Which characters would you have killed off?

So this curse replaces one arm with a mechanical wooden one, and changes his voice, and makes him act like an idiot, and give him the power to spit poison, and fly, and balance on his sword?
Strange curse.

The sword itself is cursed.

Manjitou in general are odd yet chivalrous ninja thieves. One could say a cliche thing that happens is the Yoshi to be "has to lose an arm" since it's a silly ritual. I'm guessing Yoshi the second had to kill the first Yoshi to use his sword. Yoshi the second lost his arm during the dual and had it replaced with a wooden arm.

The fact that Yoshi has an artificial arm could be another way to troll people who will see Yoshimitsu as an ageless warrior that transcends through time via passing the torch to the next Yoshi.

Hence why no one aside from confidants/peeps from Manjitou like Sakon and Ukon know Yoshi a tad bit more than some hero who brings hope to the weak.

Yoshi's voice being the same? No comment. *looks at Viola to Amy*.

The fighting style part makes sense because you have to be proficient at something to be head of Manjitou.

The best thing to do with FGs story is to take it as a grain of salt. The minute you try to make sense of it, another example or two of WTF stuff happens.

The whole point of a cursed sword (or any other inanimate object) is that it curses the user, otherwise whats the point? Whats the significance of a cursed inanimate object if thats not the case? Why un-curse it? Throw it in the bin, destroy it, or put it over there in the corner. Problem solved.
Its not much of a story either way is it? ...and it doesn't involve any other character... at all...

Anyway, i wish i hadn't quoted that because now, my long, initial post that i put so much effort into will go completely un-debated :/

In SC2 Yoshi had to retrieve his sword from Voldo. I wouldn't know how cursed the sword is, but my guess is in SCI Yoshi's regular katana might have been exposed to Soul edge....(a demonic energy that corrupts people and leeches off them) which started a cycle of this.

Thinking about it in Yoshi's perspective, you wouldn't want a bad sword to fall into bad hands.

While this ensures that I'll always see Yoshi in every installment, I pity the guys who become the next Yoshi. Since his story revolves around leading a clan, keeping the sword in check, and saving the weak. This sounds very tragic and silly imho. All of these noble sacrifices to honor the Yoshi the first....

That's gotta get wierd after a while.

*slays foe*
*does cool sword pose*

"I am Yoshimitsu... the 30th..."

*spins into battle like a crazed dreidel*

"Behold! I am Yoshimitsu the seventy-first!"

Enemy: "-_- Really?"

*snippets regarding the story for SCV*

Raphael: Was a vampire due to stabbing Soul Edge in the eye and wounds the original Nightmare gave him(Soul Edge bled into his wounds?), now he's dead. Or a zombie. I'm not certain the people who wrote the story know themselves >.> It's been said quite a few times, his story would appear to pick up after Zwei 'kills' Nightmare. Raphael wakes up in some kinky dungeon Schwarzwind occupies and begins reenacting a Twilight fanfic fighting with the apparently not-dead Zwei over Viola/Amy, who herself is confused as fuck as to what's going on and why after being in her thirties she still has the figure of a loli.

Taki: She ends up giving Natsu Mekkimaru at some point, if the unlock method for the weapon in SCV and Natsu being overwhelmingly described as her successor are any good indicators. Takis role in the story is pretty much done after relinquishing Mekkimaru to Natsu, whom somehow proved herself worthy of wielding it. Or maybe Taki was intended to die and Natsu is forced to carry the burden of harboring both a demon within her and a Soul Edge-tainted sword that is powerful enough to drive Takis own master insane. Anyone capable of doing that is a worthy successor in my book.

Kilik: Xiba is more mysterious than he is. And like you said, much of his relationship with Xiba can be copypasta'd from the Taki/Natsu relationship, except how he's the son of Kilik and Xianghua. I'd imagine that would have some importance, but Kilik doesn't seem to give a damn about his own son as much some little girl who looks like a chick he boned. It's perplexing x.x

Hilde: It seems to me that she has strong, negative ties to Dumas/Nightmare and Dampierre. I was under the impression Dumas basically razed Wolfkrone with the help of weapons given to him by Dampierre(notably the elephants seen in Hildes stage which IIRC are mentioned in Dampierres profile), and she's outright bloodthirsty towards Nightmare this time around(if only she had some in-battle quotes specific to him), while she doesn't seem to be aware of Dampierres role in the fall of her kingdom. Traveling with Schwarzwind now though, she could add additional conflict to the Twilight fanfic with Raphael/ViolAmy/Zwei and spice it up as an additional voice citing 'kill that mofo' as the best course of action. Maybe Siegfried preaches of redemption to calm her down? Haha.

Ivy: Yeah, her place in the story seems pretty shaky. She really doesn't do anything that Kilik, Edge Master, or Zasalamel couldn't. Probably :/

Cervantes: He's an anomaly. "Of this world once more but no longer bound by its rules," I dunno. Would he know how to go back to ye olde Astral Chaos without using magic soul-eating swords now? I'd only hope he has some role in the battle with Algol everything seems to lead towards in SCVs story, maybe as some sort of unwilling aid to the heroic characters. A token evil dude fighting with the heroes might be fun.

Aeon: I was under the impression his story implied he would be highly interested in eating Patroklos and Pyrrha as an attempt to regain more of his...sanity? Self? Well, whatever it is. I don't think he has need or the ability to have a croney acting in his stead at this point, I could imagine him just roaming around looking for more tasty "holy warriors" to eat up.

Mitsurugi: Yeah, he's boring. I can imagine how he would have some pivotal role in stopping Algols generic "I r teh loerd f al tiem an spays" routine, but wow is he uninteresting. GO BACK TO YOUR FARM WHERE YOU BELONG!

Maxi: You forgot the whole mentorship dealie with Leixia, Natsu, and Xiba. Xianghua is too busy being some generals concubine, Natsu is an orphan, and Kilik is just simply a deadbeat dad. So who else is going to be a parental figure to these poor souls? Plus, the army of Astaroths. He still wants vengeance after killing Astaroth twice and he himself died, but being a fighting game where death is cheap...More Astaroths to kill! The pirate thing is moot at this point, I think. He doesn't act a it like a pirate, he may as well either lose that bit of info from his profile or strike up a new rivalry with Cervantes. "Piracy is bad, m'kay. You shouldn't pirate."

Dampierre: He sold Pyrrha into slavery, dealt with Dumas/Nightmare/Raphael to help destroy Wolfkrone, and likely has had some scheming with Tira at some point giving how they both have been exploiting Pyrrha. If anything, he rivals Cervantes as the most evil mofo in the series right now. The difference being that he's less overt about his evil, more clever and deceptive about it. I am left bewildered by his opening line against Nightmare though, especially since he seems to have no hint of fear or even surprise when coming face-to-face with a soul-eating demon that has been the bane of Eurasia for so long :O I don't think he's just putting on a poker face or unaware of who/what he's up against, I think he is sincerely unafraid and unimpressed. And that's kind of scary.

Voldo: Yeah, Dumas/Nightmare servant that wants nothing less than to actually have sex with Soul Edge now. What else could he do other than try and ensure Pyrrha isn't cured of her evilness and maybe help Algol get out of astral chaos? I see no other way for him to achieve his desire.

Algol: Nah, he's the center of the story really. Everything points towards him orchestrating some kooky plot to stop being imaginary and rule the world. Edge Master seems like the only character who's aware of it, I wouldn't put it past Zasalamel or Dampierre knowing either though. It looks to me more like he was responsible for ye olde soul-devouring swords reawakening and he has some agents lurking about trying to help make him real again. Does Dampierre see a potential fortune in serving or possibly overthrowing a god-king? Was Tira promised assimilation in exchange for helping to resurrect Soul Edge? Could this Arahabaki be him possessing Natsu? Is he pulling the strings of Fygul Cestemus? Was he how Cervantes lived after Ivy apparently killed him?

Edge Master: The only one we know is aware of Algols plot and only one actively working to stop him, unless Talim and/or Zasalamel are also acting against him. I think he'd be pretty important in gathering the good guys to stop Algol, really.

tl;dr version: Although still crap by default for being a fighting game story, the story of SC is wildly complex and...stuff.

Ton of info.

You are as funny as hell man, but yeah I agree the Soul Calibur series has been seriously fucked up. We don't have a beginning or an end right now. Oh please don't remind of that twilight nonsense...blah!! Namco better fix this mess or they'll be facing an ocean of disgruntled fans lmao.

a whole lot to read snip

Wandrian, I think you've just read the minds of everyone on this forum. As far as the characters are concerned here's how I see it:

Raphael was once a vampire but now he's undead ghost/apparition still looking for Amy, who is now Viola.

Taki has a successor but people haven't moved on and still want her back in the game.

Kilik is pretty much a deadbeat dad to poor Xiba and to an extent, poor Leixia because he won't pay Xianghua the child support let alone acknowledge either of them because of this whole "I have evil energy but I don't know how to purify it" BS. I know Maxi must be getting tired of having of toting them around but at least he's more of a father to them (and Natsu) than Kilik was. And as for Xianghua, she should just come back to not only find Leixia but to also brutally maim the shit out of him.

Hilde had some potential to have her storyline be told in which she has to fight Dumas/Nightmare/Raphael but instead, the whole story is about Sophitia's kids having their own Greek tragedy played out. I think Hilde got cheated out.

Ivy has pretty much done it all, and yet she's still there...fanservice still pays off.

I would love to see Cervantes as a neutral character, I think him being evil ran its course plus you mentioning Dampierre being slightly evil than him now kinda has potential for Le Bello to be the next villain, sort of like a mind games type character.

Poor Aeon, he's still a lizard and not much has changed. He pretty much got screwed over also, thanks to Sophitia's kids. I bet if he ate both of them or sided with Tira, he would turn human again but with some lizard features.

As much as I love Mitsurugi, I think he's ran his course also. What happens if beats Algol? He won't have anyone left to fight!

Voldo...why are you still here?

Algol is behind all these catastrophes in the story mode, and is controlling Inferno and Sophitia Elysium

Edge Master's okay, I guess.

All in all, this story mode is like one big soap opera with a lot of twists and messed up plots. I think a linear storyline like the one (and it bears mentioning still) MK9 did. Maybe that could clarify everything.

I would cut(not necessarily kill) these characters, at this point:

Cut Astaroth(or actually make something of his story), replace with Bangoo(using a halberd? Frankly, a lot of Astaroth's moves would fit a proper halberd far better than his currebt axe...). Heck, if you want a Fygul Cestemus character, just go the hypnotized/manipulated route with Bangoo(who has actually been their captive). If using a halberd, have him take the few of Seong Mi-Na's moves that do not work with a Bo.

Edgemaster: Cool as he is, he really doesn't have any big ties to the story, and we could settle for Kilik in the Edgemaster role(but give Kilik all the movestyles available).

Elysium: See Edgemaster. One Mimic is quite enough. If we keep Elysium, have Elysium take on a more consistent form(like how Inferno these days is more or less NM).

Patroklos: Only the regular version. Keep the Alpha version.

Pyrrha: Only the Omega version. Make her more like the Regular version(as a post-SE version would likely be), but do have the NM arm influence a new moveset.

Add back:

Yun-Seong. His sword style is not particularly alike anybody else's, and out of the koreans he has the most notable ties to a character with reasons to still chase SE. Perhaps to emphasize the fact that he's older and more rugged, give him a bigger Dao.
See example here: http://ghosthand.org/DSCN0250DaDaoUncut.JPG

Talim: There's literally no reason for her to drop the Sword hunt beyond dying...
To mix her up a bit, make her wield the Cao Ankara(the huge Elbow Blade) together with one of her originals.

Cassandra: Bring her back, have her adopt a ton of Regular Patroklos Moveset along with her own unique moves and a dash of Omega Pyrrha.

Zasalamel: He has so much he can do for the story with his magic, along with the reincarnation thing if you want- and he brings a unique style along.

Undecided: Taki. Don't see a reason to have her usual moveset, with Natsu now around. That said, she is very iconic. Perhaps a changed style?

Added: Give Raphael some of Amy's SCIV moves.

:/

I can no longer view the YBO stream and feel so cheated...

ON-TOPIC:

Kilik has no relation to Leixia, only Xiba. Leixia was born from that general no one cares about.

Cervantes is evil, period. You're not a pirate without being evil. Raping, pillaging, and murdering for the fun of it means evil brah. Doesn't mean he couldn't be forced into a position where he has to work with non-evil folks.

To be fair, he was possessed a ton longer than Siegfried, and Siegfried freely made the choice to become a murderer/bandit.

The only real difference here is that Sieg got snapped out a lot earlier and turned somewhat decent(he's still a bit of a psycho but more of a Calibur Style one). Cervantes, as implied in SB, was really more noble than Siegfried was- he's just so corrupted that even when rid of Soul Edge, he still infects his blade with evil and possesses powers of raising the dead.

Cervantes deserves about as much forgiveness as Siegfried does.

Nah, I doubt that those particular things are going to change. It looks to me like how they write the sequels is take a bit of the endings of everyone in the last game and go from there. Siegfried breaking from from Soul Edge was telegraphed a frickin' mile away because of it, so was just about everything else. Cervantes has absolutely no reason to stop being evil. He was evil before he acquired Soul Edge, all it did was make him a ghost zombie pirate rather than a normal pirate. He doesn't care for anyone but himself, all he wants is more rape and pillage.

In other words, he's a real class act.

Mitsurugi cause I hated every single thing about him since SC2. There. At least I was honest about it.

I always hoped Taki killed him after each installment but no. Now she's gone and I'm stuck with this motherfu...

*Ahem* sorry bout that. My dislike for him runs deep.

Plus, what role DOES he play in the story now? I kinda understand everyone else but his. Is he just fighting Algol now? Is that really the only reason why he's back?

I wish they'd kill him AND his style off... but they'd lose too many customers. Players that think they are good because they play Mitsurugis. .-.
It's sad to say but this is so true. Not dissing on his fans but his over all style is pretty boring in my opinion. As far as bushido styles ago. They really should have kept his other stance because in SCIV, he was so fun to watch.
But eh...
