SCV Impressions By Kayane

Kayane has created a thorough write up of her and France's impressions of Soulcalibur V from the invitational session that was recently held in Paris, France. Included in the write are pictures and videos from the event, selected match videos, and detailed impressions of the characters from French players.

Make sure to check her blog for the full rundown. I would also like to thank Namco Bandai for helping to organize this event and to Kayane for creating this write up and gathering this information for us to check out.

Also check out Kayane reading Hisaharu Tago's message to the Soulcalibur Community.

I sincerely hope JG doesn't turn the game into a super-turtle game, but that remains to be seen. Looks like Hilde was def. placed under the Nerf hammer then, would like to see how her game will play out now. Thanks Kayane : )

It sounds like the only thing that could make this game have major issues system-wise is JG.

I'm really hoping Daishi throws the mechanic out, but I know the odds of that happening is slim. It's really unnecessary with the other defensive options in the game.

How is JG turning the game into a turtlefest remain to be seen when there's like 2 million SCV videos on YouTube that show the game being anything but a turtlefest? Am I missing something?

And thanks again to Kayane for this write up.

I don't know if anyone picked up on it, but Saitoh dropped that the demo was only "six months away from the release date". Whether or not this is true, this puts the game on a tentative release date of March/April 2012.

The tentative date is old news. Plus who knows what can happen as games get delayed all the time. All I want is a polished final product regardless of when it comes out early, on time, or later.

i agree with everything that Hisaharu Tago said in his message. Especially about the community being a family and players learning new techniques.

And thankyou kayane for everything you have done!

Thanks for being on top of this stuff, Malice

The thanks really goes to Kayane, Namco, and to the French players for articulating their impressions, uploading videos, etc. I just do what I can for the community because I'm all about the community. We really have some amazing people in our community, and since I started playing, I have been treated like family. If I was playing some other game, I'd be a nobody unless I was a top player winning tournaments.

They said that they didn't really explore JG all that much, but could see it getting easier/easy as the game wore on. Which is exactly my concern. I don't expect issues with JG to pop up when the game comes out initially, I expect it to be an emergent problem that takes a couple weeks to start popping up.

And this is why I can't wait to meet all of you 8wayrunners one day.

Thank you for your messages again !

I think family is a good word. I have played Street Fighter for 2 years and it's totally different.
I do think there is something special about Soul Calibur, that makes the community united like a family, trying our best to make our family bigger.

I'm just hoping this game is good enough to bring me back into the competitive community, it's been 3 years since I've last really played competitive fighters.

The 2012 new games , I'm sure at least 1 will bring me back, SC/VF/KOF look real promising. That's why I'm harping on the things I harp on so much, I want this game to be perfect. It has the potential to be another SC1.

I can see JG going either way. I know that there wasn't a lot of JG seen in the French videos because it's still a new technique that requires specific timing, but who's to say that the timing won't be easy to learn and it'll render useless a handful of offensive options.

Either way, I do recall that Project Soul was willing to patch this game for balance purposes so there's always that security. However, I do feel that it'd be a wasted effort if JG is nerfed after the games release, so I hope that Project Soul will keep working hard on this new system and the fans will have a balanced and refreshing fighting engine.

One thing I have noticed is that guard crushes (if they're still called those, the things that led to CFs in SCIV) happen more frequently. My hope is that this other system will work as a balance to discourage turtling too.

Ughhh I can't wait to get my hands on the demo and confirm for myself the Patroklos impressions of a character that can mid/low mixup, has good throws, oki mixups, a fast dash-in AND a good punisher AND crazy high damage CE combos.

He is looking very promising, with only his weakness being slow speed for his short range, causing him to lack control at any spacing.

Thanks for the info Kayane, i dont know how you do it it must have taken you a lot of time and thought to write that thanks again, if it was me i wouldnt do it im to lazy, and thanks to namco and the french players, loved the vid about tago san message. About the game i have to say that it looks beautiful and its the best ive seen so far in the series, about mechanics well i know theres still a lot of time for the game to be realesed so im going to wait to see what they change, thanks.
