Whats up with holding all these $5 Dollar tour
if you actually care about the money from winning a tournament, i feel sorry for you
There are several games in which you can make a living/almost make a living off of by being good at them and playing extremely well and winning tournaments. If Soul Calibur is a tournament viable game, why not have that? I think every gamer would love it if every multiplayer, vs. game could be like StarCraft is over in Korea. You'd have the people who play the game for fun, and you'd have the people who play the game for money, just like with sports.
At most, having a high pot ensures that the drive to a tournament is worth it. Most people don't feel like driving long hours to fight competent players for a chance to win some money if there's not alot of money.
A high pot also makes sure that trash competitors don't make it into the tournament.
What would be good is if there were several levels of tourney play; a "free" tournament, an "intermediate" tournament, and an "expert" tournament with varying pots. The free tournament would obviously be free. The intermediate tournament could have a low entry fee, and 3 static, pots for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. That way, no one who's at "expert" level could head down to the intermediate for free money, it just wouldn't really be worth it. The expert tournament could have a pot that varies on how many people enter into it, with a fairly high entry free, and it cold be winner-take-all, to ensure more "serious" play.
