EVO: Show up for the finals, jerks.

Good going, American EVO crowd. All those boos will surely want the EVO staff to have Soul Calibur again next year.

-1 for booing against a player from your own country too.

lame

+1 No shit man. However, I DO think an international non hilde player and another non hilde player made a strong case that Hilde does NOT dominate SCIV like all of our scrubs go and cry to other forums about. I don't see why SCIV won't be back next year.

But we REALLY need to get a top player to get REAL commentary next year...

Yeah, that's pretty cruel, Nori.

Cha Cha isn't the best player. But as it turns out, you don't have to be an elitist asshole top tier player to be good at commentary. Just be hardcore, know your stuff, and speak clearly... couldn't be more helpful. I thought he did great... I know for a fact that several top players wouldn't be able to articulate that well... it's just a personality thing.

i actually thought cha did pretty good too. much better than aris talking about i wanna butt rape esom.

i think people were actually learning from the questions asked and interested by the game play

They needed someone to bring the hype, and by hype, I mean someone who keeps up with the action. They knew some stuff, but wasn't keeping up with the action.

Seriously. Booing Ceirnian each time he won a round against Malek and cheering Malek on whenever he won a round? And then doing that same shit during Thugish's last set against Malek?

That's a great way to support the EVO finalists that are representing YOU, fuckheads.

Gemini: Obviously commentary could always be better.

But to PUT DOWN another person for volunteering to do something helpful they didn't have to do (which they did fine with) is just being a fucking asshole. Don't encourage it.

That's their problem for continuing to play broken. You can't blame people for being honest about hating how dishonorable that shit is. So fuck you!

Vincent thats the exact message i'm trying to pass on the live report thread that nobody seems to understand!
Thanks for sharing my thoughts!

I don't recall hearing "boos" whenever someone picks MSP in Marvel, Eddie in Guilty Gear, or Chun and/or Yun in 3s.

I guess we should all make it a point to boo someone whenever they play a top character.

No matter what you do and what character(s) you play, you can never make everyone respect you. That is the sad reality. I think the booing was wrong, even if I strongly wanted the hilde players to lose. It is too judgmental and rude I think.

I am happy the Hilde players lost because I don't like the common attitude held by US players that Hilde is nearly unbeatable. It is elitist, pessimistic, and leads to self fulfilling prophecy. I still believe the game is well balanced for the most part (compared to other fighters of course), so I'm glad to see the results match that belief decently.

now we just need to see if Nationals will be revenge of the Hildes...

Besides that ChaCha kept mentioning our community, but continued to fail to mention our WEBSITE... I think he did a good job (besides that he didn't know why RTD never finished the 3 hit launcher on Amy). Hell, he even mentioned soulcalibur.com once, which made no sense to anyone. He didn't even mention 8wayrun.com until I called Serge (who was standing behind him) to remind him to mention it. A 3 hour stent as a commentator, and he didn't mention the website once. The moment he does mention the website, a lot of people had already stopped watching... but we reached 374 online users within a few minutes.

People who thought that booing the doom combo was somehow funny or good for the game, seriously stick with Smash. Fighting games are not for you.

I honestly think the large majority of the boos were coming from the non-SC crowd.

Most of the players there are 2-d players, so 8way movement is already foreign to them. Ringouts? They hate ringouts. The fact that Hilde gets the large majority of her wins from easy ringouts from an insane distance is why they were booing her. That was especially true in rounds where Hilde players were getting dominated, but got a long distance ringout due to one mistake.

That doesn't make sense to me tho that they were crying "cheap" and "broken" when they love Marvel and it's great "balanced" gameplay.

edit:

Cha did a great job of commentating. He's not the top player, but being a top player =/= being a good commentator so that's irrelevant. He does and has, however, compete in this game, so he knows his shit. It sucked that he had to explain everything to the other commentators, but it opened up the opportunity for the many players watching to learn some of the game mechanics and general style of play. We might actually get more players interested and better yet, another Evo spot next year.

I had fun booeing at the Hildes, most of the time they were just setting up for the doom combo and nothing else. They were asking for it!

In the end they just made KDZ's victory against them more impressive.

That's probably because Hilde's shit is worst than all of those mentioned above, or at least considered so by the rest of the community.

You can't blame people for how they feel. The majority of the players that were "booing" aren't even hardcore SC players. Basically, people don't like to see/play/learn broken shit, no matter how much you want to "cover it up", broken shit is broken shit.

I never thought of big events like EVO to be recruitment spots, but rather a showcase to reveal what the game has to offer, and what needs to be fixed. Like Sagat in SF4 for examples, there were enough public complains that capcom officially admitted he is overpowered, and thus likely to be fixed in the future. Since we all know where Namco/soul team stand in terms of balancing the game, we need to do the same.

As far as recruitment goes, pretty graphics, pick up and play, advertisement (/w boobs) is all you need to attract the casual crowd, and guess what, SC has them all. To actually strengthen the community, we need the fighting game crowd, and you only get that by showcasing a balanced and fun gameplay with plenty of depth and diversity. SC4 DOES NOT HAVE THAT RIGHT NOW. As I said, Namco does not care about us, because we mean nothing to them (no profit), so we have to find ways to make them care. IMO, one of the best way to do this is by embarrassing them in front of their core consumers (fighting game fans) in events like EVO, so if they want their game to be considered a "fighting game" at all, they HAVE to put the effort and time to play test the next SC game.

Again, good balanced games attract followers by themselves (look at blazblue), broken shit attract nothing but shit no matter how you sugar coat it. For the good of the soul series, speak up and make them care. I rather have 1000 random people on evo chat saying SC is shit than to have another SC3.

Lolol, as much as I love BlazBlue, I'm not going to deny some of the shit Arakune and nu-13 can do is straight up stupid. Thing is, they are beatable. It's simply an uphill battle. Same situation applies to Hilde.

quoted for truth. at least malek was a stand up dude, mad respectful to the commentators and kid d when he was being interviewed.

I said this in the other thread too, but I'll repeat it here since the same discussion is going on - the doom combo booing brought mad heel heat that brought mad hype to the SC4 top 8. It made the spectators care about the outcome when they wouldn't have otherwise, and I think it's absolutely good for the game.

It's important that the Hildes lost, though. If they had won, then yeah, the booing in the finals would probably have killed SC4 at Evo. But since they lost, it looks like the game's not broken and it looks like the community was really excited about their game.

Well if all we're trying to do is kiss up to the Evo staff (which seems is the main issue this thread is addressing), I'd totally agree with Jer's post. IMO the stuff that happened during the top 8 overall makes SC4 look really good.
