Soul Calibur 5 Guest/Bonus/CAS Character Discussion

Honestly I do tend to use my own creations once I'm out of story mode. Right now, I have 49 CAS characters, and one custom Sophitia I use for money in story mode, since my data corrupted itself a month ago. Before that I had all fifty slots used with my own. To give a general idea of what they represent, about 15 are "conversions"- characters from other games, anime, and such. The rest are my own designs, typically I'll make a character and give her two outfits.

A big part of me and my friends' online play is centered around CAS. We'll hold long matches just to show off everyone's newest creations, and even make characters related to characters the others have made, especially the conversions- Gilgamesh vs. Saber (Fate/Stay Night), Rukia vs. Just about the whole cast of Bleach, etc.

So for what it is, and who it's for, the casual players, it works despite all its flaws. But of course, there can never be enough options when it comes to customization, so the more depth they can add to it, the better. Personally I'd like if they make "guest" characters, instead of them being actual characters, make them outfits you can unlock. They already did that in either 2 or 3, for Kos Mos.

Well i feel the issue with options is a lot of the things are just ugly...how many valid face options are there really? And more importantly why the fucking fuck can I not wear the kitty suit with Rock's rhino head?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!

I definately agree about the faces. I wind up only ever using female face 2- 1 has a wierd grin, 3 is only really good for asian characters and the rest just get progressively worse. Would be nice if they had facial shaping and makeup options

I hate the face selection in SC4. SC3 was good. SC4 has as I said, bad BAD choices. Face 1 is too cute, and as the list goes down they get VERY ugly. The options are horrible for both genders. They should just let you toggle the face like they let you do in Elder scrolls oblivion or SD vs RAW. I also hate the males getting better clothing then the females, the famales mainly have dresses and girly crap to ugly and tacky pants styles. And a I've said, they need to make facial hair seperate from the faces.... they need to give you some african american female faces not only anime and asian ones. The hair is also very limited (but in broken destiny you get 1st player outfits too so thats done but still could get better) Whats up with the fake afro? and most of the female hair styles look EXACTLY the same with minor differences...

Weapon wise:
They could atleast make Link, and Spawn's fighting style avilible after they were gone since they have the weapons used in this age... they could even make the apprentice an assassin style. (assassin from SC2 with the apprentace's fighting style but with no force and regular swords.)

Actually I dont have a problem making good outfits out of the female clothes. Its all about color coordination there heh. Of course, more is always welcome. One thing I'd hope for is the ability to recolor the weapon itself.

I dunno, My imgination is more towards, badassing evil-like tastes. I wanted to make a chick wear Rapheal's outfit or Zasalamel's rather then simple dresses. They could do so much more for this mindset if they allowed us to choose our eye colors, scars, face paint, tatoos, etc on females aswell not just males. How can I make evil characters like Tira with cutie-fruity patootie faces, clothing and speech? No eye make up or the voice to show for it? The best feature they could possibly add is a toggle bar to change the faces/hair and clothing physically into any emotion we want rather then preset bullshit.

Thats true. One combo I used in multiple colors for a whole squad of ten fighters is the winged circlet, Goddess shoulders, honor boots, and the dress Xianghua's 2p costume uses. My mains, Azure Sky and Midnyte Sky, are basically that with face 2, princess long hair and different voices but Azure is blue and Midnyte is black and they come across as a good/evil set pretty well.

I like the customization as it has depth. From my speculations, I think one of the aspects that's missing (correct me if I'm wrong) is Facial Shape. The shape of ppl's face's range from oblong, squared, oval, round, triangular etc.

As for the UI (User Interface) it could've been simpler. It's got a ton of options right in your face and you'll be like Wow! where do I even start?

My way of thinking of simpler options is to start off in a tree/road diagram starting with the simplest branch/path that gives you fewer yet simple options that highlights the character and if I'm not satisfied enough or if there's certain aspects I want to tweak further I would go to the next branch/road as more options for that aspect becomes available.

To your taste, okay. But I say costumes need to be Dynasty warrior level, to truly feel the detail. And enough so it won't look so obvious to which is the created character.

MK characters,well they got Kratos in to pull some limbs, by which I mean hype. Stupid GoW games, but actually, while im on the subject;

REPTILE!

But everyone knows Smoke is the best really...

Seriously though, Fighters Megamix, one of the best fighting games ever, had all the characters in the world... Whatever happened to that?

Well if I had to guess what SCV will have for guest characters, (in terms of unique fighting styles, not just a skin) I'd first say that at least one of them would have to be very popular in Western (US) culture. I base that on the obvious Kratos, Star Wars, Spawn, and Link of the past games. Also it would be a smart marketing move that draws in new players.

So that begs the obvious question; "What fictional western character uses some type of bladed weapon, and is instantly recognized/known by a shit ton of gamers?"

That is the 60 dollar (or in Namco's case) the 100+ million dollar question. I do not know the answer, but if you do then maybe you should tell Namco, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to give you 60 dollars for it.

Now I can say for a fact that I do know what I would like to see as a guest character, and that would be Altair or Ezio from Assassin's Creed. Why? Because I said so.

As for any other guest characters, besides the minimum 1 popular western character, I'd say there'll be some guest character affiliated with the Namco franchise. Now I'm willing to bet they'll incorporate a character they already own not only for the ease of copyright, but to promote sales of their other games. So that leaves me to guess either Final Fantasy or Tales of (Vesperia? not sure which particular game). Seeing as Final Fantasy is more popular in the US it seems the more likely choice, although Llyod from Tales of Symphonia was in Soulcalibur legends.

Now personally I greatly prefer Tales of (whatever) over Final Fantasy (pick a number) any day, but that's just me. So for a Namco franchise character I'd like to see Yuri Lowell from Tales of Vesperia. Why? Because he has purple hair, bitch.

my 2E-11 cents

A 'Tales of' character makes sense. I'd love a Samurai Shodown character, but it's nowhere near popular enough...

meh, The Bride from Kill Bill. She doesn't fit into the timeline, but she'd be badass nonetheless

All things considered, I'm surprised that Lloyd has been the only Tales-cameo thus far. After all, if nothing else, they already have Veigue's JP actor on lock as Siegfried. And I'm sure acquiring the likes of any others akin to Stahn, Leon and Yuri would be other good adds.

I'm sure everyone in America has watched the movie where omnimon wipes out Diaboromon... And galantmon vs Beelzamon.
But I think their marketing style probably be for characters appearing in upcomming games.
