Patroklos Pre-Release Discussion

I'm liking Patroklos more after the latest demo. I'll most likely main him unless someone cooler is in the game.

Didn't see too much at EVO that we didn't already see, but I do like that new arcing overhead kick he did. I wonder how effective it'll be, it seemed kinda slow but it might offer some nice opportunities (anti-low, recover crouching?)

That frontflip kick does look awesome, but it won't be useful unless the TJ starts quick enough to jump over 2As at common disadvantages.

We also saw an aGI-attack. The GI doesn't connect but you can clearly see a pink aGI flash on his raised shield before he takes a stab. It's too slow to be used an option select against a mixup between stopping-a-GIable-string-and-attacking and finishing the string, though. Looks to be steppable on reaction to the aGI flash, it's that slow. We'll see if it's worth doing when we see its block safety and damage, and see if the risk/reward compares to just doing a normal GI.

You mean the charged stab had the aGI? I think it might be something you could use to bait or punish an attack, much like the evasive 4AB from Cass in SC4. So far, I don't think Pat's going to have something like SC2 Night's unblockable stomp (236K), but he seems to have a few aces here and there that make him kinda tricky as well as being fairly straight-forward. He has a stylized Cassandra 236AB (or Angel Step AB) and in the Gamespot Ivy fight, the AI Pat used an interesting TC'd horizontal attack, followed by a somewhat delayed horizontal follow-up. There's also that leaping circular attack that he can perform post launcher for a combo. In some videos (name the Gamespot video) you can see some definite block stun from that attack. Whether or not he can follow up from that attack is up in the air, but I think he might have a few options.

In the EVO video, he does that 3 hit attack that ends in a stab that causes crumple, then follows up with what looks like a Brave Edged ground stab followed by an Alexandra flip kick. I'm curious as to how fast that move is and whether or not it could be a solid punisher. I'm sure the string is an NCc, but there might be some ways to inflict some block stun, bait your opponent to try an attack, and hit with a quick move like the above, or punish a high horizontal with 236AB, or a Brave Edged Shield Bash.

As for that kick, it looks like it comes out of 8WR and maybe it can force crouching? If so, probably could QS away from a vertical into the kick, forced crouching into 3B launcher into CE or some kind of mix up post the forced crouch. It'd be interesting to see how he could play with frame advantage. I wonder if he'll have a crouch throw for an added mix up?

wait but in the comic con trailer you heard sophita's voice?
Exactly, so that means she's still alive and may possibly be the new host for Soul Edge.:D

By the way, Patroklos wasn't raised by Cassandra, he was raised by himself, according to his storyline.:D

Yay I hope that means cassandra will be in it too but i'm not sure if they would have 4 characters with swrods and shields.
Don't worry. I'm sure Cassandra will be playable in Soul Calibur 5. Besides, there's nothing wrong from 4 sword and shield wielding characters as long as they have different movesets.:D

His surname is Alexander or something (which I don't understand) That's why...
BTW, I noticed something like 236 in his vid with Zwei... I don't know if he was moving forward, but I noticed something like Angel Step...

I heard both Pyrrha and Patroclus have Angel Step.
And wouldn't it be "Alexandra"? That's Cassie's and Sophie's last name.
