Maxi General Q&A

for some erason i havent been able to post properly. but here we go.

you can do a second ROAK in there
so your combo would be ROAK W! 1B~ROAK w! 4B~LOB~RCAB(BE)~LI(A)
which is good.

the best thing about W! is where you can go. here is a little somthing im in the middle of testing but if people are intereded i can test and post them all up. i have been working of list of moves and whaat they link to and when best to use them (like i said some need testing though)

here we go for you
CH6A_CH1B~ROAK W! 1B~ROAKW!
from there you can
A+B W! CE
A+BG~RCAB(BE)~LIA_LIA(BE)
4B~LOB~RCAB(BE)~LIA_LIA(BE) (can also be done from the A+B W!)
4B~LOBK 2KB (can also be done from the A+B W!)
A+BG~RCAB(BE)~LI PSL2~BLK(BE) (i think this one will work. like i said i havent tested all yet)

A+B will give all options except straight in to RCAB(BE)
anything leaving the RCAB(BE)~LI can PSL2 to BLKK_BLK(BE)

i need to do a lot of testing but i can post up some stuff at some point regarding best use eg
RCAB(BE)~LIA_LIA(BE) = DAMAGE
RCAB(BE)~LI PSL2~BLK(BE) Carry to Wall/Ringout

You sure you can get a 1B ROAK from the CH 6A ROAK? I'm testing this on counter hit against Pyrrah and she always slides under the A from the second ROAK, and would be able to just guard the K. I'm getting CH 6A ROAK W! a+bG RCAB BE LIA BE to connect but the timing is pretty tight.

I'm still a noob so I could just be bad at wall combos :p

man, maxi seems way more confusing than other characters judging by this thread. What's so special about him? I notice most of his moves have a notice at the end like "left inner", "right outer", "lower left", etc. What exactly does that mean?

I can't seem to connect BLK from either RCAB(BE)~LI PSL2 BLK(BE) or 6A+B(BE)~LI PSL2 BLK(BE). I don't know if I'm just too slow coz the low kick whiffs. I can pull it off from right side throw BLK(BE), 3B 6A+B(BE)LI PSL2 BLK(BE) or ROKK_22/88KK 6A+B(BE)LI PSL2 BLK(BE).

I'm getting CH 6A ROAK W! a+bG RCAB BE LIA BE to connect but the timing is pretty tight.

Oh yeah A+BgRC works too. I'm not sure on this but I think off of wall splat 4BBRC might do a little more damage.

Yeah, those are Maxi's stances. Go in training mode an you'll see them in the move list.

I did have someone today complaining in a match about how easy Maxi is to use, and I think he's in a way right and wrong. Maxi is really easy to just mash buttons on a controller and do stuff. If you want to learn all of his stances, combos, transitions, and ect., then I think Maxi's actually one of the hardest characters to learn (if not the hardest). That's just my opinion, though.

I spent most of time in IV trying to get good with him; practicing really hard to beat my friend's Amy. It sort of felt like a loosing battle back then because Maxi was really hard to learn and your effort for all that was a pretty low-tier character, and after all that effort I found you just ended up sticking with the easy moves (old 3B ROAK) anyways... Maxi seems like a worthwhile character to bother to learn this time around because he finally does damage and gets rewarded for his efforts and predictions.

Oh. Well nevermind, then. This is the only fighting game I've ever played and I've only owned it for two days. :< I'm having a hard time deciding between learning someone easy and someone I actually want to learn.

It's worth the effort. Don't feel like you have to know every one of his moves and stances and be able to work with them in real-time right away. I spent my first month or so with Maxi just messing around and slowly learning what I'm doing and what the stances are. I was trying to learn Taki and I was too technical with her and because of that I never was able to get good with her. I think if you're starting out and want to get good with someone, then it's better to just play around with them and get a good feel of the character. It's probably also a good idea to learn the mechanics of the game before you bother learning the mechanics of 1 character. (what I mean is learning what high/mid/low means, what a tech crouch is, ect.)

I'm trying to learn four different people at once, with varying results. I started with Leixia, which was surprisingly difficult. I need more power until I learn to be more mobile (my sidestepping is terrible, I block too much. I've spent the last five months playing Dark Souls, that's not a habit that dies easily.)

I picked up Tira and I'm not too bad with her, surprisingly. She was one of the people I really wanted to learn. The mood stances are really difficult to keep track of, though. I'm not used to games like this so I have no prior experience.

Voldo, of course, is my current project. I don't see many of them, but he's just so...what the FUCK...that I had to learn him. Plus after I win I can just pelvic thrust over their dead bodies. I'm working on Voldo now, he's surprisingly not difficult to learn. To master, I'm sure he's a pain. At my level of play, I'm planning on his weirdness to give me an edge.

And Maxi I want to learn because he seems different. I have this problem in games like this where I want to stand out, which usually means gimping myself by playing someone difficult or not usually seen at this level.

I guess I've got my work cut out for me. Practice, practice, and a lot more practice.

maxi is a lot of fun, but he takes time. he has a LOT of stances that you need to not only memorize but be able to recall on demand. not trying to turn you away from the character (the world needs more maxi players!) but that is the reality of the character.

I think that's part of it, though. I think Maxi's one of the most fun characters to use. I also use Nightmare as a second and he sort of shows how boring characters can be. He has a few attacks that are good and very cookie-cutter combos and that's about it. I mostly play him as his playing style is very different from Maxi and it's a nice contrast sometimes.

A lot of Maxi's combos can be cookie-cutter as well, but it's not about just using the same combos over and over like Nightmare is (I've just gotten tired of seeing 44B, NSS A+B 4A+B, especially from IV). With Maxi it's fun to play mind-games with the opponent, go into stances or use a move from a stance that you don't normally use just to mix things up, mess with the opponent, and keep things interesting. (when I'm playing casually. If it's a ranked match a care a little bit more about protecting my rank. The colleseo whatever it's called and player matches are more fun for just messing around)

I can't get rematches or stay in rooms. I'm called a noob everytime simply because I use maxi.
I perfected you 3 times or juggled you with several different combo variations that were all controlled.
Oh well :P

Love the noobs seing a controlwd.maxi saying no skill needed or the guy bitching about ringout from near center of map off of rc ab be
Psl2 k be

lulz.

Just got the game a few days ago so sorry if Im writing stuff down incorrectly..
I've been using only a handful of strings and was wondering if I was on the right track?

A,A,K, [while rising]K
A,A,B,[while rising]K

4+2+B,A,K
4+2+B,A,[delay]K,K

2+A+B, [while on the ground]4+2+K, [while rising]K,K

4+2+K, [while rising] K,K

8,8 or 2,2 K,K,A,A,K,K

4=back
2=down
8=up
2=down
I think, sorry, Im coming from MK9. :P

Most of the [while rising]K,K stuff whiffs if you dont time it completely right. I also use 2+A+B while Im outside A,A or 4+2+B,A range.

Thats all Ive been doing so far. Im not sure how to link in the BE,CE, or even know what most of the letters on the screen mean to be honest, lol. I know a lot of this stuff can be poked out of with the right timing so I try to mix it up by blocking after certain attacks if the player knows what he/she is doing or Ill side-step, etc.. The [while rising] stuff has been keeping people at bay when they try to get up. Thats it for now. Any tips on how to use Maxi or if I should be using different strings let me know.

PS: Im going to buy the guide as soon as I can find it. Ive heard good things?

erm, for diagonal directions it is 1 3 7 9 (4+2 =1)

Note that ws KK 2nd hit is high can be ducked.

1K is disadvantage on hit, so most likely your ws KK will get interrupted by a generic BB and stuff like that.
22_88KK doesn't guarantee the whole of AA RC KK~ personally its either 6A+B or 66B+K

with regards to my earlyier post it is possble taht some of that data is not 100% i am still doing testing on some and some is still theroritcal i dont have a massive time to test.

i am pretty certain RCAB(BE)~LI PSL2~BLK(BE) works it was mentioned in another thread by barry

"CH A+Bg->RC,A,(BE) B->LI,PSL2->BL,K,(BE)K" was waht barry said so it should.

maybe its char dependant though and as for the second 1B ROAK i notied this the other day also but when i was fighting someone it worked 1B~ROAK W! 1B~ROAK W! again this could be char spesific or if could be that the ROAK was Nc and the 1B was blocked. i think if you use same stun in a combo it will reduce the stun time.

so ROAK W! 1B~ROAK W! should work.
