Well...this is scary...

Raphael-Sorel

[08] Mercenary
Reason for the title, I am notoriously horrible at all things video game related. Honestly, I am one of those players who will press every button on the controller and hope for the best. However, with Soul Calibur, it's very different. I know exactly what I'm doing!

Much to the annoyance of opponents, I only use one character. I have mastered most of Raphael's moves and he is always my top choice fighter. His fighting style is pretty impressive and I run the clock out with him more often than not (another thing that annoys opponents). Also, there are certain evasive maneuvers that, when coupled with aggressive attacks, really get people frustrated. All in all, I like Raphael's longevity in the ring and he makes cool noises even when he takes a hit.

One move of his I have seen done but cannot figure out how to do is apparently a combo move where he rushes the opponent and strikes the "Time to perish!" move (Y on XBox360), then he follows up by leaping into the air and striking the opponent with both heels. It looks really cool and I think it's the one move I have yet to pull off.

Well I, sir , am obliged to hate you seeing as I play Zasalamel, and you have a counter for about everything I do :P. Nonetheless welcome to the forum, go check out the Raphael soul arena and learn some fancy new things!

Also what console are you on? Do you use normal controller/pads/stick? How long have you spent with Raphael?

Welcome!
I think the move you are talking about (jump low kick, low stomp) is K:K from Preparation stance.
check out moves that lead into preparation stance, then do K:K, the ":" means you need to specially time the second K.
(Just frame attack, with the shiny flash effect)

Ask in the Raphael Soul Arena for hints to get the exact timing down.

Hey there, welcome to the forums! I am a moderator here, so if you have any questions about the site and where to go just ask!

That's awesome that you're able to finese better in SoulCalibur. Stories like this remind me just how much I love the game. There is absolutely nothing wrong with sticking to one character. A large majority of top players in ANY fighting game generally stick to one charcter. You not only learn the ins and outs of your character from playing them constantly, but you also learn how to fight against the other characters more effectively. You become connected to that character so much that you just know how to deal with certain situations when they present themself. You're on the right track.

Do you play online mostly? I'm going to guess that you do because you seem to fight against alot of different kinds of opponents. We have a section dedicated to online play here: Online Mode (PSN/XBOX) You can post your good games here, and meet up with other players to set up some matches. It's always a good time.

There may also be an offline scene local to you as well. You can find out about that here: Regional Matchmaking if you don't see a post for your area, feel free to create one and see what turns up!

As for your question on Raphael, I do not play this character myself, but I did ask one of our local veterans what this move you described was, and he told me without hesitation: 66(B), prep K:K

If you are unfamiliar with what that means, please take some time to watch this video here, and it will explain the notations, stance abreviations and other stuff for you: 8Wayrun General Directory and Offline Matchfinder Reception If you have any questions after watching this, just ask in here or PM me.

You can also head over to the Raphael SoulArena and get answers from there as well. You'll probably get much better answers than I can give.

The notation is 6{6B},prep K:K , someone correct me if im wrong, thats what the game says.
So basically run forward a bit, hold down forward run and hit B (Y on Xbox) then when you go into prep. after that, hit K (B on Xbox) then when you see the first K land, hit it again, and it should do the just move. Im no Raph player but thats my experience.

Thanks for the welcome.

RAWR- I'm on XBox360 with what I'm assuming is the standard controller. And I understand your obliged hatred of me because I can't stand Zasalamel. ;) Some of his grapple attacks really make me cringe! I think I've been playing the game for about a month, using no one other than Raphael.

FleshMasher- That's the one!

Another thing I'm wondering; every character seems to have some kind of lightning attack. Does Raphael have one too? If so, I have yet to trigger it.

*Edit: More people posted as I was posting, haha! Thanks again for the welcomes, tips, and pointers. Deciphering the game directions (the 6s and the Bs and Ks and all that stuff) is new to me, so I'm trying to read that stuff without having to look at a translation sheet. That is definitely the move I'm trying to pull though. The "Just" thing is what throws me from understanding the directions. :P

Its called a guard breaker. Lemme look em up for you. Also send me a friend request on XBL names RAWR xNuTzzz
EDIT: Raphael has no moves with guard break properties it looks like. So the answer is no, you don't have one.
EDIT Again: Just frame moves require precisely timed inputs, some can be described like with this particular move, immediately after the first K lands, hit K again.

Online is trash anyways, its fun to mess around with online because theyre so bad. I say that reluctantely because theres noone I can play offline with in Indiana, so im stuck sending mass amounts of friend requests and playing online with people from the forum lol.

Aww, how sad! Oh well. I still have fun with him.

One question I missed there. I have never fought online. I just play the versus mode with friends who come over.

That's pretty awesome that you have friends that come over to play. You may want to be careful with just how good you get. Your friends may stop playing you if you get to be too good! It's happened to some of us here. Do you think they would be interested in joining the site as well? You could all learn together and that would be even more fun.

Enkindu you are such a boss.

Ekindu- Haha! Yeah, I watch for when they're getting really annoyed and change tactics a little. I can be merciful...sometimes. >:)

As for XBox live, it sounds like it would be wicked fun, but my internet connection lags too much to support it. :/

:sc4rap1:You fool:sc4rap1: Sorry, just had to let that nerdgasm out lol. Pocky Yoshi says hello. Pleased to meet you. I like you already. I hope you don't lose that voracious yet inquisitive attitude. Besides, when SCV comes out, you are um.........ahead of your friends in terms of making them not wanna play because of skill lol ^^;. Just don't kill them too much.

Which part of Indiana?

Pocky-Yoshi- Hello right back at you and thanks for the welcome. Hmm...Raphael is destined to be in V, right? Read a Game Informer article on it, but it didn't say if he would be returning or not. If he's not in there, I'm sunk. I just don't like anyone else!

WARUI- He does do a substantial amount of damage with the moves he does have. It's funny because, if he is used properly, he really shocks the players that rely on the heavier, more powerful characters.
