to list them all, could go on for a long time.

Though imo Golbez theme from FF4 is almost as epic as the imperial march from star wars.

Yeah, FF8 is really good. Musically, I would have gone with either FF6, FF8, or Tactics in terms of being tops. In terms of music that actually cater to the mood and situation of what was happening in the game however, I thought FF7 did a better job than the ones I listed.

As for the FF soundtracks. They are good, but they are not the bread and butter of all videogame music... I feel bad that American made games get the major shaft from most people. American developers actually go through the effort to get real orchestras to do their music (more often) and American orchestras are actually good.

FFIV is my personal favorite, if we do not include Tactics (since it is not a real FF game without the roman numerals). I know I'm in the minority. I think the general consensus is either FFVIII or FFVI, and both are great, but I liked the feel of FFIV's soundtrack. Kind of like FFV, it was more broad sounding with the constant use of the midi trumpet sound.

FFVII is definitely overrated. Like every game in the series, it has some awesome songs, but in general, I have a hard time remembering a bunch of the songs, and most the songs I remember can coincide with a better FFVIII song anyway.

Anyone heard the music to the Final Fantasy: Distant Worlds CD? I was able to go to one of those special concerts yesterday and got to listen to the Colorado Symphony Orchestra play through 15 or so tunes, it was wonderful.

When did this one come out?
The last one I got was Final Fantasy: More Friends.

It is good to hear American Orchestras play some of those songs. The Japan New Philharmonic blows hard. I really can't remember which Orchestra played More Friends, or for that matter I don't recognize Colorado Orchestra, but I will take your word that it's good.

Edit: I got it. It was good. It had arrangements of arranged songs from earlier albums. It had things from More Friends, 20 02 0220, FFVII Reunion Tracks, and other stuff. The main difference was the orchestra. The balance had a little bit to be desired for some songs, but it was good. I definitely think it is worth looking at.

I got it here, http://forums.ffshrine.org/showthread.php?t=54462&highlight=final+fantasy+distant+worlds
There is pretty much any FF album you could ever want here.
