...jaxel is the site admin and, even though he USED TO BE a local TO, he is not and never has pretended to be the "leader" of the community. we never really had one. everyone is acting like the hilde ban was all his evil plan. LOL. sure, he banned her at a couple monthlies as an experiment to see how people reacted. it wasn't until idle put his foot down and said "fuck this hilde/algol are banned at GAMME" and then we agreed to follow the GAMME ruleset for DEV, that the ban became "official". even then, in the case of DEV at least, the ban was enforced for one reason...solidarity among major events.
it is really not fair to point fingers at jaxel for any of it...just because he doesn't do monthlies anymore? maybe he just got tired of it. you guys need to really stop and think about who set up 8wr to preserve the community...who made and integrated the (admittedly kind of pointless but a good try) ranking system...who has thrown more monthlies than all of the TOs in all other regions in the usa COMBINED...who was the pioneer of streaming events online within our community, and also for posting HD vids of all events on youtube. seriously wtf do you guys want? he's not interested anymore...is it too much to ask to just be grateful and STFU? this isn't his obligation. if you guys want to spark up offline communities then by all means do it, but why be upset that some who have already done so are no longer interested?
as far as support for the game goes...here is my honest opinion...if you guys wanna work together and create new monthlies, that is outstanding. sadly, where i am currently, there is only an offline tekken community. i asked them to play calibur and they all said LOL HILDE and refused to touch it. like idle said in so many words...if the result of this thread is a new set of events which lifts them, the damage done to the community will be far worse than any good that could have come.
do a little experiment. go to SRK's IRC channel, or go to the regional matchfinders, or go to some local 2d/tekken community gatherings and ask people why they don't play calibur. odds are you will have the same results as i have..."that game is broken"...try it for yourselves.
it took years for the ban decision to be accepted. run with it. if you plan to make a new NATS and series of qualifiers, there HAS to be a unified rule set. after years of debate and trial and error, we finally have one. you can try and change it, but you will not only fail, but also re-ignite the fires that nearly burned out our community in the first place. i am not being pessimistic, but realistic. don't do this.
CW, if you wish to open up discussion for a new NATS...why not do it in a thread? or why not use the integrated javachat here? you know that you can have private rooms within it, right? taking community issues and plans to an exclusive third party site chat room or over the phone is not a very good way to gain support. nori, nobody is preventing you from forming a committee of sorts to lead the community. my feeling about it is this...and i feel the same way with politics and military...that the people competent to be on such a committee are not willing or do not support it, and that those who are gung-ho and waiting in line are generally not going to do anything in the best interest of us as a whole. by all means, though, try it out. you don't need jaxel or anyone else's approval. what you need to do is just fucking do it. figure out who would be good and push them for it. if it works it works. if it fails it fails.
ok my final word...enough of this "scramble to revive our poor game" crap. the game and community has been around for a long time. last year everyone was saying SC4 would die after EVO, and yet we are still riding the hype of one major and coming up on two others. i, for one, am happy with it. i'm not gonna say that our community is perfect or even particularly healthy but still, it works for me. through 4 games it has worked and i really don't see that changing. good luck to you guys in hyping it up even more. i truly do hope that you can bring in more players. just take care that in "re-establishing" you don't unravel what's already been built. as it stands we have been having great events all year, with more to come. a number of communities still play often. the online community is as healthy as ever. all of this in spite of all our bickering and indecisiveness and the fact that the game is over two years old.
