Maxi General Discussion

but I'm now included in HRD's Maxi club so it kinda balances out.

woot woot...bow down son!! Just a list of the dedicated Maxi players that rep him proudly. And I figure if new people see it, they will try and contact one of us for help!!

MAXI 4 LIFE SON!!

4B has all its tricks & traps to enforce it, decent range, and tracking on Maxi's strong side. Still... I don't think much of it as a mid-range poke. 2B and 33K fill that niche a bit better. (I'll lay out some reasoning for this if you're interested.)

3Ag is the most reliable way catch weak side movement. It sucks, but it's all we got!

No need to lay reasoning, I agree with 2B and 33K being better mid range pokes. I've abused 2B since the SC2 days, 33K since the SC3 days. Still, I'm not really talking about 4B [G] as just a poke, but as kind of a feint almost.....with the purpose of attacking after again even on block. Sure 4B [G] is unsafe but because of the scare of 4BB some people freeze after the 4B, either waiting to react to the LO move Maxi will do or even GI thinking they'll do 4BB. It's for that reason why using 4B to get into LI mixups works so well, because people freeze at that moment giving you time to shift from 4B into LI.

HRD: My little brother said it's cool if I add you on his account so I'll do that. Whenever you see his account online if he's playing anything other than SC4 it's him. If it's SC4 playing than it's a 99.9% chance it's me, so shoot me an invite. I don't really like online games as practice, but since our connection is a smooth 5 bars it's ok. And yes as you can tell from folks like Kvasir and Hotnikkelz, moves like 33K, 1B, 33A are all must use moves for Maxi. I also love 66K for it's low - frames on block, even though it's not a frame trap like it used to be in SC3.

I couldn't ever find any way to justify its use, but if 44A can be hit confirmed I'll look into it again. Are you sure you are doing it on reaction and not just figuring it out by reading the situation?

I also TRY to use 44AB but like the way you said Kvasir, I'll try to read the situation. I don't think I'm fast enough to see if the 44A part hit and press B. Instead I try to look and see if I evaded something with the 44A backdash/techcrouch and if I did I'll just hit B expecting to either get hit out of 44A or land a CH with 44AB. If they look like they're blocking I'll just 44A and stop. Sometimes like bubbles said, despite 44A being unsafe you can still get away safely because they're expecting the B part to come out.

I was gonna call up Uberleet and ask him to get some offline mirrors with Maxi and try to record them so I can get tips on things I should use more with Maxi. I know right off the bat that people will tell me to use the B+K BBBA JF more but I for the life of me can't get it down. Meanwhile uberleet has that move down to a science. Anyhow I look forward to getting more tips on how to make Maxi even more tricky. This guy might be low tier but at least we can take advantage of anyone who's overlooked how to fight him. That is unless they are using a character with such great offense that they don't need to know how to fight him, lol.

You guys should have recorded that session and put it in Maxi vids, lord knows we need some current ones.

ah shit....that was well more than a year ago!! I figured out I change my maxi style every 3 or 4 months or so. I was just blown away with the frame knowledge he had, and exactly what to do. Which for me at that point I was a "Fight by the seat of my pants" type of maxi player. When he left the score was something like 68-8, of course in his favor. And out of the 8 wins I got, I dont think any one of them were legit, saying that he was trying to show me something or was trying to win by using B+K BBBA JF's only (which he won quite a few of those BTW....Bastard)

Hes good people though. Got me and my wife high as fuck and was real chill and kick back. Id kill to know a fraction of what he knows!!

Oh ok you were talking about that same session from a year ago. Yup that sounds like good old Dave lol! After a while he'll get bored of serious games and just try to do random shit like land a cool combo or something.

one move I dont get the hype behind is 2B+K, that move is teh suck

You mean guaranteed ground damage on a violent KND?? Why does that suck? What is a better guaranteed ground hitting move other than 2B+K,B? A+B[G] is only minimal damage and anything better isn't guaranteed. The only time 2B+K,B was somewhat good was in SC3 when it was a natural combo on a standing opponent and even myself as a Maxi player thought that was a bit extreme. As a matter of fact I'm glad they took made the frames on all stomp moves terrible on standing opponents. Ivy, Maxi etc used to be able to use those stomps as quick low pokes in SC2 but in SC3 they were made with more negative frames on natural hit on standing opponents so they couldn't be abused.

2B+K B is still a NC. It just only works on some characters. It's completely consistent against Amy, Ivy and Zas, and works when facing the front of Sophitia, Cassandra, Taki, Yun and Agol. Uber posted information on using it from side step here.

Still, I'm not really talking about 4B [G] as just a poke, but as kind of a feint almost.....with the purpose of attacking after again even on block.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of variety in 4B follow ups. It doesn't have anyway to force your opponent to guess. So sometimes you need to get creative to milk some damage out of it. I could see empty 4B opening some types of people up, but I'm addicted to my fake psl3/1 LO Bs right now. It would pain me to skip out on my games.

I love 4B PSL 2 BL KK

as for 2B+K you go through a lot of trouble to set it up. for one you have to be super close then you have to step

a lot of "if's" for 30 dmg

as for its use in oki I guess its ok at that after BT B+K ill do it but most of the time i prefer A+Bg orFC 3Ag

Im a little with bubbles on this one. Ill use 2B+K,B after a W! (being that maxi has no bad ass wall combos) and after things like 4B LO B K, But I only use it when its gauranteed damage. I used to be obsessed with trying to get it on CH, but ur only good follow ups are 66B+K, not worth it.

HRD

You don't have to mess with any of the side step setups, and being worried about guessing with it is understandable. But there are situations where this move is very useful.

The best example is when you're up against any of the characters I listed in my last post, and you get your opponent into a no tech knockdown (B+G is the easiest way). The opponent has to get up and block low right away to avoid 2B+K B.

I find 2K is a far better standing low and has a high dmg follow up to keep them from attacking

I love making people hesitate

yay Maxi talk :) Krayzie ole buddy ole pal still repping maxi is nice to see

4B is like sliced bread for me, i've dissected that into atoms when I was playing this game. The merits are undeniable and well known by now. I use every loop and everything from it. OF course LI is one of my favorite shifts. That and the natural transition into RC. A tracking vertical is almost priceless in this game, considering its medium range. Every option is at your disposable with this one, even a fake RO psl3 GI flash -> delayed LO BK.

33K and 33A are staples for me. 2B not too much but i use it, it has like some crazy deceptive range to it. It's shocking at times. I WHORE 33K shamelessly.

I use 2B+K for wakeup almost exclusively, cuz the range at which i try to play makes it a bit cumbersome. I do use 2K stuff a few though.

I am one of the very very few Maxis that use 236A though. Does 40 dmg and kinda tricky to see unless u whore it. What i like about is an instajump that it has. I use it to counter lows like Amy's 3BA and the sorts. Or in situations where i might expect a 2A interrupt. 9K gives better reward but tends to be very flaky at times.

man ive been doing 3B RO A 236k/4(A+B)/6A+B to beat characters with fast highs out and its working so well

the TC on 4(A+B) is so long and the 236K cancels are the sex

I have the uncontrollable habit to whore 3B and FC 3AAA they are maxis only abusable moves imo

11A is completely underrated imo at tip range its super safe. its also good against people like raph or mina. I use it when people expect a 11B and step a lot at range. but by far its best use is getting around bubbles it will hit algol right out of the animation.

another move I like that others don't is 33B. This move saves my ass so many times its unbelievable the CH 33B PSL 3 LO K combo rings out super far and does a ton of damage.
not to mention the 33B NH PSL 1 mind games. on NH ill mostly do LO B after or PSL 1 into LI and do LI (B) if they tech LI (B) is unavoidable it seems like. LI (B) also is safe enough on whiff to g cancel to escape getting punished hard

Hotnikklez: Yeah for some reason I've been playing Maxi again. I think it's because I haven't played against Hates, Alex J, Cedric, or Manta for a long time lol. They all used to rape Maxi, Hates being the main one to make me give him up at the beginning. SC4 is kinda dead here in NorCal, my only comp is NDK and Koompbala and I can still win using Maxi against them, even when NDK uses Kilik lol. But anyway, I've still gotta master the LI bG into RO transition. I wish they would just change the command into something different so I can be positive of what stance I'm going into. And all the moves you listed I also use consistently, except for 236A...I just don't have the balls to risk that haha.

Bubbles: Isn't 33B unsafe? And 11A at tip range works against Algol eh? Too bad I don't have anyone to try that out on.

My trick for the LI cancels is if I want RO I will hold G longer, If I want to go into LI again, I tap G.

33B is hella unsafe. Ill use it for wake up against people who dont know maxi. But thats all its good for IMO

HRD

I like 33B too. Haven't looked into it for a long time, but if my notes can be trusted...

33B - 28 damage. LNC on hit/CH, -2 on block. CF in 10.
BL KK combo on hit for 57 damage.

33bA, RC A, RCC 2B+KB combo for 94 damage on CH.

Options on block.
Guard is -16.
BL B trades with i18 from close range. Difficult to interrupt at tip range.
WL GIs i12-24

it's not terribly unsafe (Especially at tip range). The strong damage, and RO/Wall aspects of the move definitely make that risk seem worthwhile to me.

33B is not unsafe if you pepper in some WL and escape PSLs after because of the knock back of the move, it usually leaves them outside of horizontal range
33B is great WL bait and at tip range BL B is hard to interrupt because of BL Bs weird hitbox

also more underrated ish= random WL shifts its actually pretty hard to react to if people aren't looking for it I don't really use WL as a GI as much as I use it for pressure unless im fighting someone like raph voldo amy or someone else vert heavy
WL K-great for pressure 0 on block most likely the safest option the rest of the stance feels built to enforce this move
WL A-meh I don't use it much but Its good, it just doesn't fit into my style
WL B- fast interrupt great for people who like to try to hit you out of WL K so much damage if you can hit confirm it

some non GI setups I use for WL:
4B WL (works on block or hit decently enough)
3B RO A WL (works on block if you threaten with BL KK enough)
RO B (NH only and if they know to shake) WL
236B WL (only on hit but why ever use 236B? I only use it when my gimped controller gives me the input instead of 33B)
LI (B) WL ( only on block this is great if you are being out guessed post LI situations or getting gimped by GIs)

I don't like 33B much, it has weird hitbox. I gamble it from time to time though. Most fast characters AA punish it

Krayzie: Figured as much :) LI bG to RO is pretty darn easy, it just depend on when u press G. I can't remember right now since it's been more than a year but i think press G before LI B is about to impact = RO.
236A is to be used very sparingly btw.
