Best 2d: KOF98UM. 98UM> 02 due to better cast and more diversity in playstyle
Best 3d: VF. Not as hard as lobo makes it out to be.

most overrated: Capcom games.

Arcana Heart 3, seriously. fighting game folks need to give this game a chance if you haven't already.

runner up- Tekken Tag Tournament.

Honestly, I've always loved Gundam Battle Assault 2 for PS1. Yes, it has G-Gundam and Gundam Wing characters; however, I always felt this game was well balanced back in the day (With the exception of Boss Characters of course. :p). I also love Dragon Ball GT Final Bout. My old high school friends and I used to play those games for hours. Hell with Final Bout, we were nasty in that game. It was all about the Meteos in the game thou. :p Sadly, we went our separate ways and I haven't play those competivley since. :\

How about how bad SSF4AE is, and how SF4 vanilla is actually better, and how capcom has released three versions of that game just screw up the balance even worse than the original? Had to mention that.

Vanilla was NOT better unless you played Sagat. I haven't played AE, but SSF4 is very well balanced.

Can anyone explain how these other games on the list work I mean mechanic wise. Because I get that SF4 has combos, but once you learn them what else does it bring to the table.

Combos are not very important in SF4. You can use basic combos and win if you zone your opponent correctly. A lot of mixups in SF4 means inputting commands a few frames later than you would usually.

It's impossible to describe an entire game here, but if I were to draw analogies, I'd say SF4 = ping pong, MvC3 = hockey + football in a minefield, whereas SC4 = joust on american gladiators.

All fighting games are the same, with more or less options, and more or less emphasis on certain aspects of combat.

yeah cause sagat won every tourney and even jwong dropped rufus when he learned how broken sagat is.....owait

also lol at SSF4 being balanced
how can you say a game where everyone is trash except abel and rufus is balanced?

Why would anyone put down Naruto Ultimate Ninja storm 2? That game is so fucking broken its insane, puppet masters are top tier and thats that. The Knj system is broken beyond belief and you get punished for landing combo's oh and you can even combo on hit stun because the Knj system is fucking broken. Its the only game where if you try and punish you get punished. I am appalled that anyone would put that on a list of "Best fighting game".

I like MVC3......

I don't think you've played SSF4.

Sagat was broken because of high damage of his DP and his ultra, and his combos from F+HK. Too easy to zone with him in vanilla. No, Sagat did not win every tournament. Neither did Hilde in those in which she's not banned.

Remember when people, especially people who didn't play those games in tournaments, just stayed at home and mashed it out with their friends, having fun, instead of going on the Internet and over-analyzing every faucet of gameplay just to stay home, mash it out with their friends, and be angry? Yeah, I miss those days.

P.S. That was not aimed at anyone, but, if you were offended in the slightest, perhaps you should check yourself. ^_^

LP, you just nailed the EXACT reason why i quit playing MvC3 after 3 days. i remember when all of my friends were hype to play tekken and calibur, and how many great times we had playing them for hours on end, like every day. then, one day, i started looking shit up online, going to lacal tournaments, and learning frames.

within 6 months none of my friends would play me anymore. they would even stop playing when i showed up. :(

after MvC3 came out some of my friends came over and we had a blast scrub mashing in it. i realized that if i learn the game they will no longer have fun playing me and i will be trading real face to face gaming time with my friends for frustrating, laggy, nerd time with my internet friends, and i am not willing to make that trade.

I'm wating for that game, it looks great! I wonder if you know Melty Blood on ps2 and pc? I love that game and developers of MB has anounced a new 2d fighting game, have you seen it?

Yeah I know about Melty, never played it(a bit late, not to mention I got other fighters on my plate so most likely won't). But I wouldn't mind giving UI a try. Following it for sure.
